Amazing leather project and a very concise and detailed explanation. Young people like yourself makes me believe that this generation has a fighting chance. Greetings from Toronto.
Brad, I loved this. I've been researching how to do my own sheath and this was hands down the best video on the subject for those without lots of leather tools! Thank you.
People who make how-to videos, this is a how-to on how to make those videos. This is presented so that anyone could do this, and have a well crafted piece. Thanks for the vid.
Amazing video! Thank you for sharing it! You are the first one I’ve seen who’s actually used epoxy to protect the threads as well as leave a drain port at the bottom. Right on for thinking of that. Maybe other folks do as well but I personally saw you do it here. And thank you for the easy music. My aging ears can’t do a whole lot of heavy music anymore. Lol. Stay young as long as you can. May your talents and your creativity take you far. God bless
This is a very helpful video for us beginners. Short and concise instructions and easy to understand. Thank you for sharing , I'll be saving this one for future projects.
Dude, that was an awesome video! Very thorough! I wish more people would be as clear and concise as you. Hell, the way you do it, it leaves every base and objection covered. Great job!
Brad, Just a word of caution .. you use the power sanders without any sort of mask protection. Leather does not dissolve in the lungs. Remember coal miners and black lung 'disease' from coal dust in their work environment and you get the idea. Leather dust from what I've researched can be very fine and hard to detect. Get a good mask with filter cans on the side. You can open the cans from time to time and see how much gunk they saved you from. This would also apply if you are hand sanding. It's a pain, but you are young and have a lot of leather crafting potential ahead ... Short term hobbyists [including retirees like myself] don't have to worry too much ... but even then ... a covid mask is better than nothing.
I second this. I’m a wood carver. For a long time I was an “ehhh I’ll be fine” type of person when it came to sanding and not wearing masks. My lungs are fine, I think, but not wearing a mask absolutely annihilated my sinuses. It’s a slow progression so you don’t really notice it for a while at first but eventually it’ll get to the point where bloody noses are a regular occurrence and you get sinus infections anytime there is the slightest irritation to the sinuses. Allergies? Sinus infection. Cold? Sinus infection. Tiny bit a dust breathed in while cleaning? Sinus infection. Not fun.
Nice vid dude. I glue the welt in on both sides then stitch. 100 and 1 ways to do this. I don't dye much of the inside of the sheath, just what folks will see. If you cut deep enough for the stitches on the inside of the sheath for the belt loop there are no worries about cutting the stitches, they are below the cut line. Never thought of gluing them, I'll try that. The taper on the knife helps with that too. I wet form after stitching too as everything is already lined up and stitched. Not complaining about your process as it works fine. I just do it a little different. Same results.
You Sir just gained yourself another Sub. I’m looking into making my own sheath and out of all the videos I have browsed yours is by far the easiest to understand. I have no prior experience in the art but after watching this video I have gained the confidence to finally start. Thank you so much.
Thank u so much for sharing this. I have a couple favorite knives that need a sheath. I want to make one for myself. I’m a single momma with 2 sons who want one as well. I much to learn but so excited to try. Wish me luck. Thanks again.
I’ve never worked with leather & this was exactly the type of leather sheath making video I was hoping to find. You answered a lot of questions I had going into the video especially with the stitching etc. I’m a new subscriber and look forward to seeing more vids! Work safe.
I am a bladesmith & I have many blades that need sheaths. Thanks for the video. I have watched many & commented on none. This video is the best. I am now ready to make my first sheath...Thanks
My daughter, Emma,13, selected this as her very first project. She's up to the leather shop at the moment getting stuff while the molded sheath is drying... I'll probably not get that really old buck hunting knife back... Thanks! And your layout is wicked fast. Mark
Im a knife maker, and i have to agree man, your video is the one that set me on birdie, not par 😉, very simply laid out, i thought to myself oh god, i have all these knifes i cant sell cause they don't have sheaths, noone wants a knife and no sheath, thank you sir, great! Looking sheath btw, hell with the thumbs down people, excellent job,
Very pleasant and easy to understand video, even if my English is not that fluent! Nice music and relaxing atmosphere, you must to be very nice person! :) Hello from London !
I really like EVERY STEP if I ever wanted to try making a sheath. As an avid outdoorsman, and friends with many others, this is an awesome piece. Thanks again for another great video, looking forward to the next 👍
CraftShop I think it's only a matter of time. I began blacksmithing, took a course recently, a wood shop and tools at my disposal. To make a knife/axe/hatchet/hammer and all the accessories from start to finish is extremely rewarding.
Brad that was great. I'm getting a new bushcraft knife tomorrow and I don't like the sheath it comes with, this vid has inspired me to make my own. Thanks!
New Subscriber... Love the creativity, the out-of-the-box thinking and especially the starting with the creation of the template... Keep it up young man, you gave an old fart some ideas to work with and it is appreciated!
Well done and quite informative. You'll find it much easier to glue the sheath together then drill out your stitching holes. A stitching horse will hold the leather while you stitch. Easy enough to make one.
I really enjoyed this video. I'm going to hit the craft store for tools , leather, and dies and polish and make sheath for my first made knife from 01 steel.
This is one of the best sheath tutorials I have ever seen! Your love for the craft outshines this sissy amazing work. The only question I have unanswered is: "How do you estimate how much thread you 'll need for stitching?" Other than this, the tutorial and sheath are pure perfection!
Wow,love the way you made the sheath look well worn.for burnishing the edges i saw in an other vid the guy had an old drill press pully mounted on a bench grinder, asked him about it,he said it did a better job and saved alot of time burnishing, might want to try it out.
I am about to make my first sheath and I found this video the most helpful of all I have viewed. Well thought out and easy to follow. Great job! PS I have subscribed and have watched other videos as I am a new knife maker also.
Some very good ideas. The strip between the free margin to prevent the knife edge cutting the thread. The single piece pattern for the sheath. Use of the drill to widen the stitch holes.(considering the thick leather).. Wonder if a simple nail can be used by those who do not have a drill. Use if the epoxy too,-good idea.
I’m in the process of making a sheath for my Bowie knife I made 😁🇮🇪 thanks for your great informational video very easy to follow without the confusing measurements and numbers 😨😰
A round file just a little wider than the leather would put a perfect groove in your dowel for burnishing. It also works to put a plastic burnisher in the drill press. Nicely done!
Amazing leather project and a very concise and detailed explanation. Young people like yourself makes me believe that this generation has a fighting chance.
Greetings from Toronto.
Please don't vote for treudo again Toronto.
Your city is a dumpster fire.
The absolute, most concise, and easy to understand video out there and the mellow music was a plus. I'm saving your video, thank you so much!

Of all the tutorials I watched I thought yours was the best. It is very easy to understand and it gives you confidence to try it. Thank you
This is a fantastic example of what a how-to video should be.
KP MacGregor thanks for watching! I appreciate it!

Good video! I love the molding of the leather before stitching it up - really helps so the sheath can "hug" the knife better.
This is a very helpful video for us beginners. Short and concise instructions and easy to understand. Thank you for sharing , I'll be saving this one for future projects.
Brad, great job. I appreciate your attention to details. That is what separates manufactured/factory work from our custom leather work. Blessing Turbo
I like how you give reasons why you took each step. Great work
Great to see someone using tools for a change
Dude thank you so much. By far the best video on here. Thanks to you I was able to make a wicked sheath for my grandfather's knife. Thanks again!
Dude, that was an awesome video! Very thorough! I wish more people would be as clear and concise as you. Hell, the way you do it, it leaves every base and objection covered. Great job!

Mike Dippel Thanks for watching Mike! Appreciate the comment. You should try making one sometime! It's a fun project!

This is one of the best sheath tutorials I have ever seen! Your love for the craft outshines this sissy amazing work. The only question I have unanswered is: "How do you estimate how much thread you 'll need for stitching?"

Thank you Chris!
Anyone got tips on where to get big chunks of leather like that!!?? Nice vid btw very helpful
Nicely done! I'm a believer. This was a great video. Keep making them!!
Thanks for watching!
Great stuff kid. Thanks for the enjoyable how to vid. Very relaxing
Appreciate it, thanks for watching!
I’m in the process of making a sheath for my Bowie knife I made 😁🇮🇪 thanks for your great informational video very easy to follow without the confusing measurements and numbers 😨😰
haha, i have been to kayne and son blacksmith depot in candler... great work and awesome video, keep up the good work !
A round file just a little wider than the leather would put a perfect groove in your dowel for burnishing. It also works to put a plastic burnisher in the drill press. Nicely done!
You have a lathe and wood, just cut a trough in a piece of scrap wood. In 10 seconds you have a burnisher.
Captain Void
Like, maybe using a round file while the dowel is chucked in the lathe?😂
Really nice sheath that is. I like the template idea with the paper.
You should make the EVERY STEP thing a series really insightful.
Knives Galore Thanks for watching! I might have to turn this into a series now hahah Thanks for the idea!
CraftShop The people have spoken.
That was awesome!
Your stitching is very nice
