Knitting my first sweater. You are right its easy! I spent days online trying to 'decode' my pattern and then I found your brilliant tutorial! Your instructions are perfect, I understood imediately! Thanks!!
This is the best knitting tutorial I've ever watched!! I've been knitting for about 7 years and I've always been to scared to do things like this. Blankets are my specialty because they are simple. I really want to knit a sweater now because you explained it and taught it so well!! And don't worry about making a mistake, we all do. You've inspired me so thank you for that!
Thanks so much for not only the tutorial but no jarring back ground music, no over talking, just a pleasant and exciting to get started simple sweater to try, appreciate this RJ, blessings from Nashville, TN!
You explained the math well ,dear. I am a knitter of over 50 years. Knitting is simple it’s always the math that twists me in knots. I enjoy a good pattern and RUclips has been a wonderful tool huh? Thank you ✌🏻❤️
I've never knit a sweater this way before thank you for teaching me this technique and also I love how you left your mistake in the video. It no only shows us a mistake that we should avoid. It makes us see that everyone makes knitting mistakes here and there and it isn't the end of the world.
My daughter is just starting to knit so we got her a beginners kit and im watching it with her so I can tell her what you mean because she doesnt understand what you mean she only knows words that we teaches her so I tell her what you mean and she’s doing pretty good
I love learning something new everyday. Today I learned how knitting a sweater in the round is joined with the sleeves. I’ve knitted many sweaters, all in flat pieces. I now feel confident that I can make one in the round. Thanks! I’ll add a project like this to my list of Projects While Under Quarantine. 😷👏🏽
I’ve been crocheting for years with only rudimentary knitting skills. I’ve been looking to step up my game and this video has made it seem so much easier and much less scary! Thanks 💖
I wanted to knit a child sweater, but have been withholding for years until I stumbled your tutorial. It is easy to follow with your clear explanation to a new knitter like me. Thank you for sharing. 🇭🇲
Okay. Good to know you caught the mistake AFTER completing the sweater. I was almost about to shout at my phone like WTH. But in all honesty, this has been the most simplest and easy to follow sweater making video. Everything is so straight forward, as someone who is still fairly new to knitting (bout 3 years, I think), I was able to understand without questioning myself. Good job. And I do miss watching your videos tbh.
absolutley love you and ure channel , ive just decided to start knitting as a means of destressing , and ure channel has assured me that ive made the right choice , u explain everything so well and are just beyond helpful, even just watching u knit and hearing ure voice is theraputic , sending you love , thank you for ure videos .
Love this color, and love that you're so genuine and honest. Now I'm not so sensitive about my mistakes. I consider myself a beginner, and haven't made anything yet without mistakes. One thing it's doing for me is helping my learn how to fix them. Another thing is that I'm learning to live with some of my mistakes. I've made some hats, some wash cloths and scarves, so nothing crucial. lol. Now I'd like to make a sweater, and some socks, so I'm looking for some help. I'll take a look for something simpler. I'm probably not ready for this one. Helps that you show us that we all can make mistakes. Thanks for all you do.
Thank you for your sweater video. I’m actually glad you made the decrease mistake because for the first time I understand the workings of the decreases! The leaning of the decreases, and why they are necessary! Enjoyed your video! 😊
THANK YOU! I‘m desperate to learn how to knit a sweater but hesitated because the patterns always look so complicated. Most patterns for beginners connect the sleeves to a squareshaped body which I don’t like because of the optics of the seam at the side of the arms. The way you connect the sleeves to the body looks way more elegant! 😊👍
It's my 3rd day of knitting and I'm half way through the back of a cardigan! I plan to do a sweater next, I'm already hooked and so excited to knit more.
In future, I recommend sizing down a full 1-1.5mm needle for the ribbing sections. Itll make it fit much better and not stretch out overmuch. PS all knitters of sweaters have made that very same mistake, myself included. :'D I once messed up a raglan sweater's shaping multiple times before getting it right! I literally had to think back 4 times before getting it perfect..haha. my poor yarn looked fuzzy by the time I got it right. Thank you for this video. It's perfect for super new knitters.
Me too. And he explains things so well. Thank you for this fascinating new to me way to make a sweater. It's a distinct pleasure to see a man so versed and interested in the fibre arts.
This video is the first video that I've watched that's helped me so much in order to figure out how to do the final piece of my sweaters I've made it so difficult when it comes to knitting that I'm so upset that I did not see this video prior to me starting my knitting projects because I'm a natural crochet but a knitter, I am not a natural knitter however I've been doing really good and I've been doing even better now that I watched this video thank you so much. Blessings to you
This is exactly the type of tutorial i love! I have trouble with vry exact instructions and much prefer this kind of general overview so i can work it out for myself as i learn bettr that way - thank you for making my quarantine more productive!
This is a great video!!! Im no where close to knitting a sweater, I've only been knitting since January of this year, but I enjoyed watching this and I've saved it for when I am ready.
I appreciate seeing your mistake with reducing stitches. I did have that problem with 1 sock. Also, intrigued with how you knit, using left hand to hold & move yarn instead of moving whole right arm to move yarn around needle.
Lol I died when you said " A kid should be lucky to have a sweater at all". "Here kid. One arm might be a liiittle tight but hey, be happy that you have a sweater at all. Some kids only get hats! Also, it took me foreeever so TELL ME YOU LOVE IT!" AhhhLOL I'm so tired I'm being too silly. But seriously this really helped me because I never knew how bottom up sweaters were done. Not so scary now!
Thanks for this super easy guide. A reason I don't do a whole lot of knitting is that I hate strict rules and counting, I prefer to just free-hand anything I do, and this has literally been the sort of tutorial and workflow I have been looking for. The mistake you made is also useful as it helps us to avoid doing the same thing. :P Thx!
Love the honesty ... I’m still gonna try this! Thanks for the video... I’m a pattern rebel and love to learn through experience so thank for you showing me how to try my own sweater!
You're lucky to even get a sweater kid - there are children in Africa without any sweaters at all. 🤣 But seriously, you have such a soothing way of teaching. I finally see how a sweater can be made! It seems possible someday and I can use this video to learn the skills I need. Thanks!💜
i love this. u can't believe from how much time i was waiting for this because i really want to knit a sweater from bottom to top but was help less .thanks once again for sharing this helpful video especially for mine
Love your videos! Me: I hate sweaters, thry are operated; they are bulky and itchy, too hot or nor warm enough etc. Also me: I am watching this because I want to knit a sweater!!
Hi RJ is there a rule or a graph as to how many stitches for each age.? Will you please share If I follow your tutorial How many stitches to cast on. thanks
That was great ... taught like a human not a machine : )) You have inspired me to give it a try. Can you recommend a similar pattern to the one you used for this video ? Thanks for taking the time to share, I loved it.
Now I think I fell in love with you.😜 So wonderful that you post such a miss on RUclips. I myself am such a coward that I would redo the work where I made a mistake and redo the video.🤣
This video is great, thank you so much. At one point while talking about counting stitches, you sighed loudly and I have never related to a how-to video more.

Buy my book! You can listen to the audiobook while you knit 😇: www.amazon.com/dp/1913207390/ref=cm_sw_em_r_mt_dp_JCJDE8TWQDA2XX97KT2G
Amazing job thank you
好看
I love how the audio so clear without any annoying music
Thanks! I learned that lesson long ago. I’ll be the first to admit that some of my early videos are a bit of an audio nightmare!
Lol ikr sometimes the music drowns out the audio! I think Ryan’s videos are really good for that not happening
The decrease instrucción, evento after the corrección, end IP decreasing the sleeves but not the body.
agreed
I keep failing with knitting
Is he really simultaneously presenting this as "the easiest sweater ever to knit" and admitting to 'f' it up at end...i'm already loving this guy.
😳
What does this mean
lol
Oh my goodness! My New Years resolution was to learn to knit a sweater, and I just started today. This video is a GOD SEND
good luck!
RJ Knits thank you!
How did it go?

“A kid would be lucky to have a sweater at all.” 😂 That’s a quotable quote, especially when I mess up a kid’s sweater!

Such a lovely colour for a sweater! Regardless of the “mistake” it looks wonderful! I’m happy to see a video from you!!! 😊
You are the Julia child of knitting in all the most wonderful ways. Thank you for making such genuine and clearly explained videos!
Tired of staring longingly at unique one of a kind etsy sweaters that are like $50-80.

I really wish you said at the beginning of the video that it's child sized
Well i mean do you have eyes... Im sure the guy assumed u got common sense
Isidora So No need to be so hostile. Knitting is for everyone, it’s a wholesome feel-good activity.
come on, you just wash it in cold water, add hair conditioner and miracle growth formula - and voila!
This video helped me sooo much!! thank you!
Hi! Love the video! I have a question, how do you combine the armpits?
Another question for anyone about stitching arms to torso-are they only ATTACHED at the 6 stitch spots on sleeve and torso? That’s what it looks like. So there are still HOLES in the armpits! How does one close up the holes in the armpits? I looked for videos on this channel for that but couldn’t find any assistance. THANK YOU IN ADVANCE! Newbie knitter here!
Hi, Thank you for all the videos that are detailed. I know basic knitting except for knitting in round. My question- Is it possible to knit sweaters by making panels like we do in crochet. Thanks so much.
This was so helpful . I was knitting along and i have my joined sweater at my lap as i type this. Tysm
Can you use circular knitting needles for the sleeves too? Or must you use double pointed needles. Im making a sweater for my stuffed frog so i want it to be teeny! :) thanks for your videos
I saw another similar tutorial and yes you can use small circular needles for the sleeves.
You can use a long circular needle and use the Magic Loop method. This method of knitting in the round enables you to knit tubes of any size.
What you do is so amazing, I've just discovered your channel and I loved your work😍!! I still didn't watch the whole videos, so I don't know if you have done something for pets, but it will be great if you teach us how to make a sweater for pets.🐱💜
Wonderful video, channel, instructions, editing and sound. Congratulations!
I was wondering...
I'm making this exact same sweater but I don't have double point needles, I'm currently at the body part... how do I make it work? Thank you sooo much for what you do :)
Because I'm a counter, I'm catching that those first 6 slipped stitches for the sleeve should have been knitted. So if that's where your in-the-round stitch marker was, you should knit those first 6 stitches of the round, THEN put them on the pin, then continue the round. Because otherwise they would be a round short.
How'd you knit the armpits?? You put them on hold but never showed how they were connected, do the safety pins stay in the final product???
very understandable! (six is not a couple! :)) BUT~ for the first time, because of your mistake, I understand this process. I was always a knit flat and piece together kinda gal! NOT ANYMORE!
TYTYTYTY
By the way, "grafting" is a specific technique in knitting, and when you attach the sleeves you are not using that technique, you are not grafting the sleeves on. If you were to cut off the bottom of your sweater, say because it had become damaged, and you had knitted a new bottom, the way you would attach the new bottom of your sweater to the body would be grafting.
This is really helpful but do you have a basic written pattern including sleeve increases?
Excuse me, three needles at a time??? Bruh moment 😭
Lol I bought 5 needles
When I first tried knitting a jumper as a kid, I did it in 2 sides which I presume you sewed together afterwards... I'd never heard of circular knitting needles then! And also, don't most jumpers you buy from shops have them in 2 halves sewn together??
i love how straight forward this video is! you make me believe i can do it haha. Thank you! How much yarn would I need to knit for a man your size?
also what size needles should i use?
