Hi Carla! I came across your channel maybe two weeks ago, and I'm so glad I did. I love how cool and down-to-earth you are, hearing that yes, cleaning and decluttering are challenging is very refreshing. You convey a really great no pressure attitude of "good enough is better than perfect". I don't mean you do an ok job, no, you do a great work every time. But there's a lot of grace towards yourself, gentleness and realness in your videos. I find it very sweet and motivating. I am team tidy/clean. Was that way even as a child. Into adulthood, with family and career ready to go all bat-crap crazy at any time, my home needs to be the one place I can feel is under control! 🤣

I got a vertical accordion file from Amazon and I really like it. In the vertical accordion file all the papers stand upright so when you open it and are looking for some thing the titles are all upright not laying sideways. I think it's a great idea it doesn't take up much room at all and can expand greatly. Of course, I also have a stack of paper that needs to be filed in the accordion file. Or you could just get a desk with drawers and put the papers on top of each other so when you need to look at something you know it's in chronological order. But the drawers may get filled up and you'll need to band papers together and maybe put them in a manila folder and say this is from such and such time to such and such time. I hate papers and you may wish to go digital so you can shred all your papers. For example if you pay all of your bills with online checks you can shred the bills as long as you put a note in the Notes section of the check as to what it's for and the dates it covers. I really hate papers and there's really no need to keep them anymore if you have things digitally or even saved on your computer or iPad.

I'm majorly OCD so my house is almost always perfectly tidy/clean. It's not a good thing, it's exhausting but I just can't seem to help it. Be thankful, you aren't a hoarder and you aren't an OCD perfectionist who can't rest - you are middle of the road which, in my opinion, is the best place to be. You are killing it...and I already placed my order for the Papaya towels. They are stupid adorable!!
I feel ya. I remember as a child dumping out my dresser drawers to refold and organize 🤦🏼♀️ Everything has to by tidy or I just stress and it’s quite annoying. It’s very hard to relax even on vacation. It’s very exhausting especially because I have 2 toddlers that are human tornadoes.
i always envy people who are so tidy and clean!! any time of day someone can pop by and your place is ready. i'm forced to be a minimalist bc i'm so cleaning challenged i realize lol. and yes you will love them they are adorbs and functional!!

@@TheCarlaProject to be honest, I think minimalism is the only way. Whether you are super tidy or a messy person, the less stuff you have, the easier to keep clean and the less stuff you have to compulsively obsess over. Seriously, you are doing things right. It doesn't matter when you start it just matters that you start. You are human and subject to err so allow yourself grace when you "fall off the wagon" and remember that life is a practice not a perfection - I'm mostly reminding myself on that one :)

I'm definitely in the struggle to stay tidy group. I didn't grow up in a house that cleaned and tidy (just put more and more stuff in doom boxes and doom rooms!) and I'm finally at a stage of learning and putting into practice more organisation and returning things to their place but it's constantly a conscious effort not natural at all and I frequently revert back to my slovenliness!
Doom boxes, never heard this term before but it sure makes sense. I will be using this, TY.
@@lindaroyal8161 it was a good term O saw around social media- not sure who came up with it but it's so appropriate for those those things we just quickly put in boxes to deal with at a later date (except that could be years later!).

I am naturally clean and very very OCD, organized and on the minimalist side but still with enough nice things. It is extremely exhausting though, I burn myself out quite a lot. But if I do not have my house almost perfect my mental health starts to dwindle...:( You did a great job and so efficient with your time!

I also didn’t grow up in tidy home, it’s difficult to unlearn habits.
For my paper clutter I purchased 3 accordion folders from staples, They take up a out 5 inches on a book case and everything is organized into there. To keep my papers tidy as they come in I have an 8 pocket folder in my desk drawer and all incoming mails/ bills/ receipts are kept until they go into the accordion folders. Always a work in progress! 😊

The hooks are a PERFECT idea. Well done to Papaya! I always struggle to find a place to put those types of cloths to dry (often ends up on my plate drying rack but it's not great when wet).

Im somewhere in the middle. I usually tidy up my apartment before I go to bed, so I don't wake up in chaos but then stuff just accumulates during the day but yeah...I work from home like so many these days and sometimes you have to rush to take a call and stuff or just can't be bothered. Such is life

Pro tip from pro organizer here. I highly recommend an emergency binder that lives in a fire proof bag or safe. As for the rest, a binder system works so much better and saves so much more space than a filing cabinet. Especially for a single person or small family.
ok i actually bought binders to organize my finances. i just have to find the motivation to sit down and do it! i know i will feel amazing when i actually do. been wanting to check out that one company that makes those cute vaults for emergency binders. i think it's called the vault maybe
I am retired and I clean up every day. I keep my desk everyday. I take an hour every day to clean and it's easy.

dealing with health issues or chronic pain issues is so impactful for keeping tidy. when my migraines were debilitating i had to just use paper plates plastic forks cuz i couldn't even stand. gotta be gentle with ourselves❤️

I'm on Tidy/clean team. My parents had just too much stuff and I always felt claustrophobic with all the stuff. I rather have too little. I fall under the idea that my house is not a store or storage unit.

That was a seriously good and quick speed clean!!! I'm a naturally clean and tidy person which is weird as none of my family are 🤣. But its a constant struggle and like laundry...its a constant chore 😪 there's a couple of hot zones in my house...I think that's realistic as you don't always have time or energy to put everything away...I recently invested in a wicker basket for these 'things' to keep them contained and when I have time I go through the basket and put it away etc....its much better for me 😀 happy belated birthday!! My sister is the complete opposite to me and says she tidies up especially when I visit 🤣🤣 I don't care about anyone else's mess though...its just mine that stresses me out. I did a big declutter a couple years ago and it still amazes me how much faster it is to tidy up now. I love it. I’m now in the midst of decluttering my walk-in closet. It somehow became an easy catch all/storage. But now my bedroom is a disaster. Lol I started months ago! I’m “planning” on having the room and closet finished by the start of May. 😬 🙌🏾🙈 I’ve got this.

And it feels good taking 10 minutes at night to just tidy a bit, especially when I have my son help. Quick and effective.

What strange dishcloths have you bought at IKEA? I live in Sweden and the ones you got here look exactly like the "normal" ones here, everybody uses them. There are a chunky version to tho they are not that common.
Btw, some ppl boil the cloths to keep them clean, I think that is Yak! to do, in a pot used for food, it can stink while doing it to... I clean mine by putting them in the washing machine together with my bamboo-microfiber cloths and other like things.
Swedish dish clothes! I don’t see them there anymore though

Also, randomly: Do you think your upper cabinets was put up at a later date (than construction), and they put them up high to not have to drill holes in the tiles?

i really can not figure it out!! i just know that they split my unit and one next door into two... so the ceilings are tall but they didn't need to put cabinets to the ceiling. even with a tall fridge i don't think it would go that high. 8th mystery of the world over here lol

After binge watching multiple of your videos this morning, I finally summoned the motivation to declutter under the bathroom sink. I'm happy to report that I no longer have 1/2 and 3/4 empty shampoo bottles left (was I saving for a shampoo shortage?). I also have a bad habit of saving samples like you (instead of using them) and had about 10 packets of shampoo samples, so I decided to allow myself to keep the samples since I was throwing out all the bottles under the sink, because the packets take up WAAAAY less room, and I put them where I'll start using them instead of storing them in a basket. I like your idea of getting rid of 25 items a day. I got rid of much more than that today, because once I was in motion it was easy to keep decluttering. Thank you for the inspiration and motivation. You really are helping people out here in the world. :-)

Def I Team It’s a Struggle! I don’t know where to start, I’m guessing closet or small bathroom, work my way up! I’ve been dealing with old mail and recycling, keeping all that caught up - sorta! I like the ide of the Papaya towels, going to check those out!
i say start with the smallest room for decluttering and then when cleaning i always start in that kitchen and at the sink. it gets easier i promise!! and yep papaya towels are the best❤️❤️

You got alot done in a hurry. I'm the same about working under pressure. I can move mountains. Lol. I do tend to just set stuff down but I'm also naturally tidy so multiple times a day I do quick sweep of the house to put things away. It really is all about forming habits.

I am not perfect but I am clean and tidy. I do have a drop zone that I try really hard to maintain. I live in a four hundred square-foot house (small back house) so if I don’t upkeep it things get bad really fast. I will never be a minimalist, lol. I love my knickknacks, art on the wall, and I do crafting. So I have a lot of stuff. One of my good friends told me a long time ago that every night before she goes to bed she wipes down the bathroom sink/toilet, and puts everything away in the kitchen. She said “just maintaining it every day makes life easier so you don’t have to work as hard when you do your weekly cleaning.” You should invest in a chargeable stick vacuum cleaner.

I wouldn’t say I’m a naturally clean and tidy person, but two factors feed into why I am…. One, one of my parents is slightly a hoarder. Whose anxiety and neurosis have rubbed off onto my sister who is a major hoarder, and having to literally wade through piles and boxes of things moving her in and out of apartments, and all that clutter physically and mentally weighing her down… and seeing her hoarding and neurosis rubbing off onto her children has made me not so attached to physical possessions..
And two, having another parent who couldn’t deal with the clutter and would literally go around the house with garbage bags and throw away our toys and things if they weren’t “put away”.. and also I just don’t want to be the smelly kid in class, if you know what I mean.. so I clean?
yes yes yes i relate to so much of this! hoarding is so psychological. i grew up in major hoarding and do not want to be like that so have to change my ways!!

Dyed in the wool neat freak. It drives everyone in my life crazy. I cant handle when things are just lying around. Everything needs a home and it needs to be there if it's not being used.
On one hand it is an asset, some people have to really work at creating organizational systems, and dor me it comes really naturally. But its also not something I can turn off. I cant focus if my bed isn't made. Ill lie awake thinking about a drawer I need to sort out. Its ridiculous and it REALLY effects my mood :P

Team naturally tidy, but it’s down to upbringing, ‘don’t put it down, put it away’, and being pretty minimal in terms of possessions. Im team tidy because my mother was. Seeing things laying around makes me uncomfortable lol. You shoukd get in the habit (or try) to head straight to your bedroom as soon as you take your shoes off and undress there. Hang up your purse and sort your mail before sitting down. I swear it will make a difference. Maybe you need a wider desk and a nice looking in/out paper tray that isn’t too office-y looking. Home Goods has cute desk stuff a lot of times.
I was telling my friend my sports bra was on the floor in the kitchen for a week and she's like whyyyy lol I take my bra off when cooking all the time it makes no sense. I need (mental) help😂❤️

Now I feel there is more to life than just keeping my house clean... plus I don't have a dishwasher in this house and I hate doing dishes. 😁 I live alone (+2 doggos) and once a month I invite my friends over for dinner so they can escape the chaos of mom life and I have a reason to deep clean.
