I guess you can teach an old dog new tricks. I've been fishing bass for 55 years, and I've never thrown a swim jig, because most of the waters that I fish, (primarily farm ponds) didn't seem conducive to their use. After seeing you throw one so much, I decided I'd been out of the loop long enough. I rigged up a blue and purple with a blue Power Stinger and caught 4 bass today up to about 4 pounds. Thanks Matt!!
I fished last week and caught nothing all morning, switched to a drop shot and caught a 4, then a 6 then a 8.5, another 4 and finally a 10.2 pound monster! FINALLY caught the 10 pounder!!!! Took 50 years lol.
Your channel is outstanding. The drop shot is easy to fish and very effective. Keeping the bait near bottom and above grass and slime seems to give the fish a better view than you might get with a TX rig or Carolina rig. Than you Matt for another excellent video
Great info. My go to drop shot baits are flukes and small tubes. I've also recently started drop shot fly fishing nymphs for rainbows in our northwest rivers.
The KVD Dream Shot has been my most reliable producer. Matt, the wacky hooked small stick bait concept is a great idea for a dropshot rig. Many thanks!
For pressured lakes I tied up some drop shot flies, bucktail or marabou, and have done really well with those. Otherwise i wacky rig a brown or green worm with a chartreuse tip most of the time. Need to experiment more with other plastics. Great vids!
My go-to dropshot baits are Aaron’s Pro Shad Roboworm (my two biggest bass on this one), Zman Long Shotz Goby Bryant and of course Morning Dawn Roboworm. I recently tried Berkeley Flat worm in Gobyashi and suddenly caught some that broke up a slow period with three straight catches. They were small though.
I actually like the the shad impact over the easy shiner on a drop shot most of the time...also makes for a good spinnerbait trailer. Still plenty of use for the easy shiner but I actually like that one more on a flashy swimmer, willowvibe, or on its own with a small weighted ewg...cheers man!
Great video Matt. I like all of your choices and would be happy just fishing them. I would add a curly tail worm by Roboworm or the 4 inch power worm….once the water warms up I think curly tails get more bites than straight tail worms. Something off the wall is the Nikko Tadpole….we have had 100 fish days on that thing. I know you weren’t impressed but the OSP Dice gets bites of all sizes for us.
Just caught my first dropshot fish with a wacky rigged senko. 3 casts later around laydowns I think I hooked into a striper or catfish. Snapped my 12lb line with ease, partially my fault drag was maxed and I didn’t realize. I’m hooked on the dropshot now lol. That thump on my rod was harder than some 8-10lb channels cats I’ve caught lately.
Just got in to drop shot fishing just started and like the UDSP plastic like Z-MAN or my favorite HIVE plastic. I know there's more great stuff and strong to keep get them.
I think I have caught more smallmouths on the St. Lawrence with the max scent flatworm than anything else. I have tried many others, and they just can't seem to let these go bye. Going to try that rob worm morning dawn the next trip up in August. Thanks for the tip
@@MattStefanFishing great, thanks. I had assumed longer leader due to the shallow line angle, to get it off of the bottom a bit more and give a little working room. Hadn’t considered lower weight. Thanks again.
Hey Matt….great stuff!! You didn’t mention what type of hook you use for the flat worm and roboworm. I’m guessing the rebarb hook??!! Didn’t you come in second place two years ago using the flat worm on a drop shot…I remember that video. Thanks as always for sharing your tips!! 🍻🍻
Definitely hard to beat drop shot or power shot. Flatworms , small swimbaits, minnow baits, some of zman floating baits along with any worms from small to large.
@MattStefanFishing in this local pond I fish that's stupidly pressured this gut caught a 8lb plus largemouth on one and it has me rethinking things because I always liked orange for trout, walleye and smallmouth but I have caught largemouth on orange swimbaits. Just checking with you. Thank you.
Technically, the Roboworms are poured, but not by hand. They're actually "poured" by robotics. That's why they're so detailed and consistent while also super soft like hand pours.
Xzone hot shot minnow, sk baby z too and great lakes finesse dropworm/drop minnow for bait fish imitations and missile baits magic worm, roboworms and reaction innovation flirt worm.

Just trying to save video. I use all the same baits and a few other ones with better tricks. Want to no. Contact me
Matt this is exactly what I needed to hear. The bass in my area are post spawn and I gotta learn how to catch fish in deeper water. Thanks again. 😊
Glad to help!

I catch a ton of large mouth bass on green pumpkin scented 5” flat worm. Large mouth bass love them!
yes they do!
Nice video. My favorite drop shot baits are the yum sonar minnow 3'' and the strike king kvd dream shot.

@@MattStefanFishing If you do try it again get the smaller size...much different action I think.

its a great bait
Easy shiner, roboworm for sure. After that I like the zman hula stickz in smelt or pbj.
awesome
I love the dropshot, it saves the day when nothing else works. Always have one on deck usually another one or two in the rod locker
Right on
I enjoyed it,I’m still learning drop shot.Thanks
Glad you enjoyed it
@mattstefanfishing what are your best tips for those of us throwing drop shot in shallow farm ponds from the bank?
Light weight and longer leader
@@MattStefanFishing great, thanks. I had assumed longer leader due to the shallow line angle, to get it off of the bottom a bit more and give a little working room. Hadn’t considered lower weight. Thanks again.

Yes i did and i use both the roborworm hook and a drop shot hook
Definitely hard to beat drop shot or power shot. Flatworms , small swimbaits, minnow baits, some of zman floating baits along with any worms from small to large.

Thanks Matt.Do you get line twist with a drop shot? If so do you recommend a barrel swivel then tie on leader?
Yep
Great episode!
Thanks
Thanks
Thank you for doing what you do, Matt. Another question for you. What's your opinion on an orange senko?
i havent used one

Can you use a wolf river rig rather than a drop shot?
you could
Was that a Yamamoto shad shaped worm or a D-Shad? Both work well on a dropshot😉
Shad shape
Great info
Glad it was helpful!
I like a ribbon tail worm but just an inch of the worm with all the ribbon part.
Thanks for sharing
yes. these are the best ones to use.
Glad you like them!
What about the smallie smasher? An the missile baits bomb shot. You should
I’ve used both
Do you use any type of bait keeper, like a hitchhiker or some other type? My favorite is the Hazodone shad 3in.
no i usually dont
The best drop shot bait is actually a 1.5oz punch rig through a 10” thick mat of vegetation.
Sounds like a lot of work
👍👍👍👍👍
thanks for watching
Roboworm >everything else
Haha they are good

No, you need that FB tiny creature bait. You also need CA worms. Western techniques require Western worms. Also, flat stuff like LPT stuff is key.
