  • First video on how to make a knife sheath for your bushcraft knife. I start by ditching the crappy original sheath, then cut a piece of leather, wetshape it and sew it up using a really neat type of saddler´s stitch.

I learned a lot. Thank you! I saw the 1st (4th) Star Wars movie in 1977. A friend and I saw it at a drive-thru, in my 66 mustang with the top down and a couple beers. Great memory.

Good work! I’m going to use the sausage reference for everything.

I do love the kind of dry humor. He loves to share his knowledge, and craftsmen who does this, will always have my eternal respect. And... hate (because I refuse to acknowledge that I'm envious of their skills 😆).

Thank you for making these videos. I am a blacksmith/knifemaker and I'm getting better at making knives, however what is a good knife if it has an ugly sheath. Seeing your sheath making process and others like it really has helped me find out what works for me and improved my leatherworking. Keep up the great work, and have a great day.

hello and well made. i found it easier to make a square hole in the bench and drop the clamp legs in, until the top is about 80 or 90 cm above the bench top. this holds the clamp very square and firm. when you have finished, have a small lid to close the hole in the bench ! easy, regards, Michael

Thanks a lot. I’ve used similar solutions in the past. But nowadays I prefer to work with the clamp featured in the videos.

Just a quick tip. I hold a cork behind the leather before I push my awl through. It keeps you from poking your finger and gives you a solid (yet penetrable) surface to push against.
    Thank you. Nice work.

Thanks for sharing tips and ideas. I know about the cork trick, but I’ve only seen it used by people who use a short awl and punch holes downwards onto a work surface. I prefer my way, and don’t think I’d be comfortable holding a piece of cork in my hand like that, just one more tool to pick up and put down all the time. But this also illustrates the fact that there can be many right ways to achieve a result in craftmanship. So while your cork method may work well for some, my awl technique may be better for others.

I prefer the Morakniv sheath to any other sheath out there, (even Kydex) because it allows to sheath the knife, without having to completely clean the blade and the handle to resheath it. One of the main uses, of an outdoor knife, is to collect wild edible ( both plants, herbs and mushrooms) You can not go for wild edible plants, with a leather sheathed knife. you will have to clean it every 1 or 2 minutes and if it rains (most plants grow in the winter) then say goodbye to the leather sheath, because rain, will destroy it.
Same goes for hunting knives. If you have to resheath the knife, you have to clean it, with Morakniv sheaths, or Fallkniven sheaths, you just sheath the knife, as it is and you clean it in the end and only once, either in the field, or if it's stainless, you can clean it at home!!!

Ok. Don’t use a leather sheath for your knife then.

It’s always a good idea to try and make something yourself. If it doesn’t come out perfect, at least you’ve leared some things in the process.
