7 years of The Stage. It's been 7 years that I come back at least once a week and get the same chills as the first time. A Grammy was not enough. This is golden.
I can’t believe I just realize the symbolism of this video. (If you disagree let me know what you think I’m all ears but here is what I think) The People, Us, we were watching history and learning about it and how tragic it was with killing, mass murder, and war being the only solution we knew and we were laughing at it when in the end we are going to be the ones up next to perform on the stage and the next generation is going to do the same, laugh at us like we did with the generation below us. It’s a endless cycle. Avenge is/was telling us to wake up from this chaos of mass destruction and break the cycle or we are going to see history start all over again.
It would make sense because he says at the end 'when did the waking apes decide that a nuclear war was the only solution for them keeping the score?' backing up your point of saying modern society is on route and track to make the same mistake of the last couple hundred years (America and Korea escalating tensions are an example) with him to say "just wake up" And then to further back up what you're saying, the first verse comes back to say we're all just performing the extreme acts of the violence in the name of "someone wall call God" (that's from Exist), to conquer and resolve disputes (and sometimes to satisfy our ego). Will this generation become like our predecessors? Simply performing up on the stage so our next generation can laugh in both disgust and have the attitude of 'well yes but we're not like them'. Thanks, by the way, this song has a view now! This song and Exist are amazing.
That outro right before the acoustic guitar is pure bliss. A complex rift that gradually fades as if to say "And on and on we go" Until the reset button, then the acoustic to symbolize simplicity as the cycle starts again.
That WWI scene with the soldiers cowering in the trenches while the officers were toasting and having a good time was so powerful and perfectly captured the way our world is ordered.
Sorry about the late post. But the officers core in ww1 was just as bad off as the conscripted. King Charles was quoted as all our friends are dying over there. That's where the nco class came from. To replace all the officers kill
Lyrics: So I arrived, naked and cold A welcomed change from the abeyance of a ghost town catacomb No need for counsel I appreciate the time I'm not alone (Why don't you get my lawyer on the phone) There were days these child eyes Would overlook the ugliness and fantasize I found my heart for the first time and I awakened in me I left myself to navigate, and oh I felt control (It seems these sheep have quite an appetite) Who is the crowd that peers through the cage, As we perform here upon the stage? As the boy became a man In came a calm sophistication I can hardly understand So lost in ego, didn't notice when the time had slipped away (Yeah, everybody's got a sob story) Jesus Christ, was born to die Leave it to man to levitate his own to idolize We're simply sociopaths with no communication baby I see your angle but we differ from our points of view (So tell me, what's your cross to bear?) Who is the crowd that peers through the cage, As we perform here upon the stage? Tell me a lie in a beautiful way I believe in answers just not today Hope my wheels don't abandon me now, Seeing that I'm out here alone I'm running out of fight And the wind speaks a comforting voice, Guiding me to her arms Mother, I'm alright It took the birth of sin to snake-rattle the mind Before a blow to the head by the gavel of time To wake up Won't you wake up? When did the walking apes decide that nuclear war Was now the only solution for them keeping the score? Just wake up Can't you wake up? Who is the crowd that peers through the cage, As we perform here upon the stage? Tell me a lie in a beautiful way I believe in answers just not today
This album is so underrated, even by a lot of A7X fans. I love all their shit, but this album is a cut above the rest, or definitely the previous couple and I love those albums too. Man, it just hits different, especially with Brooks killing the drums nowadays. The man respects the Revs legacy while innovating in his own way and that shows skill.
Yeah I think Nightmare is my favorite overall, but The Stage is for sure the best in terms of concept and innovative music. Can’t wait for their next one
I understand why everyone likes Gates, he's a phenomenal guitarist. But I don't think Brooks gets the recognition he deserves, he is insanely talented and his work on this album is just mind blowing. The speed and complexity is amazing. I think they should keep him in the future, definitely.
It has been 7 years, I was 14 when this released, now I am 21 and I still haven't backed away from my opinion, that this song is hands down one of the best songs ever written. It is pure perfection, every last bit of it
They're my heroes. What they couldn't come right out and say, all this time, they add as visuals; at the top, we're manupulated and, "ruled," by...REPTILIAN DEMON MONSTERS! These dastard monsters have been overtly harassing me for a year, now, ever since I decided to save the world from the, "New World Order." Real angels have also contacted me and are protecting me from these filth. I've been very skeptical, especially trusting the angels, who, by the way, are extremely intelligent, benevolent gecko like humanoids. They're obviously way smarter than humans. Believe it or not, both the, "demons," and the, "angels," are telepathic, can read our conscious minds, and can do telekinesis, which has happened at my house many times. They're not, "omnipresent," but there are plenty to go around. The angels also are time travelers. They live thousands of years, many are, "eternal." The devil, which I've named, "Butt Hurt the &!(÷,!€$*× %@%!:$," also had a chronovisor, and could not change the future (and it's fate) beyond 2022, when the timelines converged. I'm not beating around the bush here. The demons have the ability to manipulate our minds, without us even realizing it. For that reason, many of you will have knee jerk, negative reactions to this comment. The demons are in the process of going down, right now. The angels will take care of what we can't, but expect us to do all we can, like big boys. I've just begun my job of exposing this. Great measures are taken to hide this info. I've compiled great evidence, some original, at Parler.com/tommy321. I promise I'm not nuts or making this up. After this stuff started happening to me, almost all A7x (and Shinedown) songs made so much more sense! These a holes threatened my life so much and, occasionally, still do, but IDGAF! The outro sounded so sad, I wonder what that cavemen was thinking about as he looked at the audience. It seemed he might have realized something. Its very emotional in the instrumentation. I also enjoyed synyster gates guitar work on here, it feels more varied than ever. He definitely made the song sound very somber in the middle and end.
It's a scary statement because it explains and defines a lot of psychopaths on this planet who would happily do it. I think the thing that really effectively closes that is when he shouts "JUST WAKE UP" As Exist says, we're 'resource-hungry people'. And yet sometimes we can't see past our own small world's.
@@WilzeyLad actually, a lot of people in politics are incredibly insane, they want money, and if you bomb a country, that means they will need supplies, whos gonna sell them supplies? you get the picture.
Not even the snobbiest Metallica fan can deny this album and if they do, fk 'em. They're still living in the past where Metal is only one very specific sound and they all sound the same.
For me it's always been City of Evil. That album is just masterpiece after masterpiece. But that's the great thing about music, is we all have our individual tastes and opinions--yet, none of us are wrong.🖤🤘🏼
I'd rather not hear it on the radio because, I don't know about other stations, but mine only plays a shortened version that cuts out most of the best parts, including almost the whole ending (and obviously the whole intro). I have heard it at least 3 times though and I listen to radio about once a week, so it depends on the area, apparently.
Falkuzrules They play the whole thing where I live, and I fucking love it. How could you cut out anything? They don't do that to Metallica or Megadeth songs.
I just have to say: This is so fucking amazing, the guitars, the drums, the voice, the thematic, they did it again, and i'm agree with everyone, this song deserve more views, but out of the marketing, I think they are doing what they really want, being themselves, and playing what they like, without care if the world prefers pop. And I say again, this album in general is so fucking amazing.
They are doing what they want, and there is a factor that makes everything better: they are not begginers. They have experience, they're mature, and the result of experience + talent is what we've been seeing from them.
It has a bit more meaning than many people realize. You know that green monster hand, holding the puppet strings, at the end? Three years ago, I was exposing and encouraging opposition to the New World Order, when all this paranormal and UFO activity started happening around me. I started getting overtly harassed and my life threatened, by, what turned out to be evil telepathic reptilian demon monsters and their disembodied souls, no joke, at all. They have the natural ability to read our conscious minds, see through our eyes and hear through our ears, utilizing quantum entanglement. They can secretly, telepathically manipulate our minds. They're the crowd that peers through the cage, and are secrerly behind all the evil in the world. They literally get high on some energy, produced by our suffering. I prayed to be sent angels, and extremely intelligent, benevolent reptilian, "angels," who are currently at war with the demons, contacted me, and told me they wouldn't let the demon monsters anywhere near me, physically. It's now my job to expose the demons. They threaten to kill me in all kinds of ways, hit me with telepathic attacks, electronic weapons from the sky and even beg me to stop, sometimes. These evil pieces of excrement are going down, currently, but they'll be trying to blow up everything they can, on their way down. Summary, with evidence: www.quora.com/profile/Thomas-Jones-1963. Tiktok: reptilian_demon_exposure. I've got more evidence to post. I had more on a Parler account, but they shut down. He was aent to warn you, The Devil's right beside you), and Muse (Origin of symmetry). And consider there was one or two non-evil hybrids in A7x. Listen for the clues.
This is a masterpiece. It took me a year and a half of listening to fully comprehend it. I know where are the transitions are now, all the different parts, what he’s trying to say. This is just a brilliant song
For a band which started as a metalcore/ hardcore act i get it why some fans wouldn't liked this album when it first came. This album is not "prog" like Dream Theater, Rush or Yes, but for sure it's their most progressive and dynamic work to date. That's why i believe so many fans of A7X didn't liked this album when it was released and nowdays are appreciating more this amazing piece of music!

I’m disappointed in myself for just hearing this song even though listening to these boys religiously for 10 years...but I’m more disappointed in y’all for not realizing that this message is more relevant than ever.
Same. I listen to them for almost 11 years, but never gave a fuck about the albums after Nightmare. Only recently I was like "fuck that" and listened to HTTK and The Stage. While HTTK imo has only 2 or 3 good songs, The Stage blew my fucking 22yo mind. They started from their roots, for sure, but fucking hell, that's just awesome, but still - Nightmare was their last album that was enough Sevenfoldish for me.

Bro, I'll be honest, I've been watching all the old a7x vids, and I'm crying cause they're so GOOD! Each of them has all the members are having so much fun telling stories through each song! It's so damn beautiful! I'm glad they're still kickin ass to this day!
Another band I've loved much longer (oddly enough; since I found A7X first) released a song (Dir en grey - Vinushka) that highlighted the atrocities of the destruction caused by the nuclear weapon assault on Japan during WWII. It feels to me like as bands mature they eventually start producing more worldly pieces that are more relevant to contemporary life and have less of a fantasy focus...which is cool and I can appreciate the maturity, but I hope no good bands lose their wild sense of the surreal and imaginary during the process of producing heavy sobering masterpieces.
"Us old fans" By that you mean? The screaming heavy sound of Sounding The Seventh Trumpet? The mixed screaming and raspy sound of Waking The Fallen? The raspy with background screaming sound on City Of Evil and Avenged Sevenfold? The raspy with not much screaming sound of Nightmare? The pretty much entirely raspy sound of Hail To The King and The Stage? Avenged Sevenfold just evolved, they make music they want to. M.Shadows isn't going to scream if he doesn't want to on future releases. So move on, accept how they sound in the present
mohamad imran It may change, after Brexit and Hillary getting shut down, it seems as if the people may be waking up and telling those in power to shove it. One can only hope.
+beefcake3131 It also seems like "every bad thing we do will repeat itself/continue until we eventually destory ourselves in the end." But yours is better. :3
The French Revolution doesn't seem to fit though. Because it's the very opposite; Monarchie brought down by the people. So the meaning might be, hopefully, something different than the weak and generic "fight the government" nonsense. I am pretty sure, things will turn out worse, after Brexit and Trump's presidency. America needs a lot of social changes ... the poverty is horrible, and they chose to vote against Obamacare but for someone famous for exploiting his workers and the government. The reason why Trump isn't in the video is, hopefully, that they thought he was never going to make it to president.
HOLY SHIT it took me an hour to get this, look at 1:53 the letters form left to right , ETEWABD the abbreviation for those words are "Even The Elites Will All Be Deceived" this is straight out of the bible. I'm freaking out
Nishan Raisul karim I loved both the song and the video. A7x is one of my all time favorite bands lol, I'm just saying the message of the video and it's execution was brilliant and engaging, a little more than the song was. But I still loved the song. Also Why would you say I'm "not a real fan" lol that's such a dumb thing to say, you can't measure how much of a fan someone is. It's a pretty supid thing to tell someone.
This is such a great song, literally made my day. I'm sick of everyone comparing it to older songs and saying it isn't good. Even if this is the absolute worst song off the album it's still amazing.
I never was the biggest fan of A7X (apart from i wont see you tonight pt1 I barely liked many of their other songs), but this video, the lyrics and the song in general deserves all the fucking awards. This is fantastic. These guys have outdone themselves and created a masterpiece
***** Actually I've only never heard the first album, I've heard all the rest. I found the songs good, but...very few songs were more than just "yea, it's cool I guess".
Basically all the comments on an Avenged Sevenfold vid: 1. People talking about how they like the song and/or music video (which should be me quite frankly) 2. People saying how they didn't like the song or don't like Avenged Sevenfold (which is okay. it's your opinion. Express it as much as you want. But by going on this video and commenting, you're just giving the video views, thereby making the video more popular and allowing more people to notice it. Then making A7X more popular.) 3. People who hate "The Stage" simply because the Rev has passed on (R.I.P) and no longer is an influence on the band and this song isn't from "Waking the Fallen/City of Evil" (Seriously move on. No one cares that you've been a fan for 10+ years and the music they release isn't Waking the Fallen Part 2. If they made WtF II it would just be blasted for being "unoriginal" and a "copy". Bands evolve over time and make new music. Don't like it? Go back to Bat Country. It's simple.) 4. The people who make jokes to get likes (Which are funny). 5. People who try to interpret the video or songs meaning, or both. 6. Self righteous fuckers who think just because they listen to Pantera, Metallica, Iron Maiden etc, means they are Gods gift to metal or rock and their opinion means more. It's annoying as hell. If you don't like A7X, that's great, you don't need to say, "they're not true metal," or, "they're not Metallica". Of course they're not, if I want Metallica, I'd listen to "One" right now. Like myself, I think the video and song are about a deity in life that plays as the crowd and all of us are forced to play a role on the stage to impress said deity. Like my friend said for his senior quote, "Life's a play, choose your role".
I actually believe the aforementioned deity is revealed in Tyson's speech in Exist, and it is in fact both the puppeteer and the crowd. In this song we get the question "Who is the crowd that peers through the cage as we perform here upon The Stage?" and then later on in Simulation we get the most important of them "The curtain rises but who dares to pull the strings?" But then finally we come to the ending speech where we hear "And you find *the human ego* turning the knobs and pulling the levers." I believe the true protagonist in the entire album is the human ego. It's the reason why we've come so far as to lose the meaning of humanity in the midst of the bionic/nanobot revolution, believing that humanity is the peak of goodness and that it should be incorruptible (Paradigm); it's also why we've come to such class issues, since the upper classes believe themselves to be superior to the lower and vice versa, and the risk of nuclear holocaust (Sunny Disposition); also why society constantly cheers the endlessly flawed political system where all in all it's just a power game (God Damn); also why we've pushed technologic progress so far without ever conceiving the idea that these machines we're creating might already be superior to us (Creating God); also why there's such reluctance to question our own beliefs, particularly religious, since we believe ourselves to be the ultimate beholders of the truth (Angels); also why we assume that our reality is the only possible one and that we're practically the center of existence, again because we're allegedly the ultimate beholders of the truth (Simulation); going further on this last topic we're even given an example of the human ego condemning somebody who has a different idea to their own, burning the Italian astronomer Giordano Bruno at the stake in the late 16th century because of his theory that contradicted the Copernican model (Roman Sky); and it's also why so many of us refuse to believe in intelligent life somewhere else in the universe simply because we can't conceive the idea of ourselves not being as unique as we have always believed ourselves to be (Fermi Paradox). In the end, we're finally treated to a song that turns it all around and makes us wake up with its Big Bang allegory: Exist. And it is explained why our ego pushes us forward to what could potentially be our doom. Out from Angels: "The faster we run now, the closer the gun now." Jeez, that took longer than I imagined. You may have noticed I left Higher out, and I did so because I know it's obviously a tribute to The Rev; perhaps it fits with the rest of the album's main theme in some way, but I can't seem to find said way. As for the rest of your comment, I totally agree with you; it's sad, but it's also hilariously ironic. Anyway, I apologize for any possible grammar mistakes I made, English is not my native language. Stay strong, A7X community!
The violence of humanity is an endless cycle. But as long as we have music and art I think we can change. Hearts and minds people. This is how you do it.
I did a literary analysis of this song back in freshman year of high school. The only line I really remember was about how the world is a stage and everyone’s just watching us perform. But what I didn’t realize until watching this video is that we’ve been the audience, and now it’s our turn on the stage. Hopefully our audience will learn from our mistakes but unfortunately that doesn’t seem to be the way history goes. Man this song and video gives me chills
You should read Allegory of the Cave by Plato. An ancient Greek philosopher but a genius before his time. A7x does a great job with this song to really capture how it is in the real world.
@@rinaarsenic3909 i absolutely love the allegory of the cave. i know the story but haven't read it, is it still worth it to read the story or just know what happens?
@@sylvieblahblahblah Yes you should definitely still read it! There's always something new you can get from it every time. I think it definitely questions our reality and what we know is true.
@@rinaarsenic3909 hello, was looking through the comments and was intrigued by this particular thread. The book you mentioned, I've never heard about it. I would love to read it now. Where may I purchase it for the most reasonable price? I'm financially-challenged right now. Anyway, I love this thread and thought it was so cool that the OP wrote about this for their education. You both have my respect. Appreciate it sincerely. Thanks so kindly in advance.
That's cause grammys are reserved for the politically incorrect, and wanted deemed for "popular/successful/non working class" ass TV material. 1% views us as garbage and controls us, well ill give the middle finger right back..maybe a gun
Well what do you expect, look out in nature and understand just how brutal a birthplace we have grown up in. We talk about how scary nukes are, yet its noting compared to the forces out side earth, like metors. When you look at it from nature's perspective we been going towards kindness at a incredible speed our bodys haven't even gotten time to evolved with our culture. So while I appreciated the message of stop doing war, it's always a bit weird we so hard on our self.
This is one of the best metal songs written in the last 10 years. The guitar is Badass and sounds ungodly (syn is insane as usually). The vocals are super raspy and on point. The meaning behind the song is also starting to really hit home, especially with everything going on in the world right now
6:20, easily the greatest riff Avenged has ever written in my opinion. And it's so simple. Swapping between a major and minor arpeggio, the drums mirroring the rhythm guitar, the wild bends etc. This is the riff I consistently play air guitar to.
DiAbOliCaL41 Also, the tone of the Rhythm Guitar is absolutely killer. It also helps that Shadows let out a scream there, really set the awesome mood of the whole section.
@@jessewilliams8724 Thank you for the feedback, out of everyone who has tried to correct me you have been the first right one. But, the slaves did not build the pyramids, in fact, records say that they did not build at all. so you corrected me but in the wrong way
I remember this song when it came out. I stayed listening to just this one. Just love the sound of it. The guitar. The drums. The voice and the story of the song in general. Never disappoint.
And I never left, TBH I LOVED Hail To The King, mainly Shepherd of Fire, This Means War, Heretic, Planets and St. James (It reminds me of my deceased grandfather :D)
Alot of people here dont appreciate their other albums they are so stuck onto sounding of the seventh trumpet and waking the fallen. Personally i love all of their albums and man I have a feeling this will be more epic than hail to the king!
This music video or the director or whoever thought it up and built the props should have won some kind of award for best music video. Such a unique idea that fits perfect with the lyrics of the song.
Ray Cocker It will forever be around. Metal is always going to be here. It'll change from time to time, new genre's will come around. But metalheads will always be here and continue to make metal music.
i know right? hey i know a7x just released a new song, but if you're up to some more new music you should check out my band! i think if you like a7x you might like my music too!
nah.. not your decisions are made for you, but the framework within which those decisions can be made... but let´s be fair, it got less restrictive than a few hundret years ago, or a few decades ago even...
@@Shane-hc9fq They literally sing "wake up, can't you wake up?" while a death machine rolls shooting over the screen. You can't get much directer than that without screaming it directly into their face ^^
He definitely stepped it up. His playing was always spectacular, but this song is genuinely special. I like that it's so long and has those long bridges.
I like all the music, but this showcases Syn's ability to play other forms of lead, other than just sweep picking the whole time, which gets a little repetitive after a while. I also loved the acoustic part in the middle and the spanish guitar at the end.
I was just 13 when this song was released. As a drummer, I was stunned by the unreal performance of the whole band but more importantly, this song, lyrics, solos and this film is so powerful that after 7 years, still it affects me profoundly. One of the best works of art out there. Everyone should listen and watch this at least once in their lives. Respect ❤
kind of ironic that you have a metallica picture on and your giving credit to a7x XD, no disrespect, i love them both, but you've got to admit, what the hell was this means war
Avenged Sevenfold should have put Adam and eve in the beginning of the puppet show instead of two cavemen, they were the first human's on earth, and also the first people to sinned against god's will by consuming the forbidden fruit from the tree of knowledge of good and evil.
This song only makes me love Richthofen's quote in Revelations." Accept your fate, begin a new" meaning we could end up killing ourselves because of war, corruption, revolts only to start back from where humanity began
lemkelegion Yes. The voice change is slightly overwhelming at first making one unable to hear the beauty. But I'm three listens in and it just keeps getting better!!
All i paid attention was the video...Damn, couldnt be more realistic. A7X is in the business, they know the behind the scenes stuff, and they know who runs things....Great video. I just wish more people acknowlaged that this is what is actually happening.
I haven't watched yet but just the name alone gave me the feeling that that was the case.. I'd recommend actually listening to the lyrics as well because A7x always had esoteric meanings in their songs
Nicole P and that's what sickens me with this world... Care little about what our destruction cause and more about dealing more against other. We as humans love destruction and you can see if within this video and other media outlets that all we want is death and carnage anymore... And that's going to lead us back to the stone age to start over.
It's echoing the same message that has been echoed for a long time, the people behind the curtains show the world whatever they want the world to see to distract them It then goes off into a matter of and they are being controlled by a higher power. The 1%? A religion? Death? The Illuminati? The point is that we don't know who the puppet masters are. The lyrics echo this with stuff along the lines of "wake up". It feels like they are trying to endorse activism and to aspire to change tbh
Love how they have the broken promises to Native Americans and the officers celebrating during the war while soldiers cower in their dugouts. This song and video is amazing.
The only criticism I have of this song is the drum sound, it's a bit flat and nowhere near powerful enough... still, I think this will be one of their best albums too
when I saw this master piece I thought "what the fuck we did with the world?" so when syn's solo arrive in a strange way I feel so sad thinking about all this shit, is strange but at the same time makes me love this song
***** Nah, you can't just state what a masterpiece is if you know nothing. Sure the message and the music are nice but... masterpiece are way too big words to describe this. Don't use big words so much.
I swear Synyster Gates keeps getting better and better both musically and as a shredder.

That guitar solo...so emotional. Syn is literally screaming at humanity through his guitar to wake the f*** up. Incredible
Love this metaphor
Syn’s ability to express such powerful emotion through his guitar playing is what makes him one of the best for me… truly incredible 🔥

Wow amazing I never even though about it you analyzed it very well actually
Can we be friend I really admire your thought )
I thought the crowd were celestial beings laughing at us
It would make sense because he says at the end 'when did the waking apes decide that a nuclear war was the only solution for them keeping the score?' backing up your point of saying modern society is on route and track to make the same mistake of the last couple hundred years (America and Korea escalating tensions are an example) with him to say "just wake up"
And then to further back up what you're saying, the first verse comes back to say we're all just performing the extreme acts of the violence in the name of "someone wall call God" (that's from Exist), to conquer and resolve disputes (and sometimes to satisfy our ego). Will this generation become like our predecessors? Simply performing up on the stage so our next generation can laugh in both disgust and have the attitude of 'well yes but we're not like them'.
Thanks, by the way, this song has a view now!
This song and Exist are amazing.
History repeats itself, can this be undone?
Yep, it sure is.
They don't call it "Theater of War" for nothing
It's nothing new but they did it well and that's what matters
The leaders are evil indeed.
I still can't believe this song didn't win a Grammy
Same, when this shit came out before they ditched the Grammys I already knew they were gonna win one for this song, but, yk
@B-13 JOSEPH I think it was released a bit too late for it to get nominated? Not sure tho
They were nominated. The grammy went to Run by Foo Fighters
@2026.Nate Currie you make a good point
How can you win a useless Grammy with no radio play, at least not on Detroit radio anyway. And Detroit radio Is awful.

„When did the walking apes decide that nuclear war was the only solution of them keeping the score“
Lyrics:
So I arrived, naked and cold
A welcomed change from the abeyance of a ghost town catacomb
No need for counsel I appreciate the time I'm not alone
(Why don't you get my lawyer on the phone)
There were days these child eyes
Would overlook the ugliness and fantasize
I found my heart for the first time and I awakened in me
I left myself to navigate, and oh I felt control
(It seems these sheep have quite an appetite)
Who is the crowd that peers through the cage,
As we perform here upon the stage?
As the boy became a man
In came a calm sophistication I can hardly understand
So lost in ego, didn't notice when the time had slipped away
(Yeah, everybody's got a sob story)
Jesus Christ, was born to die
Leave it to man to levitate his own to idolize
We're simply sociopaths with no communication baby
I see your angle but we differ from our points of view
(So tell me, what's your cross to bear?)
Who is the crowd that peers through the cage,
As we perform here upon the stage?
Tell me a lie in a beautiful way
I believe in answers just not today
Hope my wheels don't abandon me now,
Seeing that I'm out here alone
I'm running out of fight
And the wind speaks a comforting voice,
Guiding me to her arms
Mother, I'm alright
It took the birth of sin to snake-rattle the mind
Before a blow to the head by the gavel of time
To wake up
Won't you wake up?
When did the walking apes decide that nuclear war
Was now the only solution for them keeping the score?
Just wake up
Can't you wake up?
Who is the crowd that peers through the cage,
As we perform here upon the stage?
Tell me a lie in a beautiful way
I believe in answers just not today

@Artobacco, now I know they are. But to the guy who put them in the comments also, thank you.
The Stage and Roman Sky gives me chills every time.
A7X is just the best band ain't they 🤘🏼 love all there songs 🤘🏼
City of Evil will always be my favorite but in terms of being truly meaningful, The Stage has a lot to say and is *DEEP*.
Yeah I think Nightmare is my favorite overall, but The Stage is for sure the best in terms of concept and innovative music. Can’t wait for their next one
Amen I agree.
I understand why everyone likes Gates, he's a phenomenal guitarist. But I don't think Brooks gets the recognition he deserves, he is insanely talented and his work on this album is just mind blowing. The speed and complexity is amazing. I think they should keep him in the future, definitely.

It's amazing. This is a legit famous band, this is a critically acclaimed song and album, but have heard nothing on the radio
dante040
I've heard this song on the radio many times.
Enrique Godinez satellite or terrestrial?
dante040 It comes on every now and then where I live, it could be playing more, but I don't know cause I'm usually listening to my cds.
Hard to believe it's 6 years old already, still amazing as when I first heard it.

WTF..this song is something else......what a music...what a song...what a lyrics...what a video.. everything is just perfect......
No lie this is one of the most meaningful music videos to exist
Summary, with evidence:

This song is such perfect commentary on humanity it isn't even funny. Avenged is transcending. And we get to hear the gnarly sound as they go!
This band's progress over the years has been unbelievable

Just because they change their sound, doesn't mean they went backwards. Nightmare was my favorite, it has that eerie feeling.
Waking the Fallen is awesome, though I like all the others too
Lord Sval Xeno Xeno Morph
"Us old fans" By that you mean? The screaming heavy sound of Sounding The Seventh Trumpet? The mixed screaming and raspy sound of Waking The Fallen? The raspy with background screaming sound on City Of Evil and Avenged Sevenfold? The raspy with not much screaming sound of Nightmare? The pretty much entirely raspy sound of Hail To The King and The Stage? Avenged Sevenfold just evolved, they make music they want to. M.Shadows isn't going to scream if he doesn't want to on future releases. So move on, accept how they sound in the present
The video is powerful and makes a good point. The average person is a a puppet for those in power.
our society today lol
beefcake3131 right I was thinking the same! good message but seeing as nothing will change this kinda pointless.
mohamad imran
It may change, after Brexit and Hillary getting shut down, it seems as if the people may be waking up and telling those in power to shove it.
Nobody brought me here. This band is just mind-blowing. They killed everything with this album. They'll do it once again.
This is one of the best music videos I've ever seen and one of the best songs I've ever heard. I've cried watching it.
Thank you.
This song made me tear up too especially the guitar solo

These guys have outdone themselves and created a masterpiece
blazejecar what the heck.
I definitely agree with everything you said. Because I'm the same way, I only enjoy a few of their songs.
you didnt listen to enough of them, they already are a masterpiece
I mean I don't think you've heard all their albums if you only call those two enjoyable tbh.
***** Actually I've only never heard the first album, I've heard all the rest. I found the songs good, but...very few songs were more than just "yea, it's cool I guess".
Basically all the comments on an Avenged Sevenfold vid:
1. People talking about how they like the song and/or music video (which should be me quite frankly)
2. People saying how they didn't like the song or don't like Avenged Sevenfold (which is okay. it's your opinion. Express it as much as you want. But by going on this video and commenting, you're just giving the video views, thereby making the video more popular and allowing more people to notice it. Then making A7X more popular.)
3. It's simple.)
In this song we get the question "Who is the crowd that peers through the cage as we perform here upon The Stage?" and then later on in Simulation we get the most important of them "The curtain rises but who dares to pull the strings?" But then finally we come to the ending speech where we hear "And you find *the human ego* turning the knobs and pulling the levers."
I believe the true protagonist in the entire album is the human ego. Out from Angels: "The faster we run now, the closer the gun now."
Jeez, that took longer than I imagined.
BLESS YOU SIR

I did a literary analysis of this song back in freshman year of high school. The only line I really remember was about how the world is a stage and everyone’s just watching us perform. But what I didn’t realize until watching this video is that we’ve been the audience, and now it’s our turn on the stage. Hopefully our audience will learn from our mistakes but unfortunately that doesn’t seem to be the way history goes. Man this song and video gives me chills
The ending harmony by Syn is fucking godly like it conveys the repetition of history
You should read Allegory of the Cave by Plato. An ancient Greek philosopher but a genius before his time. A7x does a great job with this song to really capture how it is in the real world.

This video is actually pretty sad. We have been pretty brutal to each other.
Well what do you expect, look out in nature and understand just how brutal a birthplace we have grown up in.
We talk about how scary nukes are, yet its noting compared to the forces out side earth, like metors.

I like all the music, but this showcases Syn's ability to play other forms of lead, other than just sweep picking the whole time, which gets a little repetitive after a while. I also loved the acoustic part in the middle and the spanish guitar at the end.

Anyone else feel like this song is giving us a message?
yes.. its a warning.
That's the point, and man is it on point!
What's the message, in your opinion?
It's more of Matt Sander's cringeworthy attempt at political commentary. A7x lyrics have never been great.
It's echoing the same message that has been echoed for a long time, the people behind the curtains show the world whatever they want the world to see to distract them
It then goes off into a matter of and they are being controlled by a higher power. The 1%? A religion? Death? The Illuminati? The point is that we don't know who the puppet masters are. The lyrics echo this with stuff along the lines of "wake up".
It feels like they are trying to endorse activism and to aspire to change tbh
Just a reminder how it really is, in case some small act of kindness by someone “restored your faith in humanity “.
