With all due respect to the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Bill Russells of the world (who have even accomplished more than Jordan, Bryant, and James), they don't have what Barkley identifies as the complete all-around basketball talent. What sets Bryant, Jordan, and James apart from the rest is that they can do almost everything on the basketball court, which is why according to Barkley, they're perceived as the most perfect players ever to step foot on the NBA hardwood.
"When I look at Michael, Kobe, LeBron... I don't want to leave anybody else out, because Kareem's (Abdul-Jabbar) in that situation. He's an all-time great. Bill Russell, rest in peace, is an all-time great, but I never looked at him as a guy going to get me 20 points a night. I don't think he was a great offensive player. He's a great winner, rebounder, defender," Barkley said in his appearance on NBA TNT's Stream Room podcast. "But Michael, Kobe, LeBron, those three are the perfect players right there," Barkley added.

Kobe really didn't like being asked that question - he was a good sport about it, probably out of respect for Magic, but you could tell he didn't appreciate him bringing it up and was uncomfortable talking about it.
At this point a 19 year old needs to be humble and respect the greatest laker at that time.
Same thing happened to kareem, a superior wilt criticised a few parts of his game, rebounding mostly. Gave him praise all the time ofcourse but Kareem got butt hurt quickly... like if you can't respect your elders who been there done that, you're just immature. Especially when a guy takes you under his wing.
The air ball game the year prior combined with getting swept by the very same team this year… That must’ve had Kobe fuming 😤

The lakers won literally as soon as phil implented the triangle with shaq as the clear "jordan" of the team, then they won 3 straight.
You forget to add in fixed refereeing.
They weren't disciplined and mature and crumbled under pressure. They had talent but were not playing as a team.
