To me, he was one of the last great hard-rock Hammond B3 players although he was more than that because he also played a pretty fearsome slide guitar as well. When I was growing up in the 1970s there was Jon Lord from Deep Purple and there was Ken Hensley from Uriah Heep. There were other well-known keyboard players like Keith Emerson and Rick Wakeman but they were more PROG than the hard rock and Heavy Metal that Purple and Heep were known for. Ken Hensley and Jon Lord followed a similar path, Jon had his Concerto for Group and Orchestra and Ken had the epic Salisbury showing their imaginations knew no bounds when it came to creating great music. So although they were both great Hammond players, Ken Hensley was also a fantastic songwriter and he was a key part of Uriah Heep’s global success. Hensley was not afraid to take the band in different directions either and he soon became the main songwriter for the band. The band was pushed really hard in the early 70s to release two albums per year and Hensley rose to the occasion even recording his brilliant solo album Proud Words on a Dusty Shelf in 1973. Every studio album in those golden years is a classic to me, Very Eavy, Very Umble, Salisbury, Look At Yourself, Demon & Wizards, The Magicians Birthday, Wonderworld, Live 1973, Sweet Freedom, Return to Fantasy, High & Mighty, Firefly, Innocent Victim, Fallen Angel and Conquest. My favourite moments are from the Live 1973 album, the slide guitar playing on Tears in Your Eyes, the Hammond / keyboards on July Morning and the incredible soloing on Gypsy. Some albums did make some Heep fans wonder where they were heading but albums like High and Mighty has some brilliant songs on them. Fallen Angel saw them go quite poppy but there were superb songs to be found, Falling In Love, Whad’ya Say and Fallen Angel. Then there evergreen classics like Rain, Circle of Hands, The Wizard, Easy Livin, Steelin, Pilgrim, Free Me, Wonderworld and the huge international hit Lady in Black. Phil Aston
To my mind only 3 people could make a Hammond B3 sing and we have lost them all. All 3 brilliant composer's, Ken had the edge with his voice and guitar.
@@zezee8591 Yes I agree this is not so much about technical virtuosity that might be better revealed on a piano, but rather about exploring the nature of the instrument (B3) and extracting the most of its sonic potential. Creating a new quality, a unique sound. Hensley, Lord and Greg Allman were masters of that. How strange and ironic that another B3 great master John Mayall lives on, plays and even tours, having been born in 1933 (sic), being musical father to Clapton. The three mentioned above could almost have been hic children and still we lost them already.

I lived next door to the Hensleys in stevenage Hertfordshire and was good friends with Trevor one of his brothers our families were always chatting Ken had left home but he came back visiting I'll always remember him blasting sounds from the kerboard in the front room whilst playing with Ken and remember how tall he was I was 8 at the time untill 13 years old when they moved. Couldn't believe he was in uriha heap when I grew up and saw him rest in peace Ken god bless your family and friends you certainly had a big influence in the World of rock.

I remember when I bought Magicians Birthday in the 70s and seeing Ken's big laugh on the picture inside the record cover always left me with impression of him being such a cool musician. В задней части два задних колеса и продольно два поршевских оппозитника: один перед колёсами и за ними (навстречу первому), трансмиссия полностью электрическая. Суммарная мощность с учётом 2-х ДВС, небольшого блока аккумуляторов и интегрированных в диски 4-х колёс электромоторов - 2700 л.с. и 3500 нм крутящего момента! Этот кузов получил имя URIAH HEEP "Demons and Wizards" по названию моей любимой рокгруппы и одного из её красивейших альбомов. Далее эта концепция стала развиваться и вылилась в: - URIAH HEEP "Magician's Birthday" - 3-х местный 5-ти колёсный гипер-спорткар тримаран. Суммарная мощность 3700 л.с. 5000 нм крутящего момента. - DEEP PURPLE - 3-х местный 5-ти колёсный гипер-спорткар. Суммарная мощность 4000 л.с. и 5500 нм крутящий момент. - LED ZEPPELIN - 5-ти местнй кроссовер (суммарная мощность 3000 л.с. и 4000 нм крутящий момент). Кроме этого, 3-х местное спорт купе представительского класса ПЁТР-1 с дизайнерским стилем Кадиллаков конца 50-х, начала 60-х. Характеристики те же, что и у DEEP PURPLE. У каждого кузова индивидуальные дизайнстиль и цветовая гамма (DP - тёмный пурпур с золотой отделкой и пурпурной подсветкой, LZ - серебристый полумат, как материал дирижаблей с серым лаком и тёмносерый полумат (свинец) с тёмным хромом и синей светодиодной подсветкой. А URIAH HEEP каждый в цветовой гамме соответствующего альбома с яркозелёной или синей-красной светодиодной подсветкой. На неподвижных колпаках передних колёс, полностью закрывающих ниши колёс огромный золотой логотип "UH" с яркой тонкой светодиодной окантовкой. На боковине центрального обтекателя задних колёс крупная надпись золотом с тонкой светящейся окантовкой фирменным шрифтом URIAH перед колпаком колеса, HEEP за ним, во весь колпак заднего колёса - крупно групповой портрет музыкантов Uriah Heep "золотого" состава 1971-1974 г.г. с тонкой светодиодной окантовкой. По продольной осевой каждого обтекателя светящееся ребро (яркозелёное на "Demons and Wizards", синее или красное на "Magician's Birthday". На заднем обтекателе из ребра вырастает самолётный сетящийся хвост, в концевике которого логотип UH. Сзади, в огромном диффузоре заднего обтекателя среднего корпуса светится название альбома. Три основных проекции и вид "3 четверти" URIAH HEEP "Demons and Wizards", напечатанные на ватмане А2 в цвете с описанием я подарил Кену после концерта в БКЗ "Октябрьский" в Санкт-Петербурге 6-го апреля 2019 г. Через два дня Хенсли прислал на мой e-mail восторженное письмо и желание получить в собственность такое авто: "Я первый в очереди, когда Вы начнёте производство" - заявил Кен! Я поздравлял Кена с Днём Рождения, с Новым Годом, он отвечал, всё было хорошо. Последний раз я общался с Кеном Хенсли 24-го августа 2020-го. Я поздравил Кена с 75-ти летием, пожелал отличного, крепкого здоровья и подарил по e-mail 3D модели моих проектов URIAH HEEP и LED ZEPPELIN. Кен поблагодарил меня и выразил восхищение получившимися моделями! Когда я 20-го сентября выразил свою скорбь и соболезнование по поводу раннего ухода Ли Керслейка, Кен не ответил! Я подумал тогда, что он очень занят и ему не до меня. А он, вероятно, уже болел и плохо себя чувствовал! И, вот, теперь... I introduced that song to my young grandson. He immediately adopted the nickname, the Wizard. This music spans generations.

@@СергейАпрелев-щ4ч есть до сих пор живые и американцы которые дополнили англичан...но англичане первичны...Кен говорил что его потрясла смерть Гэри Тейна в декабре 75 года а затем и смерть Байрона в 85 году

Сергей, я потрясён и опечален! Я знал Кена лично. С Миком Боксом и Ли Керслейком тоже встречался и фотографировал их и с ними в первые приезды в СССР в декабре 1987-го и в марте 89-го.
А с Хенсли познакомился ближе в 2004-м, когда провожал его с женой Моникой в аэропорт Пулково после концерта в Санкт-Петербурге. А потом, на концерте в С.П-б, подарил ему напечатанный на ватмане А2 свой проект гипер-споррткара 2-местного тримарана URIAH HEEP "Demons and Wizards". Кену очень понравилось, он был в восторге! После этого переписывались по e-mail.

I had every album except live they put out through the seventies. I wore the grooves and grooved with the moves. I loved the fantasies and the wisdom of his lyrics. RIP, Ken. The metaphor of the wizard and birth of the magician live on.

конец 60-середина 80-х золотая эпоха в мелодике от хард-рока.... Патом панеслось. Метла, и другие. Впрочем -это был прорыв,но это совсем другая музыка. Я крутил на своём плейре всё что можно. Сейчас остарел музыки хватет на ЮТубе

Какая ужасная потеря для нашего поколения, выросшего в 70-е на музыке Великих . которого на продольной оси сидит пилот, за ним пассажир. В задней части два задних колеса и продольно два поршевских оппозитника: один перед колёсами и за ними (навстречу первому), трансмиссия полностью электрическая.
Суммарная мощность с учётом 2-х ДВС, небольшого блока аккумуляторов и интегрированных в диски 4-х колёс электромоторов - 2700 л.с. и 3500 нм крутящего момента!
Этот кузов получил имя URIAH HEEP "Demons and Wizards" по названию моей любимой рокгруппы и одного из её красивейших альбомов. Далее эта концепция стала развиваться и вылилась в:
- URIAH HEEP "Magician's Birthday" - 3-х местный 5-ти колёсный гипер-спорткар тримаран. Суммарная мощность 3700 л.с. 5000 нм крутящего момента.
- DEEP PURPLE - 3-х местный 5-ти колёсный гипер-спорткар. Суммарная мощность 4000 л.с. и 5500 нм крутящий момент.
- LED ZEPPELIN - 5-ти местнй кроссовер (суммарная мощность 3000 л.с. и 4000 нм крутящий момент).
Кроме этого, 3-х местное спорт купе представительского класса ПЁТР-1 с дизайнерским стилем Кадиллаков конца 50-х, начала 60-х. Характеристики те же, что и у DEEP PURPLE.
У каждого кузова индивидуальные дизайнстиль и цветовая гамма (DP - тёмный пурпур с золотой отделкой и пурпурной подсветкой, LZ - серебристый полумат, как материал дирижаблей с серым лаком и тёмносерый полумат (свинец) с тёмным хромом и синей светодиодной подсветкой.
А URIAH HEEP каждый в цветовой гамме соответствующего альбома с яркозелёной или синей-красной светодиодной подсветкой. На неподвижных колпаках передних колёс, полностью закрывающих ниши колёс огромный золотой логотип "UH" с яркой тонкой светодиодной окантовкой. На боковине центрального обтекателя задних колёс крупная надпись золотом с тонкой светящейся окантовкой фирменным шрифтом URIAH перед колпаком колеса, HEEP за ним, во весь колпак заднего колёса - крупно групповой портрет музыкантов Uriah Heep "золотого" состава 1971-1974 г.г. с тонкой светодиодной окантовкой. По продольной осевой каждого обтекателя светящееся ребро (яркозелёное на "Demons and Wizards", синее или красное на "Magician's Birthday". На заднем обтекателе из ребра вырастает самолётный сетящийся хвост, в концевике которого логотип UH. Сзади, в огромном диффузоре заднего обтекателя среднего корпуса светится название альбома.
Три основных проекции и вид "3 четверти" URIAH HEEP "Demons and Wizards", напечатанные на ватмане А2 в цвете с описанием я подарил Кену после концерта в БКЗ "Октябрьский" в Санкт-Петербурге 6-го апреля 2019 г. Через два дня Хенсли прислал на мой e-mail восторженное письмо и желание получить в собственность такое авто: "Я первый в очереди, когда Вы начнёте производство" - заявил Кен!
Я поздравлял Кена с Днём Рождения, с Новым Годом, он отвечал, всё было хорошо.
Последний раз я общался с Кеном Хенсли 24-го августа 2020-го. Я поздравил Кена с 75-ти летием, пожелал отличного, крепкого здоровья и подарил по e-mail 3D модели моих проектов URIAH HEEP и LED ZEPPELIN. Кен поблагодарил меня и выразил восхищение получившимися моделями!
Когда я 20-го сентября выразил свою скорбь и соболезнование по поводу раннего ухода Ли Керслейка, Кен не ответил! Я подумал тогда, что он очень занят и ему не до меня. А он, вероятно, уже болел и плохо себя чувствовал!
И, вот, теперь...
Ведь, больше никогда я не увижу Кена, его изборождённое морщинами благороднок лицо,, "не красавца" но так много понимающего в жизни и в музыке мудрого человека, по-настоящему внутренне красивого мужчину! Никогда больше я не услышу этот спокойный, красивый мужественный голос!
