The way Joe terms certain mechanical cues is fascinating. Nothing scientific just simple concepts that make sense to him.

So did I, only longer. I never knew how to spot or control a 94/95 mph fastball. Back when I was in college, the advice was. . "just REAR back and THROW that heater, son." Sure, shit. The most frustration I've ever known in life.

Loved it when he says that’s not it, try again and that’s not it, again that’s not it. That’s a feeling that takes a lot of time to get and be able to repeat it.

I think the most important takeaway is that he spent so much time thinking about his mechanics and the feel .

@@clb3728 the last year, I have been thinking that the mental game is far more important than the physical game. As a coach, I seen more progress teaching fundamentals while being in the mental mentality/ flow state than doing it the hard way . The hard way being push drill after drill.

Short arming the ball-they used to say that’s how you hurt yourself. Apparently not! If it’s more efficient mechanically then you’re less likely to hurt yourself. As a musician I can see how it applies to what I do-what’s best mechanically may not look the best, the most graceful.

In disc golf the amount of reach-back needed and comfortable with throwing is a big deal. I think too often in peer teaching a needless very long reach is pushed to the point of losing smooth reproducibility.

Because most the power comes from legs and core strenght in pitching, very little from the arm . arm movement style makes less difference unless the guy is a drastic submarine pitcher

@@MrFlippin24catchers use all arm. The majority of your speed comes from the arm and upper torso. The pelvis goes then the lower body and then the arms.

I shorty armed the ball until my HS coach wouldn't allow it. Never had arm soreness while short arming. Contact got tendonitis and issues after using my whole arm. hitter had a arm time picking up the ball coming from my head. Harder to see

I think I subconsciously short armed it while pitching. My arm was almost never sore the day after. I think I picked that up from being a shortstop when I wasn't pitching. I consciously worked on short arming it when playing shortstop. Probably affected my pitching mechanics without me realizing it.

Does the podcast address effectiveness of this change? Because I see a 2022 ERA of 6.08 and 23 walks in 37 innings. WHIP is up, HR per 9 is up, and the only improvement is K's per 9. So short arming may have resulted in less effectiveness despite better velo
