I watched this original on tv and swear to god i remember every second of that performance and played it in my mind often, singing with cher. Thanks for this video. They were incredible together!
Didn't know Sonny & Cher was a big deal back then. Love watching their show every day during lock down. Cher was so damn fine. She had that sweet girly smile which is so adorable.
They were big even before their TV show between 1965/67. They had 10 gold records of songs Sonny wrote & produced, plus 2 gold albums. They redefined themselves in the latter 1960's to become what we saw on TV.

There are several official DVD sets you can purchase plus various people sell unofficial 70 DVD sets of their shows. The 70 DVD sets are from the TVLand airings in the 1990's or TV1 (an Australian network) that aired them in the early 2000's. Ebay or Amazon are good places to look.
I just don't know about this choice for a song. Cher can deliver just doesn't have the vocal range of Rodney Bainbridge ! I liked Sonny and some of their skits were funny. Howard Cosell as janitor (priceless) and overweight southerners (It was easy as pie, PIE !!!!)
That's the way people and celebrities look back then. Real Everybody didn't have every flaw corrected by a surgeon. Like the fake looking celebrities of today.
Sonny was the true star. Songwriter, voice, straightman, intelligence, businessman, you name it!
