Some friends and myself made a run down Alamance creek from Alamance to Belmont in tubes with canoe paddles and the water was about a foot from going over the bank at that point. That area has high banks so the water is deep through there, and it was very calm and relaxing. Getting out took some planning but worked great. Glad we did it but probably won't again. Really interesting video, thanks. Not that I want to seem like a nanny, but I feel in that solo excursion, you probably should have been running with a helmet too. At +25 feet of water, there is a lot of unfamiliar terrain under your kayak and a head strike is very likely should you roll.

Between Bull sluice and Woodall Shoals. Back then I breathed whitewater paddling. Stay safe!
Around the banks and edges of the river and below the dam looked pretty intense for sure. Nice flat and fairly fast ride in the middle though. Cool trip!
Went down the lower Haw after hurricane Fran. Pretty much washed out but still some big waves and hydraulics and were easily avoidible. Very dangerous none the less. Getting a swamped canoe to shore thru the trees would have been tough. Picked up about half a dozen Box turtles going down. lots of corned eyed brown trout out there too

Try kayaking through a storm drain system from one lake to another that is just wide enough for a kayak and while in the tunnels the water begins to rise and you no where near the exit. Loads of fun when it isn't just you and your with 5 other kayaks. Your paddle is broken down and inside the kayak and your scooting along while crouched down inside your kayak.

Thanks for taking the time to comment. I also really appreciate the concern. Im sorry you feel this way. I looked at your channel to see your boating background. You had no content, but I noticed you are in a sit on top kayak with a dog essentially in your lap. If that is your level of comfort/safety that you strive for then you will never understand the mind of an adventure kayaker who has spent years running the most challenging water around. We may just be too far apart on the spectrum to come to any common ground on what is acceptable to be attempted in a kayak. That being said. Boaters are regularly fished out of flooded rivers. Why? They do not understand the dangers involved with a flooded river. I also fling myself off +40' waterfalls. I paddle class 5 whitewater. You could also make a case that these activities are irresponsible. The thing is, if I make a video depicting my hucking off a waterfall or running a class 5 river such as Russel Fork Gorge (which claims lives every year), most people have a built in inhibitor from trying that. However, oftentimes the flooded rivers do not present the same visual deterrent to the inexperienced paddler. My objective was to show the audience the dangers involved with paddling in these conditions. Educating lesser experienced, or lesser skilled, or lesser informed boaters is not irresponsible...at least in my opinion. I knew the run, was skilled enough for the run, and had the gear set to do the run. In my opinion, my actions and the video are not irresponsible. I'm not sure as to your level of skill and experience, resume of rivers you have run, training in swiftwater rescue, how many thousands of miles you have logged in your boat, etc...but if you are interested in making an adventurous run on a more challenging river than you have yet attempted, let me know. I will be happy to take you out! Thanks for watching and thanks for the concern.
@@RiverKingsKayak Ok, that is not a fair statement. You do not know me. I don't put my stuff on my channel nor record unless I have my granddaughter or dog with me. What you see in the pic is me on my own 3 foot deep pound playing around. You also notice that the dog has a life vest on. Just because I don't youtube doesn't mean i can't or don't do it. Thanks but please don't assume because i have no videos that i don't or can't do something. :) i do not doubt that you don't have the skills for what you were doing. I also live in a flood area and know what I can do. I just think when you see logs floating along it might be time to get out of the water. That was very dangerous and anything could have gone wrong even with experience.
I also would like to say I do enjoy your camping videos. We do a ton of kayak camping on the river too and really enjoy it. I think alot of people thing kayaking is only for fishing or a one day down the river and they are great for camping several nights out too.
I hope I did not come off wrong in my comment. I was merely trying to find a common starting point to address the issue. Doing crazy things in a kayak is not for everybody and I was merely trying to convey that I understand that. I was trained and taught both in kayaking and otherwise to do the dangerous things in the safest way possible. I do always strive for that. I agree that there are so many facets to kayaking...there is something for everybody and everything. I appreciate your viewership!

I am a very experienced kayaker and this video is so irresponsible. sorry but to do something and say dont you do it is just wrong. gad your ok and no problems but i hope this doesn't encourage others to try it too.
@@RiverKingsKayak oh no you didn't. its all good. if you ever get to oklahoma let me know and we can do some kayaking. :)
This was very very stupid
As is every class 5 river and 40' waterfall I run...
River Kings true, I guess we all have stupid stuff we do you have your and I have mine
@@reidwitt1168 the trick is to be so prepared and so skilled that you take the stupid out of the equation!
River Kings yes you had people knowing where you were going, ton of experience, and top of the line gear
You're stupid yourself!
