Do you have a collection of holiday and Christmas papers that you've been wanting to make into a Christmas journal or gluebook? I've been wanting to make one for years and am excited to show you how I put mine together by collaging pages and binding them. 🎄⛄️🎅🏼
🔎 I worked on collaging the individual pages first. I chose file dividers and collaged on each side. I used old Christmas cards and holiday postcards, and in addition to holiday colored scraps, I used die cut pieces from Cathe Holden. You can find them here:
www.simonsaysstamp.com/produc...
🎬 For the binding, I used the tab binding method and in this video I demonstrate how I do it. You can also find another example here:
• Tab Binding Junk Journ...
For the covers, I wrapped a couple more file dividers with holiday wrapping paper. It's a simple solution.
👀 Let me know if you have any questions and I'd love to hear if you have made your own holiday-themed gluebook!

Just exquisite. Truly a labor of love to be enjoyed forever.
Best tab binding I have seen!
Thank you! I’m so glad you liked how it turned out! 👍🏼🎄❤️
That binding technique was the perfect choice for your gluebook. It's beautiful! I'd never tire of flipping those pages and looking at your beautiful collages! Merry Christmas! ❤🎄
Thanks! I’m definitely going to use this method in future projects 👍🏼😉💙
It was extrenely helpful to hear how you progressed your project even before having definitive answers to what you wanted to do ultimately. I dislike unfinished projects and lose heart if I cannot complete them. Yours seems like a great way to mediate the situation. Thanks
I’m glad you picked up on that point. For SO long I’d stop and not finish because I didn’t have all the answers. I’m so glad I’ve allowed myself to make this adjustment. 👍🏼💙
Thank you for giving the mysteries of this collage. It s very, very nice. I hope you are well. Good day. Regards
I love that binding! The collages are fabulous!
Thank you, Toni!! 👍🏼😉💙

Your book is exquisite! Thanks for all your tips. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you and your family!
Thank you, Sheila! Happy New Year to you, too 🎉
Beautiful! I like how tight your finished book is. I have watched many videos on this type of binding and they usually seem very loose and floppy. I will have to give this a try.
I know what you mean. I like it tight, too. It’s nice when you can push the fabric tighter when the glue is still wet. 👍🏼💙
Great project. Love the tabs idea. Wishing you a Merry Christmas.
Thank you! You too! 🎄
Beautiful.
Beautiful ❣️ TFS
Beautiful, what an amazing idea. ❤
This is beautiful!
Margarete you are such an inspiration…I love this …yes I too have hoarded Christmas cards….now this is such a perfect solution. Also I just love the neutral tabs in between the coloured one ….very pleasing to my eye . Happy Christmas to you 🎄
Thanks so much, Michelle! Merry Christmas to you too ❣️🎄🙂
Great tutorial on tab binding❤❤❤
Thank you 🤗. Glad you liked it👍🏼
Really helpfull and thank you so much for this marvelous idea for christmascards
So glad you found it useful. Thanks for watching! 🎄😉👍🏼
Your Christmas journal turned out beautifully. I made a tab journal using Tim Holtz’s linen fabric tape and it worked well. I haven’t thought about using squares of fabric. That is a great idea!
I’m going to use the linen fabric tape next 😉👍🏼💙
This was super useful! Thanks so much!
Glad it was helpful!💙
That’s really beautiful!😊
Thank you! 😊 ❤️
thank you for this great idea!

What a stunning book! Love the binding technique. I don't think I've seen it before. Think I'll have to give it a go. Thanks for the tutorial, Margarete 😊
Wonderful! I do hope you’ll give it a try! 👍🏼💜🎄
Your Christmas journal is GORGEOUS!! 🎄❤️ Thank you for showing us the tab-binding style...very helpful & inspiring as always!! 😊
Thanks so much! I hope it inspires you to make one of your own❣️🎄👍🏼
I have always admired the tab closure method, but it always seemed so complicated, you have made it seem very easy and I think I could actually bind a journal using this design. The Christmas journal you made is beautiful and so inspirational Margarete!!! Love the idea of preserving Christmas treasures in a journal. Thanks for a truly creative and informative video!!
Thanks so much, Debbie! I do hope you’ll try it out and see how it goes. 🎄❤️👍🏼
Very nice!! I think I liked it best when you did the flip down method, instead of up. Hope you understand, so I guess I'm saying the back cover to be your front. Such a great idea, not sure you've got more room to play in though, it's pretty decorated already. Hugs and Happy Holidays! * L
I’m glad I’ve got two options for a flip through 😉. I’ve still got to complete those inside covers! 🙌🏼
@@MargareteMiller make them both front covers so you can go both ways!!
I love this 😍 it is a great idee to make something whit my christmas postcards 😍 if you want to make a video on how you created a page or to, I would love to see that too 😍Thank you so mutch for sharing 🙏 lots of love from arctic Norrway at -16 today 🙌🎅🎄🌻🎍
Thank you! I hope you will make one.👍🏼 And I’ll think about sharing a video from the process. 💙 Greetings from LA, where we have a beautiful 22c day today 🌇
Thank you so much for showing how to make your beautiful journal. Your demonstration was perfect and the final pages are so also perfect. 🌷❤️. I wish I could express my appreciation in a better way.👏
Thank you so much , Eileen❣️ I’m so glad you enjoyed it ❤️🎄❤️
Margarete - this is fabulous! Apparently, you are a teacher @ heart! Your instructions are easy to understand as you develop this gorgeous work of art. The finished piece proves that this method works. Thank you! Merry Christmas to you & your family.
Awwww. Thanks so much for the kind words ❣️
This is great. I love that you shared kinda how you figured things out. Cracks me up a little because just last month for another challenge that i put together using 4 envelopes. I love these folders and i think i could add some pages in the center of each of your folders for journaling. This is so inspiring. Thank you, Margarete
Great idea!! I didn’t even think about using other kinds of papers between 💙
I always love listening and watching. This is a great technique I hope to use. Lovely book🎄🎅🏼❤️
Thank you so much! Glad you enjoyed it❣️
Very nice, Maragrete! Love your ideas. Thinking I will make my version using the vintage Christmas postcards I have amasssed over the years.
Super! Sounds like a great plan ❤️
So very lovely !
Glad you liked the tab binding! You can also do it with double sided tape. If you get heavy handed with the liquid glue, it can seep through the fabric.
Yes, you are right. I was using fabric scraps to sometimes wipe up the excess. Great idea with using the double sided tape! 💙
This is brilliant! Thank you so much for the video. You constantly challenge and inspire me
I'm so glad, Susan❣️ And thanks so much for the kind words. 😘
What a beautiful Christmas gluebook, Margarete! I found your video very inspirational and the tabbed binding was clearly demonstrated and do-able. Thank you so much for sharing this. And Merry Christmas, my friend!😍❤🎅🎄
Thanks for stopping by, Shelly❣️ And Merry Christmas 🎄❤️
Love this fabric binding. Thank you for sharing 🙏🏻 ❤
You are so welcome!
Looks beautiful!❤️. I have done a few things with this binding method, and one formula I follow is to use an even number of pages ( including the front and back cover ) with an odd number of tabs down the spine. That way, when you get to the end, you will have the three tabs on the back cover to match the front. I also really like the way you cut the Manila dividers, so that some of the pages had a “built in “ tab. It was a great idea to plan out the landscape versus portrait format before starting, in order to best use the collage materials you have, like specific Christmas cards.
GREAT advice on having even pages. I will definitely do that for next time. Thanks❣️
Loved watching and learning. Could you tell me please where you got your file dividers, thank you.
I got them from a second hand shop. Look up “5x8 file dividers” and see what you find. 👍🏼💜
Love your tab Christmas journal. Do you recall where you picked up the gorgeous wrapping paper you used on the cover?
I got it at a second hand store, so I don’t know who manufactured it, unfortunately. I’m glad you enjoyed it❣️
The Spencerian script really caught my eye!@@MargareteMiller
Margarete, did you just cut the back of the file folder with the tab to the size that you want to make the individual pages?
Mine happened to be the right size already, but you can definitely cut them down to size.
@@MargareteMiller so you only use one thickness of file folder and the fold is not involved?
I would like to know where and what size file dividers are those. Where can I find them?
I got them used at a second hand shop. They are 5” x 8”.
Hi Margaret is there a 2024 challenge? If so how would get the prompts ?
Yes, I have them in my Etsy shop: www.etsy.com/listing/1621662968/printable-vol-4-assignments
Hi...where do you get the 5x8 divider cards?
I found a mismatched set at a second hand store (Goodwill). You can google it, and see who carries them. Or get regular ones and cut them down to whatever size you want. 😉💜👍🏻
