Number three: It's not a trickle charger; it's a sophisticated battery maintainer. It monitors your battery 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and provides easy and safe maintenance charging with no overcharging. A worry-free, completely automated battery charger that may be used all year.
Number 4: Restore your battery: Detects battery sulfation and acid stratification automatically, restoring lost battery performance for improved engine starts and longer battery life.
Number 5: It's compatible with any vehicle: To make battery maintenance straightforward and quick, add a permanent onboard battery charger to any vehicle. Additionally, any of the GCP Series AC Port Plugs may be used to provide remote charging access.

12 volts on that battery isn't great. I'm curious as to what the state of health is on it.

For a trickle charger like this it’s no big deal. The reason for avoiding the battery grounds is due to sparks that can be produced during the connection/disconnection phases. This is not designed to be connected and disconnected, so I don’t see the issue.
