The Double Life Of Anthony Bourdain

  • He rose to fame by shattering the notion of what a celebrity chef looked like, and while some loved his tough guy image, others found him to be a bit much. Regardless, Anthony Bourdain made a name for himself on hit shows like "No Reservations" and "Parts Unknown." While he was always open about his own struggles, some of Bourdain's other statements were often controversial. He was not a fan of some of his fellow celebrity chefs, and his remarks about vegetarians were just outright confusing. Let’s take a look at why some people have said Anthony Bourdain led a double life.

He became what he despised. One of his shticks was sticking it to these "celebrity chefs" over and over again and saying what sellouts they are. It was painful to read what he wrote about Mark Bittman, who is a prolific cookbook author. He apparently lightened his views in later years, how could he not? He was living the same life they were! If anything he was even more popular than many of them. The "Parts Unknown" show on CNN had the highest selling ad space of any show on the channel.

Well said Seaman's. I find that being judgmental is just another form of critical thinking. I find that teachers are very judgmental as a group, because we are called upon to make decisions constantly in order to make the right call. Judgmental people live in their own form of discontent. He is gone now. We all have our battles to fight. When a person is judgmental that comes from a place of low self-esteem and having been judged and put down.

Depression has no religion. It has to do with our brain. It isn't evil or good. It can be managed, but there are times where we feel hopeless because it's never-ending. It's not curable. I liked Anthony Bourdain a lot, and he never held anything back, and always
was very direct, and told it like it was, even if not politically correct. Sometimes
you wonder if someone wanted him dead, and hung him, to make it look like
a suicide ? It's possible. It's hard to believe someone would take their own life
after overcoming all the hardships he did in his life -drugs, alcohol, poverty.
If he broke up with his girlfriend, and was drinking heavy, I can see him spiraling
into a deep depression, as alcohol is a central nervous system depressant. I do
wonder why some very rich celebrities who appear to have it all, take their lives,
and most do so on drugs and booze.
I'll miss his down to earth style, and his Sunday shows, as the rest of the stuff on
TV, is not worth watching anymore. RIP Tony--hope your in a better place.

In the subsequent years he had become very professionally successful and financially comfortable with a bright outlook for the future. Moreover he had married and fathered a daughter whom he was very proud of. I don't believe he wanted to give all that up after having worked so hard for it!

Around 1985-86 I would see Anthony frequently in the pubs and rock clubs in Long Island and Manhattan. In the afternoon he would be the first person sitting at the bar in New Hyde Park and by evening he would be stumbling around the rock clubs on Bleecker Street in Manhattan. He was a depressed loner and chronic alcoholic and wasn't 1\2 as friendly as his television persona. He loved chatting with bartenders and kitchen staff but never spoke to other patrons except to bum cigarettes. To be honest, I didn't much like him because he would never chat with me unless he was bumming cigarettes. The last time I saw him in person was in The Rock N Roll Cafe on Bleecker Street in Manhattan. I tried to chat him up because I was him everywhere I went from Long Island to Manhattan but the music was too loud. I gave him a Marlboro and the band was playing loud so he shrugged his shoulders and spun on his feet at walked away, never saw him again in person. 27 years later I was shocked to see him a television star. I remember him as a loner and depressed alcoholic bar fly who always dressed in blue jeans and wife beaters. He was nowhere near as affable in person as his television persona. Quiet, lonely, alcoholic Rock n Roller who loved staggering around on Bleecker Street in the Village. I was shocked when I saw him on television and never realized he was intelligent and well spoken and cultured. Back when I used to see him he seemed to be an alcoholic wall flower! RIP Anthony!

Maybe because humans have a tendency to avoid rejection, depending of the impression we get from the other human in front of us(based on lack of confidence or cloth or looks)but when we gain some status, usually financially, this make us think that we can talk to anybody or do anything, so sad, that our arrogance, ego and physical needs get bigger when our soul and respect for God's commands gets smaller till our spirit almost leaves our body, keep God in you, meditate in him and your life will be so worth living it, you will never want to ended! God exist and so the devil, satan is here to cause pain and destruction, the Lord Jesus wants to preserve you eternally!!!
Believe in God, he loves you.

Da !, Hello his Daddy was a record exec with Columbia Records and his mommy was an editor with The New York Times, she didn't deliver it. I am more than certain his mom and pop would help him , he knows which doors to open. No rags on this guy.

That is not double life if he was talking about and quite open to write about it ! Not every addict kills himself, so we should just say that we don’t really know what happened ? Did he have any history of harming himself that the family knows about? Just wait till his mom or brother speaks out and stop digging out dirt on him. He was contributing as a wonderful human being while alive and now I hope he has peace and happiness that he rightfully deserves 🙏🏻🕊

Hey Nicky, your video on Anthony Bourdain was second to none. I watched his show all the time and I feel sad that he's no longer with us. I ask God to give his family especially hid daughter strength to deal with this trouble situation.
