Great video, very informative. Smart guy; and he’s not deaf, he has a speech impediment. I have the same one. So for you mean people shut the hell up. You have brain impediments.
I will probably never prospect for gold, but I thoroughly enjoyed this. A very efficient communication of principles that should be obvious but are not. I watched a different video for over an hour and didn't learn any where near as much.
I thank you for the information. I tried panning once. I happened across a panning club working in a creek. They shared their equipment to let me give it a try. I didn't find anything but gold colored chips and they said it wasn't real gold. But I have to say, it was very relaxing. It allowed me to forget about life's stresses for a few hours.
Great video! You don't tend to find this type of knowledge without really looking for it. I am extremely grateful for you sharing your knowledge on gold. You gave definitely changed my perspective on where to find gold thank you so much.
I like the humor. "Yes, it's possible a gold nugget rolled down the bank, hit a rock and ricocheted into a tree. It's possible, but it's not probable. It's not worth the time to go look in that tree for gold."
Great video. Thanks for sharing only in my second year here gold prospecting in the williamette valley in Oregon. No nuggets yet just fine gold. But I'm glad you show the real success and misses on your videos.

@@DlrR77 I have never heard people from Newbrunswick speak like this fellow. I'd guess he has a slight speech impediment. But I'm not from NB just the same.
There are some exceptions to the rule of that impermeable layer (where gold is usually found in that foot or two above bedrock or some other dense layer of material). I recently heard of a miner here in Alaska that was hiking through an area of recent landslide on the side of a hill. He literally saw and picked up a 60 oz nugget off the ground that was released with other gravels by this landslide. The law of probabilities still applies to gold but it is not 100%.
Oh, the stories are often true but they're akin to being dealt a royal flush in 5-card draw. It just doesn't happen that often. Far better chance of being struck by lightning than finding a nugget just laying around. Not to say it doesn't happen - so does getting stuck by lightning :)
I think that nugget is what this guy refers to as "last year's gold." If someone hadn't come along by chance and picked it up, eventually it would have been pushed by the forces of nature (gravity, water, wind) to a lower spot where it would have stopped when it hit bedrock or something like bedrock. So you could walk around on land recently exposed in a landslide and hope you find a giant nugget, OR you could find the spot where nuggets like this one that have become exposed throughout thousands of years could have moved to and stopped. (At least that's what I think this guy's message is.)
Way to get her done! I know it was for beginners! But you covered it well! Keep them coming! No matter what we do in life it will make some people Glad some Sad and the rest Mad! Paul.
Some of the best info found anywhere!! Thanks Man!! I wish Id have found your channel before now but better late than never!! LOL!! Take care! Much appreciated!!
I don't dispute the meaning of the words themselves; obviously, gold is where it is; so is dirt, mold, or air; but the words are used to convey an idea that is completely wrong, namely, that you cannot predict where gold will be. You can. And in that sense, it is NOT just "wherever you happen to find it", but rather, where the laws of physics guarantee that it must be.
Anyone who has prospected for any length of time, and consistently makes a profitable income from it, knows that this is true. It's just like poker - it's POSSIBLE for any hand to win the game. You could say that "a royal flush is where you find it"... but that doesn't make it worth staying in every hand just for that small chance. So successful players fold a LOT. Likewise, successful prospectors pass on 95% of the places they sample and only work the best. Gold follows rules, and so must we.
The "haters" in these comments! The narrator is not being pretentious, or haughty, or condescending. He's trying to teach, period. If you're not learning from him, then go the fuck away! Don't blame him for your thick skulls and calloused hearts. If you've got "advice" to share, do so with some tact, and appreciation for the "place" he's made, for you to offer it.
I really learned something new today thanks so much to this guy! Thank you so much, you are so intelligent and so giving. May blessings follow you to your next gold exhibition!
A good video for explaining the most common deposition type, but the reason people say "gold is where you find it" is that sometimes it settles in areas where you do not expect to find it. For example, you could have an outside bend, where you should not find gold, but perhaps thousands of years ago it used to be an inside bend that was collecting gold for a long time. Sometimes you find a big nugget in the middle of a river. Sometimes you find it waaay up high in the trees. It is most likely where you say, but it is also any other place that gravity works. I have worked a river, which is not supposed to have any gold at all, and found a huge boulder on the inside bend, dug way down to a false bedrock and found nothing, over and over again, nothing. I try another spot, which doesn't look likely at all, and find big flakes and small nuggets, and I'm not even at bedrock. there's a lot of karst, so maybe before a natural bridge collapsed and formed a canyon there was some deposited here or some other cataclysmic event changed the path of the river dramatically, but it's a river that should not have gold, on a bend that should not have gold, and a pay layer that should not be where it is. It is where you find it. Damn, there is not even a gold bearing mineralization in the entire drainage, for dozens of miles in any direction, or any geological formations where it is typically, or even atypically found. Karst, man. Limestone.
If you don't mind me asking, how long have you been prospecting? Was the summer that just passed your first attempt? Either way, great finds! Once again very informative video, thank you very much for sharing your work and knowledge!
Usually where I find good high bank gold, it is also good if not better in the water. However, a lot of areas, the water has been worked over, and the banks have been ignored.... which is part of the reason you hear guys say sample sample sample
I used to dredge in California before the idiot Ahhnold signed a bill outlawing it. Moonbeam also signed a bill to continue the ban. I mainly went to the American River, but also did some on the Bear, Yuba and Feather Rivers and tributaries. This guy is giving you the basics of how and where to look for gold. The suction eddy behind a rock or other obstruction will typically concentrate more gold than a pressure eddy will in front of the rock, but you may get lucky and find larger pieces in the front. Tree roots and moss along the banks can be productive. A good thing to look for dredging are the deep channels in the main water flow. As you dredge them keep an eye out for mercury covered gold. It looks much like lead. A good way to test it is to use a Garrett Gravity Trap gold pan and drag the piece across the bottom of the wet pan. If it streaks, it's probably lead. You can also use a flame or acid to burn it off, but be sure to stay upwind from the smoke & fumes. Since mercury is liquid it flows to the lowest spots in the channels, and it sticks to gold like a magnet to iron. Good luck to all you gold seekers. A book I found to be valuable when I was a greenhorn was by Dave "Ounce A Day" McCracken called Advanced Dredging Techniques. Now I have gold dredges, dry washer and other equipment I can't use. MY FATHER TOLD ME BENDS IN RIVERS GET BIGGER SO THE RIVER USED TO BE IN MARSHES ON THE OPPOSITE OF THE OUTER SIDE OF THE BEND. THIS IS WHAT YOU WOULD BE LOOKING FOR. WHERE THE GOLD WAS BUILT UP FOR A LONG TIME, So, it's probably deep on the inside snakes of rivers. Just like he said.
why are you yelling throughout this whole comment
Haven.'t finish answering your question you asked me
To what?
just want to know what's up?
Him:‚Gold is not where you finde it‘
Me:, Okay i guess i have to leave my unusual place where i found gold‘
Good stuff, love yer accent.
Thank you for posting! I’ve been wondering about this for a while
Kid you are sharp
Thank you this is my journey I'm set on , I mean hell why not just go around and look for gold ,I learned alot from you can't thank you enough
Very informative video. I have never looked for gold in a river or creek although where I live they have said there is some here in our one creek. Are you still gold hunting? With prices today that could be very profitable!
Thanks for the knowledge very much appreciated
