Carla, I love how you present yourself with authenticity, and that is so refreshing to see on RUclips. Your self-improvement journey isn’t stumbling toward an unrealistic standard set by social media. Your authenticity is what keeps me watching and keeps me inspired. Thank you!
I don’t want this to sound awful. You’re an inspiration for me because you and your apartment are REAL. I’ve said this before. You’re not in some really nice, fancy, expensive, staged home. I appreciate this and you.
I love how down to earth you are. So many of these types of videos it seems to be all about a tonne of make up, hair done, perfect rooms and big smiley ‘look at me’. They come across as so false. Love how grounded you are and keeping it real xxx
OMG, Samson is so smart! Giving you the side-eye! Your living room looks great! I really like the yellow/white decor piece you have on the coffee table. It brings in your TV console. You are so right about having less inventory allowing you to keep your space more tidy. When I look around my place, I enjoy the “negative space“ as much as the space that has things in it. ❤️
thanks susan!! yes i want more negative space, it's so important in design and calming. Eventually will sell console table but letting it be for now. thanks for watching😊❤️
I really enjoy watching your video's. They're fun, calming and I really like the kind and appreciative attitude you have towards decluttering and improving your home and yourself. I hope you post more in the future!
Looks great! A trick I learned years ago for cleaning area rugs: after you vacuum, turn the rug over and vacuum the backside. Keep turning it back and forth, vacuuming each side, until there’s no dust coming out on the floor under it. This will help lengthen the time between shampoos.
That's the best part of decluttering is that it is easier to clean and maintain the room. Also, this gives room for changing decor if wanted. I am always taking some small bag of items to the thrift store and don't miss any of it.
I put my tote bag & keys in my bedroom for safety reasons. My everyday shoes is in the Living Room under the coffee table becuz that’s where I sit on the couch before heading out. My place is small as well 😊 Good job 👏🏼 👏🏼
Carla, i love your progress!!! I would love to see a fiddle leaf fig tree in the corner of your living room! They’re very easy to care for and it looks like you get plenty of natural light to keep it happy! House plants are a game changer! Love you girl!
Awesome job! For the shoes, you can get a shoe cabinet from IKEA -they have a few different versions. That way the shoes can be hidden in the cabinet and not create clutter by the door. They have a top to them so a great place to have a home for your keys and purse also.
You didn't see that rug getting any cleaner as you shampooed it, but I did! Well done, that was a lot of work. You're quite right about the position of the sofa. What a great job you've done on this living room! You must feel really proud of yourself. I'm quite a lot behind you in getting things decluttered and cleaned the way I want them, but I'll get there. In the mean time, your progress is encouraging to me so keep it up! :-D Greetings to Samson as well. I laughed when you sent him to his own bed!
Carpets and rugs can never get totally cleaned :( wooden floors for the win! I just want to say you do decluttering videos so well, and I love how you explain your thought process. Some people only speed themselves up and it's so boring.
Fewer things means easier to clean up, I agree. I need to follow your method. I think you have the best method, taking everything out of the room! And then your next method of looking at one thing at a time and making a decision about that one thing is perfect. I get overwhelmed by looking at the mass of things.
Carla, try a plant in the empty corner of the living room, like a tree type plant that would look awsome, some plants around the house always make it better
I just started watching your channel recently and love it. I realize that this video is a couple of years old but still I wanted to say that your living room didn’t even seem like it needed decluttering. To me it already seemed so minimalist and nice. I’m sure it felt great to clean it and go through everything to make sure you are only keeping things you really love or need, but I can’t even imagine having so few items out 🤩
And I have to agree with you about dropping stuff off to donate. Taking it downstairs and getting in the car, and THEN getting it to the thrift store can be such a struggle. lol.
Hi Carla Loving your decluttering journey and the amazing progress you’ve made. Couple if suggestions but feel free to completely ignore: 1) if it fits, have you tried rotating your rug horizontally so it sits under the sofa and tv unit entirely? It might ‘zone’ your living room more distinctly. You could also try keeping the rug rotation as is and sliding it more under the sofa. A bit if trial and error. 2) for the empty corner, i seem to remember you where searching for ideas in a previous video. Perhaps you landed on an outcome but if not, maybe a small table and couple of chairs could work. You could use it for eating, reading, diy, an alternative work space etc. Again you could ‘zone’ it with your favourite wall art. It could also to give you a different perspective of the room. Anyway just some suggestions that totally depend on your own needs and lifestyle. Do what works for you!
With the couch under the window, you should mount your tv on the wall your couch currently sits against. I think you could make it into the focal wall and draw peoples attention there instead of the entrance!
For a future thing to do, there are rug cleaning services. I live in Japan and I thought it would be really expensive, but it wasn’t. You should check it out for the future. Rugs are dirtier than you think… Definitely, start taking off your shoes when you enter the house.
Maybe an over-the-top-of-the-door shoe rack (the kind with pockets) for your front closet & back door. I understand you can cut them in half if you don't need so many pockets in one place. Very handy. Well done, you're rocking' right along!
I agree, that’s a smart dog! It’s looking good. I guess I’m in the minority when I say a little table with two chairs for eating in that empty corner would be nice. If you have a guest over one day they will have a spot to eat at. They won’t have to sit on the couch and eat…..you could even put up some “kitchen” art on that wall to make it more of an eating space. Maybe, Perisian black and white cafe photos. Something simple
i agree about a little table alison! i had a dining table there before but it was too big. thinking i will do a bistro table with two chairs there after i'm done decluttering rest of house. thx!
That basket would be cute for a place to throw shoes. I can’t remember what they are called but I bought one for a friend awhile back I love those baskets.
Check the width of the space between the doorframe and the couch, then you could pick up a short bookcase to sit there. You could use the shelves for shoes in a basket or 2, and then use the top of it like an end table.
Fantastic job! Well done! I find it super relatable because I've also recently got rid of my Lack tables 😀 don't know what it is about them, they do the job and they're cheap, but something about their style rubs me the wrong way. Also, I laughed so hard when Samson got off the rug, it's like he understands what you're saying 🤣
they are so cheap and i thought i would use it when i sell my console but it is the wrong height as a tv stand...almost was regretting getting rid of it bc thought maybe i could use it in my bedroom closet but it was the right decision for now. 😂❤️
You inspired me so I just cleaned out my junk drawer in the kitchen and my bedroom. I wouldn’t say I have a messy home but some things just get cluttered up and it feels so good to throw things away and put things in place again 🤍 And no shoes in the house is so much better. Ever since I moved out almost two years ago I have the no shoe rule. All my guests know and if someone is new I’ll ask them to bring extra socks or slippers if they get cold feet fast haha
Love your videos and how you keep it all real. One maybe crazy idea is you could totally just swap your bedroom and your living room if making the couch work in the space isn’t coming together quite right.
Hi Carla! I love your videos! I'm a professional organizer. Keep at it lady! I wanted to mention to you that a perfect storage solution for your keepsake items is something I call a memory bin. You can get a clear plastic bin 66 qt or smaller at Target for like $8. Anything you don't want to display but is sentimental to you and worth storing you can put in the bin! Hope this helps! Happy holidays!
Wow! It looks amazing. I so feel what you are talking about with the "tipping point" in decluttering. Your pup is awesome too-oh do I know the doggy side eye!! Thanks for inspiring this Seattle girl!
Have you tried the sofa with the left side against the back wall, and the right side coming out into the room? Might sound a bit strange, but you still have a clear walkway into the corridor and when you sit down you will have your back to the rest of the apartment and only see window. Plus you could have your TV in the left corner on an angle which would cut out glare.
Really interesting to hear about the things in the box as you were decluttering. Thanks for sharing. I have a suspicion Samson will be back on the rug before you know it 🥸
Hey Carla, I’m a new subscriber. I know I’m late but I think the sofa is a good size for the room. If the furniture is too small it makes it look cheap. Now that lime green table hum….Can’t wait to see more from you.
Hi Carla! Sharing my living room thoughts; you could keep your couch where it is and put your TV on a console I'm the corner between your bedroom and kitchen door (i think where you've ended up putting your desk). Also Alexandra Gater did a recent video building a cute diy cover for those air vents that still allows it to be used!!!
It looks incredible. I noticed the same thing after decluttering. Our home is tidy more often than not and since there’s less stuff to pick up, I can spend time cleaning and keeping stuff actually clean. Which is wonderful. I don’t feel like I’m wasting my time as much as I used to, and I also feel like I have more chill time as well. I can remember spending all day Saturday and Sunday cleaning the house while my husband plays with the kids since he works all week. Now we can go out and do stuff together as a family. What a concept! Have leas stuff = having more time for life!
I lurve free stuff! Now I find other people who like free stuff and give all my stuff to them lol! I really liked the sofa when you turned it towards the window in Vid1. Yes it cut the room but made half the room a cosy living room and then extended the hallway and made it a throughway - which gave you another room. That corner with the small white table could become a feature storage corner?
I have a big clear plastic tub for my keepsakes that I do not want out on display, It keeps them safe and clean, and they are easily accessible if I want to look at them.
Off topic comment... I saw a woman in the background of a scene in a Christmas movie today and she reminded me of you, Carla. I got so excited to tell you, like you are my IRL friend, and then remembered you don't even know me, LOL! Thanks for another great video! Your living room looks great!
Really good video, and it looks great. Love your process and sharing..and Samson! I will bet that you could find a canvas and paint yourself a large, simple, cool abstract piece of art vor that blank wall over the sofa 😊🤩
So tidy! I need to clean a rug but instead I’ve put it away, haha. You are so good cleaning yours. I tried having blank walls lasted about a week and now every wall in our living room has a picture or something on it, I’m a maximalist, where you drop stuff to goodwill I shop goodwill. Great video as always, maybe today I clean the rug. Thank you and Hi from New Zealand.
One thing I’ve implemented with free or cheap stuff is that I Ask myself if I would have paid for the item? If no, then it’s a no thank you. Your Livingroom looks great! 🌟
Late suggestion: I keep my coins in a recycled flip top gum dispenser in the door pocket in my car, that way it is always handy for drive thru purchases etc...Also, just saw in one of your other videos how you struggle with power cords everywhere, I have no solutions for that...they are the bane of my life also, just wanted to share your pain!😆 Love your videos, I'm bingeing! ❤
What do you do with family photos/travel photos. Since nothing is on the walls? Digital album?/tv slide. I feel like You and Samson should do a fall vibes photo shoot haha
Carla, your home is awesome! I love the simplicity. The space you have. Your couch is very lovely and i personally really like it. Great job on your rug. Amazing how much stuff can be held by carpet. Friends of mine only have one room carpeted in their home because they hate the thought of what carpets hide, no matter how often you vacuum. Samson😍😍😍😍😍😍. My word he is gorgeous! I love that he did what he was told while letting you know he was not pleased lol! I have soooooo much decluttering to do. I've worked on my closet many many times over the years. This year I've done it 3 times! My sitting room, my spare room, my garage...😥😥😥😥. Love your videos so keep em coming Sweetie! Kisses to Samson!
I knew it was only a matter of time till I saw those stickers bite the dust. Samson looked so cute in all the shots. He obviously needs his own channel.
Amazed about your progress, you are doing so well and you radiate this positive peaceful energy 🤗 Your space looks really nice...just wanna share my thoughts: I would paint the yellow TV console in a neutral colour, that fit to the rug and sofa (nature white, grey or brown), and I would order a shoe cabinet from Ikea, they have really small ones that fit everywhere and store a lot of shoes vertically...
Amazing room! How beautiful your space is! You are incredible. Someone may have already said this, but in regard to NO SHOES in the house: I've lived in studio apartments for several years now with two pets and a partner. We implemented no shoes in the house a while ago to help with tracking dirt. Two things really help. 1) SLIPPERS!! We both love having cute, comfy, inside-only slippers. This little trick makes you want to switch out your shoes for your inside feet heaven. Just be sure to leave your slippers at the door you leave out of so that they will be there to greet your feet on your way back in. 2) A SHOE RACK. I know you were on the fence about a shoe rack, but these are so amazing. I suggest you declutter your shoes, and then organize them into two categories. One for everyday use (you know, the ones you actually wear all the time), and then the other category is special occasion. Leave your special occasion shoes in your bedroom or stored away where they don't get in the way of your everyday use items. For the shoes that you wear all the time, they go on the rack ;) The more you put your shoes on your cute rack the more satisfaction you will feel when you put them on the rack, and the more you will feel strange putting them in random spots around the house. Cheers! Great content!
This is so incredibly helpful! I love how you separated the daily wear shoes from the special occasion shoes. And make sure to have the slippers near the door. I have two entrances and I use both so that does get a little tricky but I do have an idea for solving that. Thank you so much!
Fun cleaning with you! So true about actually driving to donate is the hardest part. My trunk is always full because I’m waiting to donate til I have more stuff because I dread going 😂. Samson knowing you mean go to his bed and his faces are adorable. Satisfying to see that dirty rug water!
Rug looks great. I love your hat I have one just like it, it's my garden hat. Oh yours is a visor cool. I really want to get to where you are, mine is just so much crap!
@@TheCarlaProject I hope so thank you for the encouraging reply back usually no one ever reply back. That makes you my #1, or no I'm your #1 fan. I'm keepin watching for inspiration thanks again.
I love your videos Carla! As for that one corner you were struggling what to do with, I think a nice floor plant would be perfect! It would anchor that corner and fill it with something life-giving and green. It would oxygenate your space and even if you're not good at taking care of plants, there are a lot of larger ones that basically take care of themselves (a monstera, some palms, bird of paradise, etc). And having something in that corner might stop you from feeling the need to fill it with additional furniture or storage solutions that might make the space feel tight? Obviously it's your space and up to you, but I saw that corner and had to suggest a plant, it just seemed to inspire me! Much love! ❤
I really love your videos! Yes definitely having fewer things and everything you have has a home makes keeping a clean and tidy home much easier. Even with a family of three I also discovered the same peace and resulting tidiness. Goodluck on your journey.
Hi Carla. Just a note of thanks for sharing your videos and to let you know that I have decluttered so much junk (JUNK!) from my home on the past couple of weeks - your videos were the inspiration. I cannot believe I hold onto junk for so long and let it annoy me for years 🙄🙄🙄. Decluttering is where it’s at!
Great Job! Yet another fabulous upload. I haven't worn shoes inside my homes since I moved out of my parent's home 🤣, so can definitely attest to the longer life of carpeting and area rugs when shoes aren't being worn inside the home...You've done an excellent job with decluttering and redefining spaces inside your apartment. Thanks for sharing your progress.
Was waaaiiting on this video. 😁 Yes, it is the small improvements we make and little habit changes that set you up for better success! Thank you, C. ❤️❤️❤️
Ms. Carla:The living room looks warm and inviting. You are really making the apartment in the city into a cozy haven or sanctuary away from the busyness of the city. I find your videos encouraging and serene. Thank you for inviting this stranger into your home. You are giving me inspiration! Hope you and Samson had a wonderful Thanksgiving. Please give handsome Samson a hug and pets for me.❤💖
Carla, I love how you present yourself with authenticity, and that is so refreshing to see on RUclips. Your self-improvement journey isn’t stumbling toward an unrealistic standard set by social media. Your authenticity is what keeps me watching and keeps me inspired. Thank you!
so appreciated thank you!!

I agree! Perfectly stated!
Yesss perfectly put
I don’t want this to sound awful.
You’re an inspiration for me because you and your apartment are REAL. I’ve said this before.
You’re not in some really nice, fancy, expensive, staged home.
I appreciate this and you.
i appreciate this comment more than you know!!
Just said more or less the same. Carla is so refreshing!
I love how down to earth you are. So many of these types of videos it seems to be all about a tonne of make up, hair done, perfect rooms and big smiley ‘look at me’. They come across as so false. Love how grounded you are and keeping it real xxx
thank you soooo much for watching!! ❤️❤️
I actually like the oversized sofa. It looks very comfy and fills the room nicely.
Yes it's really a nice couch. Carla has great taste .
OMG, Samson is so smart! Giving you the side-eye! Your living room looks great! I really like the yellow/white decor piece you have on the coffee table. It brings in your TV console. Great idea . I also use oxyclean on it too. Works great
Great tip+
Right. The upside-down thing I do too.
genius... thank you for that!

I've said this before and I'll say it again... your voice is SO soothing. Would definitely listen to you do a guided meditation, lol.
thanks chantal maybe i will do a guided clear the clutter meditation one day lol
That's the best part of decluttering is that it is easier to clean and maintain the room. Also, this gives room for changing decor if wanted. I am always taking some small bag of items to the thrift store and don't miss any of it.

Yes I was thinking a nice big plant in that corner too 😍
i had a fiddle in my bedroom ages ago and she died :( i may have to go the artificial route but stay tuned :)
In this apartment you can feel warmth and coziness. I like it.

True. And they are not deep. (Is that the right term?)
Only 20cm from the wall or so.
that's what i'm thinking!!

oh i will have to check her channel thanks for heads up!
Can't wait for the bedroom closet clear out!!
Living room looks relaxed and spacious now. I can smell how fresh it is🙂
Me too!! thank you for watching!! ❤️❤️
Have leas stuff = having more time for life!
so much more free time i love it !!
Looking so fresh and clean! It's amazing how "less is more" when you declutter, and keeping places tidy becomes so much easier.
So true!
Loved the living room videos, great job! You’ve shown that you don’t need new stuff to transform your space 💛
this is true!! thanks love!
That corner with the small white table could become a feature storage corner?
lol it is the best giving my stuff to friends and seeing them using them!
I have a big clear plastic tub for my keepsakes that I do not want out on display, It keeps them safe and clean, and they are easily accessible if I want to look at them.
basket survived. now in my kitchen not sure what i'll do with it next...😄
Off topic comment... I saw a woman in the background of a scene in a Christmas movie today and she reminded me of you, Carla. I got so excited to tell you, like you are my IRL friend, and then remembered you don't even know me, LOL!
Thanks for another great video! Your living room looks great!
😂😂😂 I LOVE IT!!!
Thank you and Hi from New Zealand.
hahaha i am a little bit of both and love thrifting for gems too...especially when i travel!
I have wall to wallets so bad after 30yrs & 2 kids. It's coming out this winter & I am psyched
cleaned out my parents home in 2019...50 years and 4 kids. it took time but got it done and was worth it.
A beautiful DIY dyed macrame wall hanging above the sofa would be lovely
One thing I’ve implemented with free or cheap stuff is that I Ask myself if I would have paid for the item? If no, then it’s a no thank you. Your Livingroom looks great! 🌟
Great tip!!thank you!❤️
Late suggestion: I keep my coins in a recycled flip top gum dispenser in the door pocket in my car, that way it is always handy for drive thru purchases etc...Also, just saw in one of your other videos how you struggle with power cords everywhere, I have no solutions for that...they are the bane of my life also, just wanted to share your pain!😆 Love your videos, I'm bingeing! ❤
Lol thank you for commiserating it’s the worst 😂
What do you do with family photos/travel photos. Since nothing is on the walls? Digital album?/tv slide. I feel like You and Samson should do a fall vibes photo shoot haha
oh my gosh we should hahaha. I need to add photos to the walls. I just get overwhelmed with printing and framing but it is on the list! xo
Kisses to Samson!
thank you soooo much!! closets are tough and a work in progress. bracing myself to start on mine!!
Loving Samson’s miffed face. I’m assuming he had a nice nap on that carpet when you left...
🤣 you know it!!
I knew it was only a matter of time till I saw those stickers bite the dust. Samson looked so cute in all the shots. He obviously needs his own channel.
4:05 Like a squirrel!! 😄
Lovely video again, take care 😍♥️
thanks love!
It looks so clean and calm. You did a great job! Greetings from Bosnia! Love, Vesna :)
hi vesna!! thanks for watching from bosnia😍
You are doing so good, I can hear the difference in your voice and puppy is intelligent!! 💜
You are so kind
I love your personality and always look forward to your videos. Also, Samson is so cute and smart and such a good companion! Thank you 😊
Thank you so much for watching!!
Amazed about your progress, you are doing so well and you radiate this positive peaceful energy 🤗 Your space looks really nice...just wanna share my thoughts: I would paint the yellow TV console in a neutral colour, that fit to the rug and sofa (nature white, grey or brown), and I would order a shoe cabinet from Ikea, they have really small ones that fit everywhere and store a lot of shoes vertically...
planning on ikea shoe cabinet yes thank you!! oh and plan on selling the console pretty soon! :)
We love you too!
❤❤❤❤❤
It look good
I gave pillows and blankets to local animal shelters who request that sort of thing. That was my alternative to human donation locations
I love it!
thanks carla! :)
Rug looks great. I love your hat I have one just like it, it's my garden hat. Oh yours is a visor cool. I really want to get to where you are, mine is just so much crap!
you'll get there!!
Much love! ❤
I love that suggestion!! If I can get a plant that would thrive in that corner in a nice pot would be lovely!!
Amazing job! It looks so calm and serene.... also, I'm here for the Samson content - he's so cute and curious!
he has a lot going on in there..so smart!❤️
I really love your videos! Yes definitely having fewer things and everything you have has a home makes keeping a clean and tidy home much easier. Even with a family of three I also discovered the same peace and resulting tidiness. Goodluck on your journey.
thank you regina well said!!xx
Hi Carla. Just a note of thanks for sharing your videos and to let you know that I have decluttered so much junk (JUNK!) from my home on the past couple of weeks - your videos were the inspiration. I cannot believe I hold onto junk for so long and let it annoy me for years 🙄🙄🙄. Decluttering is where it’s at!
i'm soooo happy for you!! thank you for sharing that...never too late and it feels awesome right!!❤️
Thank you!! 😊
Somehow I missed part one. Zip back to watch first. It looks so neat. I have house shoes or go barefoot in the house.
Good call!thank you!❤️
Was waaaiiting on this video. 😁 Yes, it is the small improvements we make and little habit changes that set you up for better success! Thank you, C. ❤️❤️❤️
So true!thank you!❤️
Please give handsome Samson a hug and pets for me.❤💖
thank you sooo much!! happy to hear it inspires you too...samson sends his love right back. he lives for pets!!❤️
