  • This is a three year progression video of me in my small NYC apartment pruning and repotting my "Gingseng" Ficus microcarpa " indoor bonsai. In this video, I did some carving of the ugly potato-like roots to create a nicer looking root base. I learned this carving technique from a Nigel Saunders Gingseng video. An example of him doing this technique can be found here: • Pruning My Ginseng Fic...

    This is what bonsai is all about, getting a small tree to look giant! The tree has amazing fine details that are all the results of a good eye and careful work!

      How to creat de areal root from de branchi?

    • @Cheerok
      @Cheerok 3 года назад +1

      @@ema_losy aerial roots will grow naturally when there is high enough humidity. One technique would be to enclose the tree in a moisture chamber (a plastic bag for example) for some time and they should start growing. In nature they grow during monsoon season.

      @@Cheerok how long do i have to leave the bag? do i have to do it every day?

    • @Cheerok
      @Cheerok 3 года назад +2

      @@Marcus_Aurelius. it depends on the heat influencing the vaporization of the water. I usually leave it closed for 2-3 days. Open it for 1-2 hours (youll see the bark starts to dry out) and then close it again for some days. Get some fresh air in while you are at it. That being said, i do not recommend doing this right after cutting stuff off. The open wounds are like a banquet for rotting bacteria. So decide on your phase : Cut and grow phase or humiditiy phase. Or at least wait till the wounds healed over.
      On a side note, this is based on my environmental factors. It can work differently in your room/environment (Size of the bag and therefore the size of your micro climate).
      An alternative would be to get a greehouse going with high humiditiy (i think 70% plus at least).
      Also : This does only work on trees that favour creating aerial roots. Other trees might die off when theres too much humidity.

    Good to know that you're also a fan of Nigel Saunders, The Bonsai Zone same as me, you deserve a LIKE and a SUBSCRIBE. I will definitely follow your channel now, not just because of what I had just mentioned, but because you have a good eye in creating bonsai IMO.

    Dude, the tree is absolutely awesome. I got my first tree about a year ago and did the first pruning a couple of months back. This video gave me so much inspiration of what I can do with my tree and where I would like it to go. Keep up the great work!

    Hello, i enjoyed watching the video, very informative. I have a question, I bought a Ginseng Figus from Lowe's. it was in a brokn pot so i got a half price off. When i came home I realized that it had no roots. It was infested by gnats. I threw away the soil it was in. Plant looks really healthy but has no roots. so, I have it sitting in a wter until I find some more information on how to keep it alive or what next step to take. Please let me know if anyone knows what to do. Thank you so much!

    True professional work right there with a lot of attention to detail, great work my friend from a greek bonsai maker making his first steps. Could you explain how you achieved these magnificent roots? Some trick with the bag? o.O

    How often do you prune? Seems like twice a year in the video. I’m at the brach structure developing stage and they are so vigorous I find myself pruning a little every few weeks. I’m thinking I need to wait longer no matter how vigorous they are. Usually mid summer is my hard prune, but I keep tinkering and am wondering if that is bad.

    I just got my first ginsing ficus a few weeks ago and potted it into a deeper pot to get a better root base. I hope mine turned out half as amazing as yours. How long did it take to get the new root base on yours.

    Lovely base but isn’t it time to develop finer ramification for the canopy? I don’t know what you are doing but leaf size seems to have increased instead of decreasing. My ficus’ leaves (which are big when I leave it grow unchecked with plenty of water and fertilizer) reduce a lot with pruning and defoliation.

    • @BonsaiByLAN
      @BonsaiByLAN  3 года назад

      Thanks! Not time for ramification yet. I am still concentrating on growing radial roots and thickening primary branches. So I am not worries about leaf size at this time.
