GTA 4 still holds a big memory in my mind. I live in NY, in 2008 I lived in LIC near the CitiBank building which is the LC24 Tower in the game. They got that area kinda correct but just placed areas closer to each other. The building with graffiti seen on 5:16 is the most memorable to me. As a kid I remember walking past that building and I'd admire the graffiti all over it. And to see it in a GTA game was fucking amazing. As of today that building has been torn down. They're replacing the building with some modern apartment building due to the area being populated by more high class citizens. 2008 in general seems so nostalgic to me and video games do have to do with it.

2008 is highlighted as one of the best years in gaming ever. Nothing to stop you playing older games either, unless you wanted to play them in multiplayer when they had just released and had thousands of new players. A lot of positive memories of older games are of a particular moment in history and gaming culture, since many of these games came with new exciting ideas which are seen as nothing special today, from developers copying all the best ideas and sequels generally improving most games and adding more gameplay. Most old games seem incredibly simple to the sprawling huge open worlds and never ending "games as service" model today featuring monthly patches and constant new additions, which is both good if you like endlessly playing, or bad if you feel you are being pressured to play the same game endlessly.

I know I’m gonna get some hate from this but I think we’re living in the start of a bit of a golden age right now, after years of oppression companies are starting to suffer from their greedy business practices and are starting to have to play by our rules, this year may have had a lot of flops but this is the start a of great comeback for gaming I think and we still have many good games from this past year red dead redemption 2, apex, metro exodus, and game communities thriving like rainbow six siege and for honor. I disagree I feel we *could be In an upcoming golden age again with PS5 and Xbox Anaconda and Lockheart ( streaming btw Is arguably In a golden age ). Gaming as It stands Is the absolute worst I've ever seen It atm.. but with the greatest potential!. Ppl aren't losing money despite their greed EA Is just fine , while we're bombarded with remasters not even remakes , cheap Indie filler which they praise , battle royale copycats , bad sequels , longest development times ever In history , less focus on AAA single player games than ever , less RPGs than ever.. which used to be just as big as the FPS genre and my fav. DLC and seasons pass on everything so less complete games at launch while you have to wait for ultimate GOTY editions to feel like a full experience. Less depth/challenge/risk In videogames ( excluding FromSoftware/CDPR). It's catered to casuals more than ever , less technological leaps In game design or visuals with under-powered launch consoles compared to previous gens. I don't mind "casual" stuff the Wii honestly did It right imo because It Innovated and tried new things and that's all I feel we need , Exodus was okay to me , but overall I can only count maybe 5 classics I will remember between 2013 to 2020 , the rest was just "good". I would love to see a whole lot of full on remakes Instead of remasters and revive classic IP that's proven with cult fanbases ( It worked for Fallout which was forgotten ). Golden Age to me was Dreamcast/PS1 era. I hope things change.
@@fawkkyutuu8851 The number of actual new ideas in gaming is at an all time low. The quality and amount of content of individual games we have today is huge, but they are just improvements of what has already been done before. We are still playing the same game ideas that were created and pioneered in the mid 2000's. Apart from maybe VR and streaming, gaming itself is stale and endlessly repeating itself with the same genres and game types. The playerbase is getting tired of playing the same thing, measured in lowered sales on every major release, you can only keep buying and playing the same CoD, GTA and Battle Royale games before you're literally sick of it. I hope indie games once again invents new game ideas or revives dead genres like RTS so there is more variety to games again.
CarJack going a bit further back but what about the Xbox arcade games that came with the original 360 arcade, remember spending so much time on feeding frenzy, boom boom rocket and Texas hold'em

God of war
Hell no
Watching fallout 3 gameplay with that mario galaxy music playing on top made me drop to my knees and weep
I think 2018 was a great year for gaming...
Mohamed Akrouch there isn’t gonna be a good year for gaming from 2013 onwards
I loved almost everyone of these games. Goodness. 2008 was the GOLDEN era of video gaming.
I loved the Xbox 360 indie store with games like castle miner z reply with your favourites
CarJack going a bit further back but what about the Xbox arcade games that came with the original 360 arcade, remember spending so much time on feeding frenzy, boom boom rocket and Texas hold'em
White noise online. Not much to it but great for a good jump scare with 4 players online hehe
White noise that game was the best
Tomb Raider: Underworld, Dead Space, and Soul Calibur 4 were my favorites from 08.
Just because a few good games come out every year it doesn’t mean that ‘every year was the best year for gaming’ all years had their highs and their lows
Buttercup Cxnt you could argue that 2007 for multiplayer is the most iconic, eye opening, and important year that games could ever have. It really kicked off and started online gaming as we know it today and gaming entertainment for youtube
If you don't live with this time. You won't understand the feeling of wait for game to come out and it was good. Now it just a cheap copy of experience with terrible broken thing.
@@campkira Depends on which games you buy. It's your own fault if you keep falling for the same scams, instead of supporting other companies.

Only for God of War, Red Dead, and Spider-man. 2017 > 2018
@@SSJVegeta2012 Not even close. 2018 saw many better titles than 2017.
Also, you left out Farcry 5, Assassin's Creed Odyssey, and Detroit Become Human. Also left out Hitman 2.
That doesn't even consider all the amazing indie games that came out this year, one's that aren't triple A, like Frostpunk.
Other than Telltale games closing, and Epic Games moving almost all their staff to Fortnite BR, 2018 was one or the beat years for gaming I've ever seen.
Wrath of the Lich King was the WoW ever expansion ever created. I still remember the first DK i created and had a lot of fun slaying Scarlet Crusaders
