Had better graphics and more exciting gameplay for sure. But I believe zelda was a far earlier game, before the full power of the system had been explored. So I don’t think it’s a fair comparison.
I didn’t grow up in the 80’s but when I was a kid I had this game on an emulator. It was a fun time, and this song and hell the whole soundtrack give me a lot of nostalgia
If only Nintendo would remember that this series exists... Genyo Takeda was the one who came up with this series, but now he's retired. Does anyone else still at Nintendo even care about these games as much as he did?
So I got home from work, drinkin' some coffee, watching bad television and I suddenly think... it's time to look up the music from Startropics. No idea why it suddenly popped into my head, I haven't played it in years, but upon listening it took me way back. ^_^ Thanks for uploading.

I'm just from 93', grew up with old consoles which my older sister had. Yep, i remember this difficult game. One of NES games that actually had savegame capabilities. Anyway, i still have the console 😊
Yeah, they really need to either remake this game or make a Star Tropics 3. If they do the later, it should be with retro 16-bit SNES style graphics and sound. The 3rd one would have been on the SNES had they continued with the series after Zoda's Revenge.
Nintendo was against video game renting (they considered it a form of copyright infringement) and even tried suing Blockbuster over their games being rented out. This was Nintendo's response to stop video game rental stores and their customers from getting far in the game (before the internet). Such a fantastic series. Absolutely recommend to anyone and everyone. Just note that you will need to Google what's going on with your uncle's letter. It's required to see what's hidden there, and it's not in the game at all.
The reason for that is because if you bought the game brand new, there was a letter in there written by your uncle that you're supposed to dip in water.
So many memories in this tune. Unfortunately the remixed version they used in the sequel doesn't sound quite so good. It seems a bit off by a harmonic or something, at least to me.

Same here. I still consider this Nintendo's most underrated and overlooked game ever. This was a masterpiece of a game!
I still sing this tune as I dance through my house 26 years later. This is the first game I ever beat and boy was it hard. This was my Zelda.

It was nice to play a Zelda-styled game that wasn't LoZ. Too bad there's not much replay value

The problem is that Nintendo generally wants its games distributed worldwide. This game and its sequel were never released in Japan.
Every so often this song just pops into my head and I have to come listen to it. This game was an absolute gem when I was a kid.
