I don't see a lot of movies over the years but this one has to be one of my favorites of all time. The writer, the director, the actors, the story ... it is art.
Wow!!This scene reminds me of me in Los Angeles in 1987 -88 when I ran out of my house at 16.and left my mom and little brother😪How they must of felt? This part brought me back when I was a troubled kid and didn't have direction..Sorry Mom for all I've put you through and I'm sorry to my little brother Marvin for not being the big brother I should have been!!!😒 I'm 51 now and it hurts seeing this...
My parents are from michoacan and they brought me to the states when I was only a baby 5 months old this hit home, I got involve in streets gangbaning and selling but the lord Jesus Christ showed me a different way
Chucho is lucky he had a short, fat out of shape nice guy mexican dad who he could easily put to the ground and beat . i'm 45 years old and my father is 75 years old and still a Puerto Rican mountain of a beast who i would not dare to fuck with till this day . love you pops ... i have always respected my parents struggle .. and when i ever felt frogy all my dad had to do was look at me and thats all it took .never put a hand on me once and im glad he dident. love you pops and thanks for makeing me a respectful man.
Yo, those short out of shape of Mexican laborers got an insane center of gravity though, dog 😂 But my Mexican ass dad was a 5'10" rancher raised by a Mexican ranger that actually experienced indian raids so what do I know lol Rough latino upbringings 🤷🏽♂️

Im a 1st gen Mexican American. Which means that our parents were born in Mexico. It was hard. But now that I’m older (24). They just wanted us to do better. On behalf of all of us jefitos. I’m sorry I couldn’t do you proud, but this country is all about capitalism. I’m sorry ama y apá 😞
I guess what is going on here is that Jose Sanchez expectations for his children was to be more than what he is, a simple gardener. However, I'm sure Jesus Sanchez faced a new problem that his father was unaware of. Chuchos opportunities were limited due to his race and didn't like the hand he was being dealt and rather go all out. All his life he has been walking the thin line between life and death. It was beginning to finally catch up to him and there was nothing anyone could do. To his father working hard was nothing and to see his boy insult his struggles would piss off any man. It always takes a woman's touch to make a man back off from violence but more so it being his mother. His disrespect to his family was the final nail on his coffin to seal his fate.
In the US, a chicano will only be a tercero. First is the Anglo Saxon then the Afroamericano. In third place, the Hispanic(usually Mexican American). But always fearful because of his Latinamerican Catholic background. Or a chicano can rebel, become a bandit/guerrillero and roam all over Latin America.
" Money makes the world go 'round." We all bought into this man made game, as old as time. Think about it, the creators made the rules therefore they bend, break and change them to fit their purpose, the rest of us are playing catch up.
Always has to be a woman in the background screaming -_- but yeah the dad's right and the son as well about the money part but if I would have heard him say that about Mexicans I would have done something. .. either way this movie has always been my favorite from the other Chicano movies
It took me forever to realize that Chucho was also Bob from La Bomba
that's why i came here LOL.
Oh shitttt
They are literally the same character.
La Bamba*
Damn bro!! How did you miss that these are classics
Incredible acting by Esai Morales. Extremely versatile & convincing actor ! Orale !
he is so underrated
He may be Puerto Rican but damn he plays perfect Chicanos.

one of the few scenes that made me feel like my own dad was talking to me. it hit home.
Yeah. When his dad tells him about his brother and says "in the navy" it always reminds me of the arguments I'd had with my parents.
@@imtalkingtoyou1841 sucks cuz they compare and make him feel inferior
Same
I think almost every Mexican-American person has felt this way at one point or another sometime in their lives.
Almost every mexican american has felt selling drugs and getting arrested? Nah you're wrong for that. You keep that stereotype alive though.
For real

Damm right!
Boy how times have changed, look at us now! Growing, selling and smoking legally marijuana. We were raised in a world that doesn’t exist no more.
And how I wish that we lived back in those days. People that resort to that lifestyle are the scum of the earth.
Damn this scene always hits hard. I was like jimmy in this scene growing up, seeing relatives fight and get locked up. Sad times.
Shit hits home to the fullest.... me and my pops.... love you dad...

One of the best movies ever made
They're both wrong. You can make money with dignity. But dignity alone isn't enough to make it in this country. You need money in order to survive.
3:19 my little brother seeing me shoved in the back of a police car in the early 2000s. This movie is always relatable in any era.
Speaking the truth feels so good but leads to so much shit
Kristen Keeney you got that right ! lol

A powerful scene in this movie. Unfortunately some people like to take the easy way out to get ahead in this world.
