@@sheenawalter8970 Actually it was Questlove. From there she got connected with a touch of Jazz(DJ Jazzy Jeff's label and Jeff brought in 5 producers to craft Who is Jill Scott in the late 90s. The rest is history!!

@@NoQualmsTheArtist Underrated as in 'something/somebody that has not received the merit, recognition they deserved. He's respected more as a DJ but his production development chops and forward thinking attributes are nuts.
He brought in and incubated producers and musicians that worked on Lauryn Hill, Erykah Badu, Common, D'Angelo, Musiq Soulchild, Dwele. That late 90s neo soul movement.

Great episode! FYI, when JJ exclaims "that's scratching," it should be typed as "that's 'Scratchin'" with a capital S as he's referring to the breakbeat staple "Scratchin" by Magic Disco Machine. The record in question is Reuben Howell's "You Made Your Bed." Opposite to JJ's assumption of the track being "Scratchin" with someone singing on it," it's the other way around. "Scratchin" is "You Made Your Bed" with Howell's vox removed released a couple years later on the same label (Motown).

Love that he’s using ableton. MPC 2000xl or ASR is awesome but it’s 2019 don’t be scared of the greatest DAW ever made.

the mark of some great sample material is how much it makes you feel; jazzy Jeff out here looking happy one minute and then the next he lookin mad introspective
