You are supposed to remove the "beard" of the mussels before cooking them. The hairy looking part they use to attach to the rock. It isn't harmful, but that's meant to be removed as part of the cleaning/prep process.
a few suggestions, 1 call the shellfish hotline to make sure it is safe to harvest . 2a prime tool is a set of groove joint pliers so you can chose all the same size. 3 try not to take too many from the same spot as it breaks down the defensive "mat" of the mussel bed. 4 wash them alot, I normally rinse them 4 or 5 times in no sand seawater before leaving the coast and bring them home in seawater to cover them, it will help with any sand they have. 5, plan on the meat to be about 1/3 of the volume or less of the inshell mussels. 6, while picking them remove any small mussels from the ones you want to take, the limit on mussels is 72 I think and if the game wardens get picky,, you could pay 272 $ per over the limit, . 7 cleaning the mussels at home using the groove joint piers works good for the barnicles. after cooking ( steaming) any mussels that do not open should be discarded as they may have been dead when you picked them. I have kept mussels in sea water for 36 hrs before with no problems
Wow I might have to jump a couple of states and go over to the coast and try mussels. So how about sharing where that beach is with us. Sure looks yummmmmmmy. Thanks for sharing
Thank you for taking the time to watch my video and yes as long as you can find boulder of rocks on the coast during a very lowtide you will usually be able to find them. Good luck and cheers!
Wow so many mussels on the rock next to the sea and you take them to cook look so yummy. 😋😋 I hope I can find mussel when I have camping next to the sea.
I honestly don't like seafood other than Cod and Haddock fish, I'm curious on why people like this, I mean no badness when I ask, honestly just curious. It looks gross imo. What is the texture or taste of it?
My grandma soaked any shellfish overnight so they can poop out the sands, because if you cook it the same day ,those sands gets into the meat. Don’t taste good at all.

Do you have mussels in Cambodia?
@@washingtonlife Yes mussel has in Cambodia but it is not easy to find like your video. We need to buy if we want to eat.
You should of have forage for the gooseneck barnacles! They are a delicacy in Europe
How do you eat those gooseneck barnacles?
They are delicious
Gooseneck barnacles are crazy expensive
I’m not a fan of those
Never would imagine a place like this… how come no one harvest them?? Or is there so much that people can’t harvest it all? So many!!!
Yes I was shock as to see so many! Limit is 72 as well so that’s so many! All you really need if it’s just is really a dozen
Very cool video 😎
Thanks for the visit! 😃👍
That’s crazy!
I agree
Your cooking looks so good! I never had wild mushrooms before I wonder are they any different than store bought ones?
They taste way better
Yes usually they are way fresher obviously and the taste is much way sweeter and you can taste the ocean in them
Yes they are much different than store bought and taste way better!

Yes will do next time and thank you for the advice 🙏

No las lavaste antes de cocinar debes limpiarlas con un cuchillo se raspa toda la pieza y se le saca toda impuresa o suciedad. Después se prepara.
