Well done video. Just a suggestion for everyone. When taking the old filter off make sure the filter seal comes with it. Sometimes they seperate and get doubled up when installing a new filter which leads to major leaks.
Yes! I accidentally left the old gasket on oil filter housing one time....never again. Big mess but fortunately, I did not lose enough oil to damage the engine. I would like to know how many quarts and what the torque setting for the drain bolt is.
I was actually in the middle of doing the oil change and out of curiosity I checked what you said and wouldn’t you know it the old seal was right there, thank you my friend you just saved me
I just spent $91 on engine oil change (at an express shop). Synthetic oil. But even if I purchased oil and filter at a parts store, I would have saved about $50. This car is one of the few that actually has an accessible oil filter!! Next time, I will DIY
Nicely done video, it reassured me that I am doing it correctly and using the correct Mobil 1 Oil and Filter. I've now switched to the High Mileage version, and I use the Enhance Performance type (20,000 miles) Filter and replace ever other oil change. I try to change the oil at 7,500 miles or as soon as the notice appears on the display. My 2014 Impala LT now has 190,000 and is still going strong. An oil change is the most important maintenance to perform. By doing it yourself as you have shown one can save $30 - $40 per oil change. Thanks for the video it was clear, clean and simple. GOOD JOB
EXCELLENT video. Not too much talking, no corny jokes, no lame music. 👌🏾 Didn't slack on the details, said it AND showed it... This is too simple to not do myself. I just bought a 2020... And oh yeah sweet color on the ride lol 👌🏾
@@TheCoolSpot Thanks! I appreciate the feedback. I try to make these videos the way I would want to watch them, so no extra fluff. And it’s silver topaz metallic. They only did that color on the 2014 and 2015 Impalas. It’s not everybody’s cup of tea, but I love it!

Great video dude well spoken great pictures great angles and very informative. I'm sure I could have figured it out on my own but I absolutely love to see how someone has done the same task before me. This is basically the only reason why I have RUclips
Hey Scott! You’re early this week! Thanks for checking out the video. It definitely is odd placement for a filter. I was just glad I had enough room to get it out without needing to remove parts.
I have a 2017 Impala 3.6 and to make it easier to change the filter, I removed the plastic shroud that runs along the top of the radiator support which gives a bit more room to work with the filter.....I put that plastic shroud away in my garage and will put it back on whenever comes the day that I trade the car in. I use an oil filter wrench to loosen and snug up the filter.....I do not rely on hand tightening the filter.....I tighten it by hand and then give it another quarter to half turn with the filter wrench to ensure that it will have no chance of loosening while driving. I also let the car cool off before changing the filter as it is located close to the exhaust system which can get very hot.
Great tutorial!! The Impala going back to 2012 has this identical powertrain, so this procedure is the same on the later W-Body Impalas. I also noticed you used "10,000 mile" oil and filter. For the love of all that's holy, PLEASE, PLEASE don't go more than 5000 miles between oil changes on a 3.6 LFX engine!! The timing chain tensioners will prematurely fail and the timing chains will stretch and jump timing if oil changes are routinely neglected. Also DO NOT go by the oil life monitor! Set one of the trip odometers to zero when you change the oil and change it when you near 5000 miles (4000 is even better.) You'll get 200k miles EASY out of this engine if you change the oil often. I also HIGHLY recommend installing a catch can, but that's a story for a different day...
Helpful video. Nice job. My personal preference: use automotive ramps vs. a jack and jack stands. Also, as others have said, after removing an oil filter, always check to see if the filter gasket also came off and wipe down the filter mounting base. I wish GM placed its oil filters in easier to service locations.
Hey great video can you describe where exactly you put your jack stand? I have 2018 model and need to do a brake job soon on it and am worried on the position of the jack and jack stands
Just bought my first vehicle, 2015 LT, engine oil life at 36% as of this recording, needs break fluid as well, honestly doesn’t seem too bad for maintenance
Another stud video my Man!! I notice you have the "Midnight Edition" mostly Black 19" wheels. Did you buy them separate?? I love the look of my Factory 20" rims, but without as much sidewall height, mine does ride fairly firm. Also.....I add a 1/2-cup of Seafoam to my oil about a month before an oil-change. Like you, Mobil-1 only! Same thing with gas. My baby has received ONLY Certified Top-Tier Premium Ethanol-FREE Premium from a Shell or Holiday station. Once a month, I put a 1/3 bottle of SF into a 1/4-full gas-tank. At now 90,000 miles, she runs STRONG! Take care Dude!
You have a very keen eye. I replaced the silver wheels with the black wheels after we bought the car.
