The Double Life Of Anthony Bourdain

- Опубликовано: 1 июл 2024
- He rose to fame by shattering the notion of what a celebrity chef looked like, and while some loved his tough guy image, others found him to be a bit much. Regardless, Anthony Bourdain made a name for himself on hit shows like "No Reservations" and "Parts Unknown." While he was always open about his own struggles, some of Bourdain's other statements were often controversial. He was not a fan of some of his fellow celebrity chefs, and his remarks about vegetarians were just outright confusing. Let’s take a look at why some people have said Anthony Bourdain led a double life.

bethany jedd Congrats.
one day at a time.
How is this showing he was living a double life. He was open about everything you talked about in this video...you showed nothing new
Exactly!!! It's not a double life if you openly admit it. The title makes no sense.
Exactly
I agree! The title makes no sense!
Robin Brown They just do that to get you to click on.
@@tonyr.5111 They didnt mention that he was.. Alledgedly.... The or one of the chefs that cooked the Human flesh at their sick parties.. His wifes a satonist... Aledgedly
I can't stand sensationalized titles like this one, so named for the sheer purpose of titillating and luring viewers. It's not a "double life" when Anthony has been publicly airing his personal demons for many years.
Aaaameeeen.
Or Isaac Kappy...
Amen
Sometimes people just get tired of fighting the demons in their own head. Sad but tragically true. RIP ANTHONY ❤
Genius doesn't have an off switch.
👎👎🖤
@@stevendewitt6398 But unfortunately there are ghosts who has it.. What did President Obama ment writing on Twitter in2018 that Bourdain did make us a litlle bit less afraid of the unknown".... was the true meaning he did make us A little bit too much aware of it 🖤🖤🖤🖤🙄🙄
It’s Fukin tiring fighting yourself all the time
A few yrs ago I felt that "Parts Unknown"--thx 2 Bourdain--was EASILY the most sophisticated show on TV and no one would ever Top it! His philosophy lectures were amazing and probably will never b replicated in cookie-cutter pretty much worthless TV now...
so it is,there are too many stories we re not wanted to hear and someone pays the price for telling them 🖤❤️🖤❤️
He never seemed like he was happy to me. RIP Anthony.
Becky Bednorz in photographs his facial expression often looks pained
He never looked happy.....
He became what he despised. One of his shticks was sticking it to these "celebrity chefs" over and over again and saying what sellouts they are. It was painful to read what he wrote about Mark Bittman, who is a prolific cookbook author. He apparently lightened his views in later years, how could he not? He was living the same life they were! If anything he was even more popular than many of them. The "Parts Unknown" show on CNN had the highest selling ad space of any show on the channel.
That is because he didnt put a fake smile. He laughed because something was funny not because of the cameras. You probably think that Giada is a happy person ...dont you?
He seemed very egotistical to me!
He seemed pretty honest.
He was weak for letting a hoe take him to Suicide
Never a day has passed that you haven't been missed. Thank you for your dreams
I love everything about Anthony B. It made him who he was . I wish he was still around showing us the world and sharing his knowledge. Rest in Paradise
I love everything about this Man.
Death is not the greatest loss in life. The greatest loss is what dies inside us while we live.....
He will be missed.
exactly I could never have said it better!
Mamy C.. what a beautiful sentiment. Thank you. It was so heartwarming. RIP Anthony.
BOBBY LEE - God help you if you only see the bad in people.
Mamy C death is the culmination of life!
He fought his demons and won so many times, I think your soul just gets exhausted eventually after fighting for so long. Nobody here including myself can say for sure why he killed himself but I give him credit for the private battles he fought.
He definitely lost
I like your phrase “your soul just gets exhausted eventually after fighting for so long.” I can’t understand why he killed himself . He seemed to have a lot going for him. Perhaps he got bad news about his health or family. I know that I miss him and his passion for good people and food . He seemed to have a good heart .
@@honey-feeney9800 the soul never gets exhausted. The mind and body do

Did they really kill him??..his death is still a mystery...he had money...success...traveled for free...its very strange
How’s this a “Double Life”????
R.I.P Anthony, I had the honor of meeting you in 2016; you told me some thing's that day that have been ingrained in me. Thank you. R.I.P my friend.
What 'double life'? There is no double life here. He was open and honest about his past, kicked habits (although drinking wasn't one of those he kicked), moved on, became successful. Unless........
Hardly a Double Life!!
I watched and loved his shows, a cool dude. I was genuinely shocked when I heard of his death and wish i could have known more of him. I feel strangely cheated that he tapped out so soon....
same here
I miss his honesty but what a communicator
Agree, Tony was open ,easy to speak with with every person in his shows. The double life is in his head who has something to hide ,not the one s who says the things aloud
Sad exploitation of the death of a gifted man.
By far the best job ever in Parts Unknown. Traveling, eating, drinking, and hanging out with cool people. Love his show.
Anthony Lopez all of his shows were great. I think no reservations was his best
Not forgetting the tight critics over the US policies around the world, all its nasty consequences, people s every day lives with all the joys and sorrows..the man did have a clever way of doing politics unfortunately everyone may not have liked it that way, just like that, over the cup of coffee 🖤🖤🖤🖤
I guess money, fame, success, family, and all the other stuff that was his life just wasn't enough. It never is...it lasts a while but the spirit longs for God.
“A Double Life?” You mislead your viewers. A brief biography.
Personally, I love the guy and everything he did! He was a REAL guy on the TV! Who cares what kind of a life he led in his personal life unless he was a clown killer... wait a second on that.
We ALL live a double life!
We ALL have multiple sides to our lives!
We ALL are not perfect!
Love ya Tony! -Reed!
Just to show you. Having a full head and a full purse, does not give you a full heart. Man shall not live by bread alone.
He was such a good looking guy. By all exterior appearances, the man had everything. There are shirtless photos of him around, and jesus christ he had a fucking 8-pack. I guess he really did do that martial arts shit because he was in incredible shape for a 61-year-old. He had a smoking hot body.
Chris & Joan Seaman that is true but that doesn't apply. he talked at be 40 years old and not being able to pay his rent. he would never think fame and money would bring him happiness
What a joke you are Cobb. You sure it's not you that lives on hatred? Hoping the someone obviously better than you rots in hell? Self-righteous prick. Everything I've read and seen of Anthony Bourdain tells me he was one of the most decent, humane human beings out there in the public eye.
@@Mambrinito he did criticise and make fun of a lot of people in his series. I noticed this also particularly the Vegas episode. He seemed quite judgemental and not at peace.
Well said Seaman's. I find that being judgmental is just another form of critical thinking. I find that teachers are very judgmental as a group, because we are called upon to make decisions constantly in order to make the right call. Judgmental people live in their own form of discontent. He is gone now. We all have our battles to fight. When a person is judgmental that comes from a place of low self-esteem and having been judged and put down.
what an absolute tragedy -what a loss -a gorgeous man rip anthony bourdain and peace to your family
Very sad that such interesting amazing man is gone way to young... R.I.P. Anthony⚘⚘⚘⚘🕊🕊🕊🕊 You will be missed by many.. 😓😓😔😔💔💔
Depression has no religion. It has to do with our brain. It isn't evil or good. It can be managed, but there are times where we feel hopeless because it's never-ending. It's not curable. Medications, for the most part, don't work effectively without a ton of side effects. I struggle every day, but I have not lost the fight yet. I get why he did what he did...he just had enough.
Yes, if it is a short-term depression, but not with having bipolar. It can be managed with what you suggested, but it always comes back.
That's why you should pray Jesus for healing..Trust me , there is no other way of healing! Jesus is the way...
Be well
@Morgan Brandy thank you, someone dear to us may benefit
I am sorry, but Jesus is a concept and belief system that is all. The brain is far more complex than we even begin to understand. If I thought Jesus would end my bipolar which by the way a genetic disorder, I would pray for him. I raised as a Catholic and trust me didn't do me any favors.

I loved his shows, I honestly believe Anthony was touching on too many toes, as he was exposing the child trafficking on his new show and his involvement with his new girlfriend, Weinstein and Hillary. Two hangings in one week, I don't think so.. RIP Anthony Bourdain.. I pray the truth prevails.
Whats up between his new girlfriend and weinstein and hillary ?

He has turned his life around and i'm impressed, he deserves credit for his successes.
DodgeWatt rogan was singing his praises just this week... its so sad
I liked Anthony Bourdain a lot, and he never held anything back, and always
was very direct, and told it like it was, even if not politically correct. Sometimes
you wonder if someone wanted him dead, and hung him, to make it look like
a suicide ? It's possible. It's hard to believe someone would take their own life
after overcoming all the hardships he did in his life -drugs, alcohol, poverty.
If he broke up with his girlfriend, and was drinking heavy, I can see him spiraling
into a deep depression, as alcohol is a central nervous system depressant. I do
wonder why some very rich celebrities who appear to have it all, take their lives,
and most do so on drugs and booze.
I'll miss his down to earth style, and his Sunday shows, as the rest of the stuff on
TV, is not worth watching anymore. RIP Tony--hope your in a better place.
Note - I really do wonder if this was really a suicide ??? Hmmmmh ??
Robert May agree with all u said. Miss him. Smh
They killed him ( a hit by the pedophilia mafia is done by hanging from a door apparently) They are tall men .....they could have stood up FFS.
yep there's definitely some doubt about it being a suicide.
Why is it hard to believe he killed himself. He wasn't a god. He was a flawed human being that had an addictive personality, suffered from depression at times etc. Fame, money, notoriety doesn't stop someone from being suicidal. In fact, sometimes it can make you more suicidal.
KNOWLEDGE.....👁
Cant imaging how many people will miss him, my hero!RIP
You can say what you want about Anthony, but I think the trait that truly redeems him is his love for In n Out Burger.
So very sad... This did not need to happen. Someone wrote when your at the end of your rope, tie a knot and sit on it! I have been there....at age 57 I've been there and done that....for me, i found God in a very powerful encounter and He's always with me and never has failed me...ever.
Me too, sister. Loved to hear your testimony.
Karen Weber. Thank God .
God saves...people should seek and believe in Him.
Your optimism and faith are not shared by many suicidal people, because both are hard to see when you really focus on reality. The world is harsh and no one cares whether you live or die. People die of cancer, get beheaded, die in pain and terror every single day. Animals eat eachother alive just to persist. We occupy a meaningless spec of space in a universe that is endless. Have a nice day.
Karen Weber Needed God in his life. Probably was never told how faithful and true, willing and able God is. That is what makes the sadness of his suicide so palpably heartbreaking
I certainly believe he was murdered. His "suicide" made no sense!
@BBD Design I would disagree. While your references to Bourdain's clearly self-destructive behavior is accurate, it was about 20 years out of date. In the subsequent years he had become very professionally successful and financially comfortable with a bright outlook for the future. Moreover he had married and fathered a daughter whom he was very proud of. I don't believe he wanted to give all that up after having worked so hard for it!
Your nuts

@@johnscanlan9335 his relationship with asia argento was on the rocks and he had a past history of frequent suicidal thoughts after his first marriage ended. money can't buy love etc it's totally plausible
@@humanly3270 Interesting 🤔 I think a parallel narsassitic personality disorder made him think that in 'death' he would be immortalized. And in some respects he was RIGHT because the news reports seemed to fawn over him..

Sooooooooooo sexy !!!
Yes. My thoughts, too.

Yes indeed. Cool 😎 confident, brilliant man! Sexy & handsome! And no BS; he was REAL!
Ronald Mitchell I believe you. I’m not surprised. I’ve made it a point in my life to never take anything from a man-in an attempt to prove not all women r simply out to take a man for the most💰possible. So, while I see Bourdain’s point & understand his deep seated resentment (‘loathing’) you need to accept that not all women are ruthless users, not all deserve 2b deemed “useless”.
@Ronald Mitchell You are right. Absolutely, status, prestige,
Money helps, sure. But in case of AB even if I never knew WHO
he was , if I stumbled on him on the beach, wearing shorts, open
Shirt, with his charming wrinkles and messy hair ..... and smiles
A bit, I'd fall for him. Afterwards, whatever happen.... well ....

A selfish, self-absorbed, clown like this dude.
Nothing I saw in any of this changed my perception of AB. If you look to celebrities for any kind of role model you deserve to be disappointed. After I read Kitchen Confidential I didn't think AB was any more than a gifted chef and writer with a wicked sense of humor. Stop looking for role models in television or movies and you won't be disappointed as often.
He took me all over the world from small town Mississippi with his show. Thank you Anthony B . Rest peacefully may you wake to the most beautiful 💜
I didn't really know anything about Anthony Bourdain until watching The Layover series. He had that no nonsense kind of attitude and was brutally honest, but down to earth. One of a kind.
This isn't a double life, he openly spoke about this as well as had extensively written about this.

I do believe that Mr. Bourdain’s show helped many people around the world understand one another better and bring us closer together. I will always be grateful to him for that.
He was an incredible human being. One of my favorite shows of all time. He was the kind of person everyone could relate to. I would have loved to sit down and have a beer with him.
There wasn't any part of his life that I found surprising. He is honest about his life. I don't find this a double life at all.

awww man i hope they didn't actually break up. they were good for each other. i remember that Rome episode where she tagged along they seem like a cool couple
Depression is a hidden malaise that has taken many lives in the form of suicide. Suicide and other mental health issues may also go up in this pandemic and these issues are not being addressed by many politicians.
He didn’t commit suicide. He died of auto-erotic asphyxiation.
I admire him for his honesty in speaking of his past about drug addiction and even more about him not letting it get hold of him again. This man was so charismatic, funny, serious, intelligent and entertaining, I still love watching his shows and reading his books. He is missed by all who loved him and will always be one of my favourites in the culinary world.

Around 1985-86 I would see Anthony frequently in the pubs and rock clubs in Long Island and Manhattan. In the afternoon he would be the first person sitting at the bar in New Hyde Park and by evening he would be stumbling around the rock clubs on Bleecker Street in Manhattan. He was a depressed loner and chronic alcoholic and wasn't 1\2 as friendly as his television persona. He loved chatting with bartenders and kitchen staff but never spoke to other patrons except to bum cigarettes. To be honest, I didn't much like him because he would never chat with me unless he was bumming cigarettes. The last time I saw him in person was in The Rock N Roll Cafe on Bleecker Street in Manhattan. I tried to chat him up because I was him everywhere I went from Long Island to Manhattan but the music was too loud. I gave him a Marlboro and the band was playing loud so he shrugged his shoulders and spun on his feet at walked away, never saw him again in person. 27 years later I was shocked to see him a television star. I remember him as a loner and depressed alcoholic bar fly who always dressed in blue jeans and wife beaters. He was nowhere near as affable in person as his television persona. Quiet, lonely, alcoholic Rock n Roller who loved staggering around on Bleecker Street in the Village. I was shocked when I saw him on television and never realized he was intelligent and well spoken and cultured. Back when I used to see him he seemed to be an alcoholic wall flower! RIP Anthony!
Patrick C Sad! He allowed the evil one to punk him out
There is always more to people than what you see or know. People have different sides to them; sometimes, they grow into something better, than...what was once known.
Maybe because humans have a tendency to avoid rejection, depending of the impression we get from the other human in front of us(based on lack of confidence or cloth or looks)but when we gain some status, usually financially, this make us think that we can talk to anybody or do anything, so sad, that our arrogance, ego and physical needs get bigger when our soul and respect for God's commands gets smaller till our spirit almost leaves our body, keep God in you, meditate in him and your life will be so worth living it, you will never want to ended! God exist and so the devil, satan is here to cause pain and destruction, the Lord Jesus wants to preserve you eternally!!!
Believe in God, he loves you.
Patrick C - You had to say FOUR TIMES in your comment that he was an alcoholic!! Stop looking down on him for his weaknesses! We all have faults - including you!!
I know when I was younger I partied hard too! I went thru different phases and different vices. People are allowed to grow and change. THATS LIFE!!
A.B. is in my top 10 I would love to have met and shared a meal and conversation with. RIP my brother.
This man, I enjoyed his show. He knew things were about to be exposed about his past. Bad things.
Obviously a lost, unhappy soul.
Pam Lovell how? Because he killed himself. Doubt you would say that if you saw him the day before he killed himself
Pam Lovell
Yup.
Travel is the best damn education, real travel! I listen to him, and every traveler off the beaten path, shares his knowledge.
Man alive I loved his shows!! I learned a lot about the world by watching them. When I learned he passed away I literally cried. He’s a celebrity I actually gave a shit about. I liked him and would have loved to have met him and had a cold one with. Tony we miss ya buddy!!!!
I cried for days when I learned of his death. I only met him once, but he was one of the nicest people I ever met. I pray he is at peace now.
its guys like him that can teach us one thing:
never give up!
about the things you believe in👍👍👍👍
@@miamargareta9997 oh how ironic to see this old comment of mine, on a day where i feel so desperate myself and close to taking my life. life can go wrong, very wrong.
Da !, Hello his Daddy was a record exec with Columbia Records and his mommy was an editor with The New York Times, she didn't deliver it. I am more than certain his mom and pop would help him , he knows which doors to open. No rags on this guy.
That is not double life if he was talking about and quite open to write about it ! Not every addict kills himself, so we should just say that we don’t really know what happened ? Did he have any history of harming himself that the family knows about? Just wait till his mom or brother speaks out and stop digging out dirt on him. He was contributing as a wonderful human being while alive and now I hope he has peace and happiness that he rightfully deserves 🙏🏻🕊
Hey Nicky, your video on Anthony Bourdain was second to none. I watched his show all the time and I feel sad that he's no longer with us. I ask God to give his family especially hid daughter strength to deal with this trouble situation.

The lesson? Doesn't matter how much money, fame, accolades, or reputation you have.....if you don't have God in your life, you have NOTHING!
Steve M god ain't real there are many happy atheists what killed this man is depression and probably substances

My EXACT thought!
Exact of the exactly, and that's exactly my point!
Angela Gracia .that why I said who is this person running this channel.picking apart everyone. Lets smear Nikki swift all over the internet.we don't even know if any of the shit is true.
Green Eyes migee lets smear Nikki swift. I got the pitchforks, laptop, arm chair with genuine leather. Lets do THIS!!
I never dreamed anything like this would've ever happened to him. It's sad to find out the pain and suffering that people are doing behind closed doors. RIP.
Great man!!! R.I.P Anthony!!!
He drinks more than he eats.
Goodnight Sweet Prince.
What surprised me the most was how you pronounced his name.
I really missed Anthony Bourdain travel channel since he passed away three years ago in France!
