$264 vs $16 Lasagna: Pro Chef & Home Cook Swap Ingredients | Epicurious

- Опубликовано: 15 май 2024
- Pro chef Rawlston Williams from The Food Sermon and home cook Gabrielle are swapping ingredients and hoping for the best! We set Gabrielle up with all of the supplies she’d need to conjure up Chef Rawlston’s extremely pricey $264 lasagna, while sending her more modest $16 worth of ingredients back the other direction. While Rawlston was using his skills and experience to elevate Gabi’s lasagna recipe, food scientist Rose dialed in to assist our home cook along her way. Watch and find out whose lasagna comes out on top.

Imagine a Pro vs Pro. They swap ingredients and see what they make differently from their original ideas
Frank vs Frank
That sounds interesting actually, would like to see it!
So would that be Pvp
Yessssssss! Epicurious, listen to this.
We have plenty of shows like that already
Having two people who are lactose intolerant make a Lasagna is ..... bold
It really is
And I love that Gabi knew that and probably vice-versa. Lactose intolerant people looking out for one another.
Idk why I think this is funny. Probably because of the irony
Just replace the 🐄 with 🐐.
What's the name of the pill, please, I couldn't understand it...
With a name like Rosemary Trout, she wasn’t destined to be anything other than a food scientist 😂
ikr

Is that a prayer mat on an empty field in your pfp?
@@a-birb yup

Rawlson got lost and laughed hard when he heard "good job spatchy" 😂
Hello there
I would actually like to see a chef finally make his $200+ recipe. I think we would learn an awful lot from that too
That’s kind of what 4 levels is about
Frank has his own channel, you should check it out!!
@@FrancesBaconandEggs they normally don't make the stuff that expensive. They keep it within reason, e.g. no truffel or a complete leg of lamb
@@miserychick2602 I already do. But also there he does not really cook these unusual ingredients
Hello Patrick?
A pro chef that doesn’t use their own ingredients and actually uses technique to elevate basic ingredients? Legendary.
I think that The last episode was The same
Looks to me like Epicurious is actually listening to the criticism and making changes!
Yeah
Is it though? Being able to elevate basic ingredients is expected... It's the difference between an actual expert chef and a charlatan.
@@hypothalapotamus5293 you may be right, but the main reason of this comment is not using outside ingredients, just sticking to what is listed on home chef recipe
Bring him back! He's so talented, chill and lovely to listen to.
Gabi really makes these shows a ton of fun to watch. An absolute natural in front of a camera.
Rose is basically the old wise character in the start of most story based game giving you instructions.
Hahahaha yeah. The old sage!
Given how I play games, would totally ignore and get my character killed in first 10 mins
True
Haha, yes! I heart Rose.
That old man blocking my path in Viridian City XD
I really appreciate Rawlson’s commitment to using Gabi’s ingredients, and not just turning up his nose and swapping things out.
yes!!
Nobody else does that tho...
@@Enviro1 frank does sometimes
Yeah!
SAME HERE
These two are the chillest combination on this series.
I really like both of these chefs. Fun, polite, and creative!
Can we get Rawlson on an episode of 4 levels? He seems so cool and his voice is so amazing
give him 2 more episodes in the normal stuff til he develops his memes.
I mean, Gabby and her saffron, Frank and his (I made these myself) meme, Emily and Ketchup etc....
Rawlson only deviation was smoking the herbs.
Agreed
I get the feeling Rawlson could do ASMR
yes, please
Belal Abu Sultan what?
I would love to see more of Rawlson . He has such a soothing voice and great personality. Put Him on something where he can really shine and do his thing without giving up all of his ingredients please !

Rawlson is one of the most badass names I've ever heard
i have a teacher named ms, Youngblood...
I had a teacher.... that's all
I had a PE teacher called Mr Gamester and a product design teacher called Mr Stencil.
I have a principle named Wildgoose
This guy I know had a woman for a teacher with the last name Helscream lol
10:50 "I like it," the chef said unconvincingly.
Such lovely cooks in this one again! These videos are truly enamoring to watch.
So happy that they actually just used the ingredients they sent and didn't change or add any. I was getting so sick of the pro chef always adding stuff to the dish and it felt like that completely destroyed the whole purpose of the challenge. Great Job!
I don’t mind if they add small changes that could easily be supplemented in a home chef’s kitchen. Adding oil, using eggs, etc etc is usually an easy enough addition to demonstrate how to elevate the dish when on a budget.
@Ella Winter That's a good sentiment but I think that really defeats the purpose of what is happening here. You're taking the ingredients that someone else would buy with that skill level and budget and doing the most with that scenario. Given the same budget, I am sure a professional chef would purchase differently than an amateur. It isn't just the budget, it is the knowledge and skills that are behind the reasoning of the individual's purchases and process. Who knows? The amateur chef could be able to make a better dish at a lower budget because they have more knowledge when it comes to low-budget cooking. Any addition or substitution on either side ruins the relationship being studied and what makes these videos so interesting
This guy is amazing
Hello there
What about the smoked mushrooms? Is that not the chef adding to the dish?
Can you imagine, getting $264 worth of food, camera in your face and stuff you've never even done before and they ask you to make a meal? Well done Gabi and both look great meals. Entertaining video too
I would love to try this
This guy rocks, I feel the protect at all cost thing. His voice is so friendly and his attitude so chill. If I ever am able to have a chef of my own lol, I'd choose you. If you wanted to be choosen. Thank you for the video
This is really my favorite channel I cannot stop watching it it’s so satisfying and amazing keep up the good work!
Rawlson’s voice is so calming, it’s like I’m watching a Bob Ross video.
OMG you nailed it!
reminded me of Morgan Freeman
His voice reminded me of my man Dave Chappelle.
But it’s like also so lively
Chef Rawlston is amazing! I love how he did not add any crazy ingredients (apart from the smoke), yet still made an impressive recipe. His interpretation of the flavours and the ideas he brought to the table really helped elevate the fairly traditional/basic ingredients he got, which to me is the whole point of this series.
I dunno why, but it warms my heart to see people refer to chefs as "Chef ____". Like, you don't call a doctor or Chief or Lieutenant by their first name, they EARNED the chef title :)
You know he is going to add smoke some way. But when he told Gabi how it reminded him of something his mom would make made it all come together. Rawlston is a master of doing more with less.
Watching this makes me hungry. Love how both Gabi and Rawlston dealt with their respective recipes. Not much of a lasagna person, but I'd devour both of these!
we need more of this duo!! like right now!! theyre both entertaining to watch.
Frank is still on his Vacation in Italy learning from the Italian grandmas
More likely he's too white and too male and too straight. He started his own show protocooks.
@@carlsjr7975 lol relax bro
He is an Italian grandma in secret

I thought Frank was at least part Italian
I need Rawlston to release an audio book with that voice asap!
Or cooking podcast, would be so down for it
Fr 😩
I really liked both of them, please have them do more episodes.
Chef Rawlson is amazing!❤ I love his voice and overall demeanour😍
To anyone who might want to use truffle in some recipe: do NOT add it before cooking. It's a strong flavor but it's extremely delicate and cooking it will make it vanish at best, and burn it at worst. Truffles are almost exclusively shaved on top of the finished dish, any other use you *really* have to know what you're doing, otherwise you'll be wasting a very expensive product!
Chef Rawlston and spatchy are my new favorite duo!
They always have such charming home cooks on these
Both are sweet and genuine. Chef is very knowledgeable. Bring them back again!
Frank's out making his own flour for the pasta sheets
Actually he's working on a time machine to go back and be the inventor of pasta.
We were looking this comment! AMEN!!
Frank is already a "GOD" he doesn't need to make his own flour he is already making anything before the Birth of the Universe even Frank summons Gordon Ramsay
I’m surprised they didn’t make her do it 😂😂 also that they’re using bottle tomato sauce lol
No, he's actually making the time to create his own grain field and constructing his own grinder so he can make his own flour from scratch.
What a wholesome ending. Sometimes “simple” food can be so engrained in our memories that we don’t realize how attached we are to it until we eat it again much later in our lives.
That seems to be Ramsey's approach to dishes - simple food, cooked well with high quality ingredients and good presentation.
Plus you can always cheap out and get simple stuff from the supermarket at low cost
Luu.

I love the idea of rolling up the lasagna. I'm going to try that later tonight. Looks good!
Man, he is sooo chill. So easy to listen to
It was refreshing to see a swap without any additions or ommitions. It is frustrating to me when the pro swaps so many things out of the home cooks' recipe that it is unrecognizable. This is my favorite swap so far. Also the best pair. They are both so chill.

*meanwhile frank is in central asia, raising his own lamb*
yes, he is also growing his own four for the pasta sheets. :D
But first he has to learn the traditional ways of Mongolian throat singing so that he can bring his lambs to pasture

Rawlston is awesome hope to see him again
My favorite thing about Rawlston (besides his voice obvs) is that he added exactly zero new ingredients and made it happen with what he was given. We need more of this from the pros.
Hes so humble I love it
These guys are really entertaining. And the food looks delicious. Well done!
rose's really got the whole "super supportive mom" thing down and i love her 😭💞😭💞
I want to call her every morning and just have her give me a pep talk. "You've got this!"
the pro's using cheap stuff is always the best part, making the best of what you have, if you made his recipe with fresh sauce vs pre-made it would be fire
This was fun to watch good job to the chefs. It loooks tasty both of the dishes
they really should do a plate swap at the end to try each others versions of their dishes.

Hello there
We need the "pro chef with the $16 lasagna" as a standalone ep.
Gabi, Amily, Lorenzo, chef King, chef Saul and chef Rawlston are my favs. Would love to see more of them
I love how Gabbi incorporates her plant based diet into these episodes and the other ones she is on. She still makes the meaty foods that are sent her way, but she almost always sends over plant based recipes or has one and I just love seeing the representation . Plant based is delicious too!
Didn’t know pork chops and a slow cooked multiple meat based burrito would be plant based ? As she did those so don’t think she is pushing any diet in particular ?
@johnnydapunk well i didn't say that at all? If you read it again i said "incorporates" and "still makes the meaty foods".
But yeah thanks for your thought contributions 👍🏻
@@sharkbait_hoohannah your edited comment screams regret, it’s ok to be wrong as I do not care what people eat and I’m a Finnish black man and I don’t care about representation as I don’t need it as I don’t need validation but you do. Double thumbs up to you as you need it clearly 👍🏾👍🏾
