      I've gotta agree with that! There's still a couple great games here and there, but nothing as timeless as the games that came from those earlier eras!

      I’ve got to agree with this also, but also give credit to the only few new games that still managed to get most of my attention these days:
      The Witcher three wild hunt complete
      Red dead redemption two
      (and if I still had a bad ass, force feedback, racing wheel rig, I would say a set of Corsa and Gran Turismo)

    While 2004 is prob my closest runner up, the undisputed best year in gaming is 1998: Metal Gear Solid, Ocarina of Time, Half Life, Star Craft, Abe's Exodus, Banjo-Kazooie, Crash Bandicoot 3, Spyro, Parasite Eve, Mario Party, Gex: Enter the Gecko (that alone wins it, lol), Tomb Raider 3, Sonic Adventure, MediEvil, Street Fighter Alpha 3, Wario Land 2, Xenogears and so much more. These aren't just outstanding, groundbreaking games, they are games that literally created or pioneered their respective genres and changed the industry as a whole.

    • @Vynsent
      @Vynsent  3 месяца назад +15

      I have to agree! 1998 was a huge moment for me as a gamer, as that was around the time I had gotten my first PlayStation. Unfortunately I was a bit too young to be able to take in metal gear at the time, but it was the beginning of my life long fondness for the series forsure! I may have to cover 1998 in the future 😎 thanks for watching!

      @turismofoegaming8806 3 месяца назад +2

      I have to agree also because metal gear solid completely blew me away but I can’t believe you didn’t list Gran Turismo?! Well I guess that’s because it came out in 1997… I swear I thought it was 98, because I didn’t play it until I was in the eighth grade which was in 98…
      Either way, 1998 to 2004, was just an amazing time in gaming!! But I strongly agree about 1998! But I’ve never played any of the Gex games? Crash bandicoot was fun at first but I wouldn’t really put it on the list…. Xenogears still needs a remake????? But I think everything outside I agree with? At least the games I played-

    • @turismofoegaming8806

    UT and Quake Arena (and that time in general) was when MP shooters hit their stride. Broadband finally becoming widespread was huge. It was so exciting going from single player shooters, which were old hat by then, to playing against other people - what a concept MP was when you had lived in an insular, solitary world for your whole life to suddenly having a portal into a war party right in your own bedroom. That transition only happens once and it's over, never again, until a radically new thing comes along like transporters or holodecks or some shit and probably won't see that in our lifetimes. That and Napster, it was a mind-blowing good time and most of the crappy shit from social networking and echo chambering hadn't hit yet.

    So true! Many techniques and concepts that are mass produced today, were JUST being created at the time. Everything felt fresh and advanced. It was a creative time for the artists and the customers received the benefits.
    Now that technique and concepts have been perfected, I think what modern games need to truly focus on is story telling. Else, every new game will feel like a clone of the other.

    • @Vynsent
      @Vynsent  2 месяца назад +1

      Absolutely! They gotta get more focused on the immersion and narrative, more so than a visual spectacle. We still get great games, but they don't provide that same feeling like these old ones do!

    I think the thing I miss the most about the late 90s and early to mid 2000s gaming scene was just how varied the market was when it came to game genres. The 6th generation of console gaming which was PS2, Xbox, and Gamecube feels like it was the last time the public gaming atmosphere was still experimental and open to showcasing all kinds of different games from various genres before the FPS oversaturation boom took over in the late 2000s with the arrival of the 7th generation of gaming with the PS3 and Xbox360. Don't get me wrong, there were still some good games that came out around that time but I couldn't help but notice that in comparison to the 5th and 6th generation of 3D gaming, there was not as much variety in genre and it was felt but I think the reason why someone like me noticed this is because I'm not a FPS person, there not my cup of tea and when I look at my game collect, I have far more PS2 games in comparison to my PS3 games and I don't think that's a coincidence 😅
    And artistically, I liked the art direction that was developed during this time as well. They had improved on the graphics of the 5th generation style but were not so advanced that it looked like they were trying to go for super realism, it was that nice perfect balance of good graphics but it still looked like a video game that wasn't trying to look like a realistic film (since they didn't have the technology to do that at the time lol).
    As a fellow gamer approaching "boomer" age as well, it's so surreal thinking back 15-20 years of how the gaming atmosphere used to be like.

    • @Vynsent
      @Vynsent  2 месяца назад +1

      I agree with you 100% And I just recently realized that the hyper-realism in games nowadays is part of the reason they don't appeal to me much anymore. I like a good balance of what the 6th gen visuals had to offer with their Digital yet Realistic appeal. It was much more appeasing to the eyes for me! The atmospheres felt so much more surreal, and even with how detailed games are today, they just don't hit the same! And it's really not just the nostalgia factor, because I've been playing a lot of older games that I missed out on as a kid, and it's still much more enjoyable than most new releases 😁

    • @decadentgamer3108
      @decadentgamer3108 2 месяца назад

      @@Vynsent Oh for sure, it's nice that others can see the perspective in this because a lot of others I talk to IRL when it comes to games, they think the more realistic the game looks, the better which is a notion I vehemently don't agree with but then again, these people do tend to be more "casual" gamers for lack of better word as they tend to really focus on whichever new hot title is out.
      But yeah I've been playing a lot of older PS2 and PS1 games that I missed out on as a kid as well and I have found myself getting lost in the world and enjoying them a lot. One of the last "new" old games I played was Primal from 2003. The gameplay may not have been as slick as Devil May Cry but the overall aesthetic was just so so nice and again, it looked nice but still looked like an obvious video game and that is the quality I miss with modern gaming. But thankfully we have the Indie scene that is sorta keeping this old school approach alive. 😊
