"Not nearly as long as Daniel..." LOL Vallery is such a cool chef, I think this is the first time I've seen her. She's fantastic! And Daniel is always so fun in these.
Oh, Chef Vallery is lovely! Her baking is awesome, her explanations are clear and concise, and she's so nice! I really like when the pros are genuine and kind with their home cook counterparts.
I liked the ice cream substitute for heavy cream in the caramel. I may have real ice cream in the house, I won't have heavy cream unless I buy it specifically.
Fruit in a grilled cheese sandwich guy doesn’t have cheese in his fruit pie. Somewhat disappointed, especially since apple & cheese do compliment each other.
This woman just changed my pie game she is amazing omg. This humble man is also talented look at him use her expert teaching techniques like a champ. Brilliant.
PSA: It's worth buying actual vanilla pods at least once. Even after you've scraped out the marrow, you can still get a lot of mileage out of them. For instance, if you just leave the pods in a little box with sugar, you'll eventually end up with proper vanilla sugar which is way better than the artificially flavoured junk you get at the grovery store.
And once you've completely used up the beans and extracted every last bit of flavour from it, you can grind up the beans into still rich tasting vanilla powder =)
Yes! I recently started watching this channel and noticed in the brownie episode that the pro chef added/substituted quite a lot. It seemed to defeat the purpose of the video.
Something I realized is that for the cheap set of ingredients, they only price out the amount called for in the recipe, like if you only use a few scoops of ice cream they price it at $1 or something, but for the expensive set of ingredients they price out everything. When you see people leaving comments like "$150 for a taco? Outrageous!" it's more like $150 for a taco and half a pantry full of ingredients. I get that they do it for the clickbait, but the reality for most of these videos is that the expensive ingredients are probably 2 or 3 times as expensive as the cheap ones, not 10 or 20 times more expensive. It's super misleading and discourages people from experimenting with nice ingredients at home.
Something I realised & noticed too, especially after seeing this video... $161 for an apple pie?! Definitely not that price if you only use the portion you need to make this apple pie
Vallery is such a lovely lady. I mean, she breaks down everything in layman's term, so my pedestrain brain could take it in. She's not intimidating, and she really seems down to Earth.
I love how they share the recipe to the home cooks instead of leaving them hanging with all those expensive items. It’s nice to know that no ingredient is wasted. Plus it gives them new skills, which is really entertaining to watch!
Great fun video. REALLY enjoyed Vallery with her upbeat tone and commentary, could learn something from the way she describes everything. Daniel is really quite a good cook. I love the new ending (of course, not possible earlier).
I love this series so much, it really shows how experienced and knowledgeable professional chefs are. I'm always so surprised at all the unique uses the professional chefs have on everyday ingredients. In addition, watching the home cooks have the time of their lives making things for the first time is always such a delight.
Loved this episode, loved the vibe and the new pro chef Vallery! And, most of all, both those wonderful pies, so interesting to see two variations so different to the theme, I'm really going to try them both. (I even have both real vanilla and Calvados in my pantry, I feel rich now! :)
Idea: Pro Chefs make other country or regional cuisine, stuff they aren't used to making. For example Saul making Sushi. I'm sure in culinary school they learn to make stuff from other countries, but once they're in their own restaurants and whatnot, they only focus on what they serve at their restaurant and what they grew up making, which in this case Saul and Mexican food. The chefs would have little to no help, with *maybe* a phone call to Rose. thoughts?
i’d love to see chefs making their take on country cuisine, while competing with a country chef that knows how to make it the traditional way. let’s say saul making tamales o gallina pinta vs frank and his take on the same plate. thoughts?
Here in Germany they have some episodes in a show, where a foreign chef gets a cooked meal by a German chef and has to reproduce it on taste only. It mostly does turn out differently, but the German chef that's taste testing often likes the result as well and both chefs are able to talk about the experience and so on after. It's really interesting. So, yeah, I'd like to see Frank, Saul and Co. try foreign dishes, maybe pick the ingredients that they think are needed for the recipe. Would be fun :)
Saul on sushi? Fish burrito incoming. nah seriously: That sounds interesting but I would rather have them make 2 takes on that once a close to "original" and one with there own twist on it someone like Saul proably finds a good combination of mexico and japan
I'll never never neverrrrrr get tired of these videos. So incredible and wholesome. I adore the cast so much. Shout out to the crew and all the people behind the scenes. Epicurious, I love you
You have seen Ketchup girl Emily, Salt master Frank, Alcoholic Penny, Chilie flake enthusiast Lorenzo. Now get ready for: *Peanutbutter* *guy* *Daniel*
I loved it so much😍😍 Great recipes and is beautifully done. Daniel is my favourite as always, he is the best; and Chef Vallery seems so sweet and talented; she made everything from what she had without adding anything extra and explained everything so sweetly. Hope to see both Daniel and Chef Vallery together in more videos Alsooooo, they actually added that SpongeBob SquarePants "14 hours later" with Daniel's voice over 🤣🤣🤣 that was awesome😂😂👏👏
I made a spatchcock turkey because of this video. It was literally the BEST turkey my family has ever tasted. There was practically nothing left. Thank you Chef Bill for the tips!😍
What a delicious apple 🍎 🍏 recipe! Your clear presentation makes it look so easy to make! I think I’m gonna give this recipe a try and just make a few modifications to fit my families dietary needs/restrictions. I appreciate you sharing your talent with us. I make cooking videos too and I appreciate being able to learn from other amazing creators like you. I hope we can learn from each other as we grow our channels! I look forward to watching new videos👍🏻👍🏻
I absolutely love this series.❤ I was trying to re-create the $9 dollar pie but I had to eye ball majority of the ingredients and also the cooking time is no where to be found😅. I hope my pie turns out okay. Lol I’ll keep you guys posted.
I'm always impressed by how many other sensory cues help you to know that your recipe's gonna taste good throughout the process. IE In this one, the crunch of the pie crust, the smell of the salted caramel, or the the way buttery dough can be smooshed together
$14.49 for apple cider vinegar? My grocery store charges about $6 for a national brand and $3 for store brand. On the flip side, I wonder how they found a pint of Haagen-Dasz for just $1. It normally goes for $4 or 5 where I am.
I think they inconsistently priced the ingredients, they list $15 for apple cider vinegar because that’s the price for the whole bottle, and the $1 for Haagen daas isn’t the price of the whole pint, but the amount they actually put on the dish. Super annoying they reported it that way bc it’s inconsistent but they can make the price different more drastic for the clickbait 🙄
I thought the same about the icecream, because in germany we pay 5 for half of the bucket on sale. It's clear that they manipulate the price for sensation, but the cooking is still funny.
some people go extra... Frank is extra on the salt, Emily is extra on the Ketchup (to be fair she is improving lol), and then there is this woman who make cakes and sweets in her alcohol dish :P
Yeah there is no chance that the Haagen Dazs vanilla ice cream costs just $1. No way in hell, why would you try to make it that way so that the recipe is below $10? Just hurts the integrity I’d say
I agree. Initially I thought maybe they’re pricing it as produce used, rather than whole item/package because one egg could be 49c, but then they’ve got the Calvados costing $49.99, and I don’t think a glug of ANY shop bought Calvados would work out to be that much. It’s like those graphs on the news that distort the figures to appear more controversial/newsworthy. And it’s insulting to expect us viewers not to notice the glaring discrepancy.
Totally agree. And some cost analysis are calculated by cost of amount used, but that's never been the case with this series. It was larger than a pint, and Häagen-Dazs is not cheap
Outside of the Calvados the ingredients from the pro-chef are very affordable, especially if apples are in season. I'd always include lemon peel in an apple pie. It's such a difference to the quality and it's barely an extra $1.
You should change the prices to reflect the actual cost of the pie and not include the cost of unfinished ingredients. I could buy an industrial quantity of flour, make a loaf of bread, and with your logic, it is a $500 loaf of bread.
so i priced it out... You can get grade A vanilla beans from Sullivan Street Spices in NYC for $6 each (which is still on the high end), so the suggested price of $26 is massively exaggerated for the 2 beans that they used. Pricing the beans at $6ea, and being generous in the quantities used (including Calvados shots for both hosts at the end), the expensive pie would actually come in closer to $48, NOT $161
It's genuinely just for the title lol, if people see 100$+ they will become even more interested and watch it nothing else. That is basically how everything works on youtube, noone is going to use the actual price for the amount they used.
The taste test is the absolute most important part of this show. The other chef needs to taste and evaluate just how well it was made. The only thing that would make it better is a blind taste test.
Okay, we've all been complaining about the pro chefs not playing by the rules with all their little substitutions and additions to the plain ingredients they were given... so EXTRA PROPS to Chef Vallery for actually MELTING ICE CREAM to use in place of heavy cream in her caramel sauce, and for kludging together her own cinnamon ice cream.
Is it just me, or are the total prices always off? $1.00 for a pint of Haagen-Daaz? Maybe the portion used was only $1. But, it’s not like he’s using the full bottle of Calvados, right?
I'm surprised they didn't have Daniel use the alcohol in the pie crust as an anti-gluten cheat -- I guess the vinegar serves a similar purpose but still.
Daniel is such an icon ngl "I don't know how the french pronounce... Anything" as someone who failed french, same "Put some of this in my coffee" you go, get that coffee all nice! I really hope we get to see him ofter, he's so nice lmao I really hope they allowed him to keep the Calvados cause my man was in LOVE with it
This gal would be a blast to work with, I'm a home baker myself, have been working on pie crusts and now I have some more tips to improve my craft! (I also love experimenting with flavored brandies, liquers, etc. in my cooking)
I love this series BUUUUTTTTT……. Where are y’all shopping for Daniel’s individual ingredients to be that cheap because I’ve been shopping at the wrong store!?!?!?!?!?!?!

Please, bring Vallery into the show more often, she is very charismatic and a GREAT teacher!!!!
Seriously, it was like watching two of the happiest people on earth just enjoying themselves.
4 levels would be better
This pro chef gets a thumbs up from us. She did a lot of good improvs and new combos. Satisfied
She also explains her steps so clearly and precisely! She is an excellent teacher!
I really like the Pro. She seems like a teacher telling a class how to make it.
Oh, Chef Vallery is lovely! Her baking is awesome, her explanations are clear and concise, and she's so nice! I really like when the pros are genuine and kind with their home cook counterparts.
That's the best upgrade to cheap ingredients I've ever seen. Vallery explained it well enough for me to do it too!! thank you!!
Ikr, she did an amazing job🙌🏾
I liked the ice cream substitute for heavy cream in the caramel. I may have real ice cream in the house, I won't have heavy cream unless I buy it specifically.
First time Daniel has fruit in his recipe and it's not strange
Fruit in a grilled cheese sandwich guy doesn’t have cheese in his fruit pie. Somewhat disappointed, especially since apple & cheese do compliment each other.
@@tcgtpl and in some parts of the country a slide of cheddar cheese in the pie is pretty common
And he didn't include peanut butter either!

And nutmeg. Pregrated loses its smells/oils in minutes. It's actually way way cheaper than they posted here, and lasts forever.
Ooo thank you
Daniel embracing that salt n pepper look and I’m HERE for it he looks great!
Vallery has such simple but detailed instructions !! I feel like I can make an apple pie just by listening to her 🙏
This is an amazing level 3 chef, please bring her more often!
Vallery seems to be one of those fantastic human beings that lighten up the room with their presence like a rare gem. More videos with her.
I have no idea where they bought Daniel's ingredients, but there is no way that was only $9
Right!
Häagen-Dazs is definitely not $1. I was so confused lol
What's odd is that the video's thumbnail has it listed as $13, which seems right. Must have been some sort of miscommunication at some point.
Myaby its converted to the amount used. You defineyou will definitely not use whole bag of flour or whole calvados
1 egg is not 49 cents in my large city. That is just under $6 for a carton of 12 eggs!
Daniel is so cute and Valerie seems to be the sweetest. Loved this episode!!
Apple pie is delicious no matter if it’s hot or cold outside especially with some vanilla ice cream
What about warm?
