god these riffs were so ahead of their time. so many bands heard this and made an entire career out of it. super underrated track
This comment needs to be at the top lol it's a crazy statement to be able to say like 50% of an entire genre made a career out of one album/song but you aren't wrong at all. This song holds up by today's standards and more

Not ahead of their time they were all derived from mainly Maiden, Sabbath,Queensryche, ozzy, and even some punk bands , these riffs werent new and styLe, not even octive or note , they werent ahead of their time merely a morph into the new age , metalcore style that sits now , ,, they influenced the style not the sound itself nessacarily
Their drummer is so solid in this. Obviously everyone is, but the drummer has to lead the rhythm. It's wild listening to some of Black Dahlia's old tracks and how timing gets off at points in Funeral Thirst i.e. This track is still awesome today.
The acoustic part where Matt sings just gets to me. I know every A7X song and this has to be some of their best work imo. Waking the Fallen was flawless

When I walk home and have it on full blast I wonder what people think if they can hear it, and it's weird when it gets to that bit cause I always assumed they'd give me an odd look.
I love just blasting it for all to hear. Whatever I'm listening to. People get mad due to their crappy music taste and I blast it louder when that happens >:D
I can see why they don't like the screaming, it's not really a popular genre (compared to the amount of people on the earth) but even the way it's sang along with the instruments is real nice.
Best song on the album. The way it goes from double time to halftime to everything in between, different types of screams, clean and screaming duos, the transition at 3:35... just knocks my socks off

Such a hard hitting, beautiful piece of metalcore. One of the all time best A7X songs.
People give this band so much shit for being mainstream, but honestly lots of their songs, like this one, have excellent songwriting, great riffs, and lots of creativity
It's the awesome combination of actual singing and screaming along with everything else it's just so freaking gooooooood.
I like all A7X. I love Punk A7X (STST), I love Metalcore A7X (WTF), I love Hard Rock A7X (COE), I love experimental A7X (Self Titled), I love Horror A7X (Nightmare), I love Radio Friendly A7X (HTTK), I love Prog A7X (TS), I love Video Game A7X (NRTD, CO, JH) and I love raw A7X (Demos)

I have this cd and i dont think ive ever listened to this spacific song.
Its basically everything that i loved about them. Screams, cleans, crazy guitars/bass (lets give johnny some credit.) And crazy drums. Its the essence of the band before the rev passed.
Takes me back to learning guitar from every album of theirs when I first found them in 2007. It’s insane how ahead of their time they were, and the fact all of them but especially Jimmy were around 21 when they made this. Absolutely insane talent.

I'd say its the fact that this song and album are coming up on 15 years old. Couple that in with the possibility that a lot of the people that listen to Avenged Sevenfold now most likely came around somewhere between Nightmare and HTTK. They either never took the time to backtrack their catalog or just preferred their newer sound. To me WTF is my favorite Avenged Sevenfold album. This album played during a lot of pivotal moments in my life. This album will always be held close to the heart.

This was my first metalcore song. At the time I thought it was too much, but now I've really grown to like the genre. This is probably the best album, purely for it's replay-ability, and also how it just bangs.

awaken the fallen is an album on the once in a life time plateau... buy it, save it... no bigger a7x fan than me but time goes and things change. I bet there is a year or two of your life, just like us all, we didn’t realize it was bliss.... then looking back... damn it man!! We rushed through it!!! Awaken ain’t coming back anymore than that sweet year or two of your late teens/ early 20s.. cherish the album and the sound, those handful of years we all Pissed Away looking for better

The reason A7X have gone as long as they have is because they keep changing their music style, if they kept it the same, they would of ended a long time ago. When HTTK was released I wasn't keen on it, but after a while I started to get into it. Every album they release is just as good as the previous.

seriously one of the greatest bands ever and diverse they can be aggressive heavy kickass and dark or emotional with there softer and haunting tracks when they have there acoustic piano or violin and m shadow has a stellar voice unique and brilliant
