  • I've been using the Asus Zenfone 9 for well over 30 days and it's hands down my favorite phone out right now, it's also still in my pocket and likely will be until the Zenfone 10 launches. It comes with all the latest high end hardware specs that you'll find in the bigger premium flagship phones but in a smaller package. I don't know how Asus did it, but this is THE small phone to get, especially if you're looking at the Samsung Galaxy S22.

It's ashame Asus only commited 2 years of OS upgrade on their flagship phones. Add another year on their OS upgrade policy plus 4 years of security updates and I won't be looking somewhere else for sure.

@@dirremoire nope, this phone was launched with android 12, now we got android 13 so you only have 1 left major OS update next years, that means after next year this phone already outdated, nowadays smartphone already reached at peak of their development and design so you won't see any major improvement/innovation for the past few years now instead of just some minor increase in camera megapixel count, charging speed, battery capacity etc

I am still using my S10e and while I would really love the to keep the side fingerprint reader, this phone is longer (just as long as the S22, but with more bezels and with a screen basically the size of the S10e) and has only 2 years of support (and maybe 1 more year of security, maybe...). Meantime the camera is not great in low light. I'll be waiting to see how the S23 is doing with battery life and camera, but if it's not good enough I'll try to make my S10e last until the S24 or maybe the zenfone 10...

I'm on a galaxy S8 and I have been tempted by the zenfone 9 the past 2 months, and if the second sim slot was interchangeaeble with a micro SD card I probably would order one now. Another phone that almost got me is the Sony Xperia 5 IV which has a micro SD Card reader, a 5000mAh battery, a beautiful screen without a notch, good camera software and even DisplayOut through USB-C(something that the Zenfone 9 lacks). However, the Xperia 5 IV has overheating issues after 1 minute of camera usage, and its SoC is the less power efficient Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, which may not be an issue for the 5000 mAh battery but causes the performance to drop to an half after a minute. If the Sony Xperia had the 8+ Gen 1 SoC(like the Zenfone 9) or if the Zenfone 9 had and SD card reader(like the Xperia) I would have bought one of the two but I guess I'll wait and see what the Galaxy S23 will have to offer, hoping the compact S23 will have better battery life and more storage than its predecessor. Camera wise all these phones are great but the Zenfone is inconsistent and the Xperia lacks a night mode

Go for it, vote with your wallet, I am personally buying the zenfone 9 to replace my sony Xperia 5 (og) in hope that by the time it is old, Sony pulls their sh..t together and fixes all the problems that I had on the 5 (og) and are still on the 4th generation. eg: supper dim flashlight (seriusly, my smart watch display shines brighter, flash is quite bright, but they dim the led for constant lighting) overheating while filming, buggy software without fancy features (sometimes lacks even stock android ones)... The main selling points are still excellent, i love the design, cameras are no "BS", speakers are good, display is excellent...
The zenfone 9 is probably just a better smartphone experience than 5IV
If you want the Sony, just buy 5 III which has better telephoto camera, and is cheaper

Would anyone recommend switching from the Pixel 6 to this? I love the photos and battery life, but aside from that this huge brick gave me a lot of frustration, and I can't properly type on it because it's touchscreen seems way too sensitive (extra sensitiv disabled) and interprets false taps everywhere. I'm holding off because purchasing a new phone just half an year later and the fear of having another experience full of software issues keep away from high investments now.
