People love to diminish the Jazz as not a great team and how Jordan played teams in the finals that weren't great, yet they dominated Kobe and shaq who went on to three peat. This jazz team would've been great in any era
This is a very young Kobe Bryant who wasn't nearly as good as he became later and the Lakers has a trash bench outside of Kobe Bryant. LA didn't even look like they had a real gameplan to stop Utah.
Lukas The Jazz beat Olajuwon Drexler Duncan Robinson Shaq Kobe all in the 1998 playoffs ! And nearly bested Jordan Pippen The Jazz could beat great teams because they themselves were championship contenders for many years in the 1990's
sonofaballer96 trash bench ? hahahah not really derek fisher Kobe Bryant/Eddie Jones trading off Elden Campbell Jon Barry those were some good players off the bench.
Karl Malone and the Jazz used to own the Lakers in the late 90s, and yet before he retired, he had to join forces with the Phil Jackson led Lakers, and still couldn't get a ring!
Classic NBA. Shaq was a beast and unstoppable. Kobe was still young and you could see his future greatness. Malone and Stockton doing their thing. Great memories.

@@ponypower8 wasn't a nasty question, just asking your opinion on Del Harris not being able to take them all the way. Read my question again but with a happy friendly inside voice (;
@@hazeykun Okay, understood. Immaturity, chemistry and coaching (not saying the Harris wasn't a good coach, but Phil Jackson is Phil Jackson). It really takes more than talent to win a championship. There are certain crucial intangibles.
Not many didn't get tossed around by Malone back in those days. Like fpsfreak said, Malone was a beast. One of the most powerful players to have played.
I was so depressed watching this as a kid, I wanted to see Jordan vs Bryant so bad!!! I find it so fucked up, that we never got to see Bryant vs Jordan Or Lebron vs Bryant in the finals Or Lebron vs Jordan, Lebron came a year after Jordan was gone
Video evidence of the impact that Phil Jackson had on this team. All of the key parts were already in place. Under Del Harris, the Lakers lacked two major things: A consistent style of play and defensive effort. The Jazz had both. The Spurs had both in 1999...and that's why the Lakers were beaten. They weren't mentally strong enough to win grinding games.
defense wise hes one of the best option. He is big and he is heavy, not on the level of shaq but still the best option. you put other HOF center/pf on shaq, you will get worse results.
+Brandon Tollison Utah didn't win not because of him but because nba is rigged. MJ is a million times. more marketable than Malone and stockton. nba is first and foremost about making money. They promote the marketable guys.

The 97 and 98 Jazz squads were top tier talent. Anyone who says otherwise doesn't know basketball.
This Jazz team is one of thr greatest teams that never won a championship.
You can thank Michael Jordan for that...twice.
@@ponypower8 Along with Hakeem...twice.
back when defense was a thing in the nba
tell me about it. Had the Jazz not gotten older and some players retire, the Lakers would never have gotten to the finals, much less win chips.
Shaq vs Stockton? Are you kidding me?
Watching this it's evident that had the Jazz team not gotten older, the Lakers would never had made it out of the West, much less win any chips.
You can't compare teams 2 and 3 years later when they have young stars and different coaching and benches. Phil would've never let them lose to Utah.
Uh... no lakers always had trouble with Utah because of how poorly shaq played pick n roll defense
@@TheSands83 great, great sıgnıfıcant poınt. Now thats knowledge of 🏀 👏

Downtown Los Angeles Lakers (312) real Die Hard Fan i never gave up on them and as a Fan i saw them win 6 Championships in my Era from 1993-2024
Why you think they never got there with Del Harris? Coach or that roster?
Awesome highlights of the Utah Jazz! Thanks for uploading this video.
Karl Malone and the Jazz used to own the Lakers in the late 90s, and yet before he retired, he had to join forces with the Phil Jackson led Lakers, and still couldn't get a ring!
He was absolutely done as a player then. Useless. Should've retired
He averaged over 20 and 10 the year before joining the lakers
Malone doninated with Lakers, he got injured
@@kgisabeast He didn't play as well in the Lakers system
Malone was a pick and roll merchant and he was not used to the change of system when he joined the Lakers

Randomly came across this feed. Just like watching it all over again. Jazz were a fantastic team.
They were, used to have the loudest fans, not so sure anymore.
@@hazeykun Were, that is the key word. The Jazz organization is not remotely the same now. New owner, new arena name, different in every sense.
Imagine if Kobe and Jordan met in the finals!!! 🤭
Fr people talk about lebron vs Kobe but imagine Lakers vs bulls. Kobe vs Mike.
5:05, holy hell! Got to hand credit to Tag for going up there with the Diesel.
The look of resignation in nick van exels face.... He KNEW
i’m reading Kobe’s book right now and there’s a part explaining this scene so im here to watch the visual side.
ON PAPER, this Lakers team was deeper & more talented than the one that Phil Jackson guided to a championship.
how come Del Harris never took them all the way you think? utah, seattle and bulls took em out.

I strongly disagree. The 2000 and 2001 Lakers teams were LOADED. I even forgot some of the guys who were on those squads.
Jazz was the spurs before the spurs
From a jazz guy, kid twenty years ago. Niagara Falls.
That dunk by Shandon Anderson though...
That Jazz won 64 games that season. Only Malone was all star. Lakers had 4 all stars. Swept. Respect the best team that never won a championship.
People forget how KM used to serve the Lakers.
Never realized how bad the lakers defense was. Robert horry in particular. He got tossed around every play by Malone. Like every time though!!

Del Harris false! Then jazz vs Chicago in finals as u knew.😵👌👍,Rip to Kobe Bryant 🕊️🙏
@stephaniemalley5694 I remember this series because Kobe sucked back then ! He shot air balls that had us like wtf
Spoiler alert jazz won game 4 and completed the clean swept of the 62 win Lakers 😂

kobe would have started his legacy that game if they would have put him in
Crazy to think jazz with 2 all stars swept the lakers with 4 all stars tht season
They lost because Eddie was getting Kobe minutes
lol FG% and efficiency of kobe was totally below Eddie Jones. eFG of Kobe was 46% and Eddie has 55.5% aside.

The previous lakers coach let Kobe sit on bench. Kobe didn’t play starter until new coach Phil Jackson became head coach in 1999.
lol what that statement has to do with anything?? they still had 4 all stars and the #1 scoring team in the nba dat year
Too bad we get a Jordan pippen Kobe shaq finals
One Dream, Chicago vs L.A. 1998.
What Game is this ??
MJ, Pippen, Rodman, & Harper vs Kobe, Shaq, Eddie, and Nick Van Exel. 98 finals would've been sick!

shaq was a beast
+Mark Lim ShaQ and Malone

Malone wouldnt even fuck with shaq
Wouldn't make sense for him to, he's a 4 Shaq is a 5. Leave that to Ostertag, even though he got served day and night by Shaq.
Kobe shaq not on there prime
Shaq was averaging 27 and 11 lol
