Thanks as always for your perspective. I find enjoyment from many "take that" games but that's because I mainly play for competition. I love games where I'm expecting my opponent to try to take me out and I have to strategize around that fact. Like martial arts for the brain.
Im getting rid of my copy and just keeping 7 Wonders Duel. Idk. I think for me its just more simple even though some things are simplified here. There is just something special about the original. We use the Pantheon expansion, and with that, the original is just that much better.
I really appreciate your perspective. I find zero joy in most "take that" games elements. It just feels cheap of of the time. "I can't out strategize you, so I'll ruin everything you've been working on!". No thanks.
Thanks for your perspective. My wife and I didn’t like regular 7W Duel either because of some of the harshness. Was hoping this version would be different. Appreciate the care bear perspective.
Quick question of the not relevant variety; is there a Seti review coming out soonish, saaay... next week? It's recently become available but I'd like to dig a little deeper into it before I actually get it. Spots on shelves are pretty coveted these days. I'll have to move to a palace pretty soon if I'm going to fit everything. Is the castle in Malta still available?
oh also i'm hoping for a seti runthrough to get filmed and posted before december :) life on the road in mexico has made things a bit more complicated! also you should expect star trek captain's chair very soon as well!
I wonder if you would feel this same way about games if you were playing with a similar age guy friend, rather than your wife. I get it being distasteful when you know the other person will feel deflated and take it personally. But when people are in it for the game, the for competition, it just doesn’t come with any of those bad feelings. Like in sports, you’re not mad they are blocking your shot or stealing the ball. It’s part of the game.
nope, this is a pretty universal thing for me no matter who i'm playing with that i don't want to mess with their stuff :) i'm happy to race, i'm happy to compete for common resources, but i really dislike reaching across the table and kicking down your personal sand castle :)
I would argue that this version is not more thematic than 7 wonders as claimed in the video. Not by a far shot. Everything one does in 7 wonders duel makes thematic sense. You build structures that produce things, there is an economy in place in 7 wonders that is gone from LOT. Building wonders is far more strategic than building the landmarks. Wining by having most point totally makes sense but is removed from LOT. LOT forces players to invest in military since all the landmarks award u with towers and units. I think that conclusion that lOT is more mean and therefore worse then 7W is just to shallow of an analysis.
not a bad idea, but he's already set for doing dead cells in december. kimberly would do a great job, but she broke her foot and is taking a break at the moment! :(
I am with you on this game. I've played this several times and each time underwhelmed me especially with the LOTR theming. I never felt like this game really encapsulated LOTR apart from the artwork (which for me is not what "theme" is). The decision space also never felt satisfying. Once one player was able to get a strong lead on green cards, that constituted their best strategy. In addition, the "area control" was essentially trading pawns back and forth so the "fighting" was very deterministic with no interesting substructure to make it interesting or dynamic. I much prefer the tug of war aspect of 7 Wonders Duel to the racing mechanic which in theory is thematic but is mostly represented in a tactile manner but not much in the gameplay itself. Overall, (as you can tell) I found this game very dull and I am surprised at the praise it's received. Obviously, others will disagree but I felt it was not a great game. On the bright side, it was easy to teach and very pretty so that's something.
Hardest working man in board games
I like it. I found it more streamlined than the 7 Wonders version.

@@BobLee-df4zh but in times of war you never know whats gonna ruin your perfect strategy 😜. Makes sens doesn’t it.
Love this game❤. Sure you mess a little with other players plans, but it is not a problem because it is so tactical and intense.

Perhaps you could get RTFM to cover this on your channel.

@ tell Kimberly that sometimes you just gotta put your best foot forward!
