    prior taking it apart I would suggest to take a A4 paper and make like a map on it where screws should go back.
    Maybe two pages :) for different places in a laptop. Also make a picture on how to place cables back.
    Get a wired anti-static device. Get some simple tools. Get a thermal paste (if you will remove fan and heat sink will be nice to reapply it too)
    Prepare and you will not need assembling video :)
    Have a good luck!

  • @regazzz
    @regazzz  12 лет назад

    You can try to do it that way too. (funny I forgot it)
    The only down side will be a problem that all cables will be plugged in to motherboard and you will not be able to remove it. Sometimes, on some model it is also hard to get to this screws that are holding a front bezel. Usually back covers are sold with wifi cables and antennas, in this case you will need to remove them and somehow glue old antennas back.
    Good luck with your laptop!

  • @regazzz
    @regazzz  11 лет назад

    If you are talking about silver one it should be a screw that holding it.
    Since plastic parts are very fragile in HP, it can be also that a screw hole is broken. After you will take it apart, you may glue or poxy this places if damages aren't huge. Or you can buy a new or used part to replace.
    But particular hinge cover is on screw, maybe only a screw got loose.

  • @regazzz

    In this case you will need to find a method to clean your fan. Try compressed air first, but hold fan, just to make sure it will not rotate a lot, or it can be damaged. If this will not help - you will need to take it apart, remove fan/heatsink and clean it, but this is serious work.

    It wasn't mentioned anywhere, but my 2011 model had the keyboard glued on. You can pry it gently with a narrow screwdriver or blade, but it's a real pain if you don't know about this as I spent ages for maybe a screw I missed on the back..

    • @regazzz
      @regazzz  11 лет назад

      If a keyboard is glued - this is a real pain!!
      And also, on some laptops (not g6, but some dv5) there is not a screw but some hook that holds a keyboard. This is even worse. You will be able check that there is no glue, but you will see some type of like a screw holding it ... this is huge!!!

    To get to a fan you will need to remove a keyboard and palmrest. Means you will need to remove pretty much all screws from the bottom.

  • @YeOldeKamikaze

    Got this model from a client for a repair and upgrade job. The WiFi module (ralink) had died and it was shorting out the rest of the motherboard, preventing it from booting up. It was in serious need for maintenance, you wouldn't believe how much dust was in it. The heat sink fins were clogged with caked up dust and dirt, causing it to constantly hit temps over 95ºC. That's pretty bad considering it was only an i3 CPU.
    I cleaned that sucker out, put on some fresh Arctic MX4 on the CPU, upgraded it with an SSD for the OS and now it's happily purring along and running Windows 10.

    • @YeOldeKamikaze
      @YeOldeKamikaze 3 года назад

      Oh, btw, the HDD retainer is funny because it's so gummy and has a pull tab, but I swear the thing would just rip out when pulled from there haha. I had to use parts of the case as leverage and apply a decent amount of force to remove the old HDD.

    • @regazzz
      @regazzz  3 года назад +1

      Yeah, there are so many laptops with similar thing. I especially hate the video cable pull, like on Asus zenbook ux31. Pull ribbon rips and you have to remove video cable somehow else.

      Nice job done. Also kudos to the owner who gave you this project as well, because usually people just throwing them away.
      I had similar overheating on friends g6 2nd gen. Clean up and arctic silver is magic!

    • @YeOldeKamikaze
      @YeOldeKamikaze 3 года назад

      @@regazzz Did that 2nd gen G6 have a socketed CPU? My client had the BGA (soldered) CPU version, so a CPU upgrade was out of the question. Still, the i3-370M is not that bad.
      On a side note: there's been an increased volume of old laptop repairs lately because of corona: people don't have money for a new laptop and the kids need one for attending school from home. Laptops are way too overpriced where I live, $500 only get you the most basic of pentium or athlon models.

    • @regazzz
      @regazzz  3 года назад +1

      @@YeOldeKamikaze it was a removable i3 but friend kept it and after clean up it was good enough for his kid. Yeah, current wfh situations helped I think the laptop repair business. I also refurbished my old MacBook A1278 non pro for my kid. Needed a new palmrest/keyboard/trackpad That means take it all the way apart for this model. But the screen is very good, bright, nice colors. I was lucky to find a great, like never used palmrest on eBay and everything works after replacement for relatively cheap.

  • @regazzz
    @regazzz  11 лет назад

    Yes you can. Try this first prior to take it apart. If it will not help - your choice what to do next :)
    Hold fan blades, don't let them spin a lot or they can be damaged.

  • @regazzz

    I would say that either you will try to use a canned air to blow dust and dirt away from a heat sink and fan and if this will not help you will need to replace a fan.
    First isn't that hard, because you will need to remove a keyboard and palmrest to be able to do so, but to replace fan you will need to remove a motherboard too.

    Don't know if this is video is of a US Pavilion g6 but it's not a European model.My customer blew in compressed air to clean the fan at the service station and the fan quit, suspect it was the moisture in the air gun, good for tyres not for electronics.FYI: black screen is a GPU fault, external monitor will also not work. I have stacks & stacks of HP laptops with this MoBo issue. HP gave US customer an extra 2 years warranty on their laptops a few years ago but refused it to any other country. My sister worked for HP Galway as a manager in the software bundle division and they even told her to take a hike. Tried reflowing solder on the GPU with very limited success. Best solution is Smith & Wesson at least you know it's beyond repair and get some satisfaction.

  • @regazzz

    Simply check if it works on external screen and if not, you may check that video cable plugged in. At motherboard and LCD by it self (if you disassembled LCD too) If it is connected well - it can be either bad cable or bad LCD. Cable cheaper.

      I am pretty sure there is no need on doing this type of video. Because this video will be enough to perform this repair.
      You will need to follow pretty much same steps to remove a palmrest and LCD by it self Motherboard can stay. Hard drive can stay, memory can stay. You maybe need to remove dvd drive, but it is not a big deal.
      After removing palmrest - remove LCD and watch how I took it apart. After that there will be a few additional steps to change hinges, but it isn't a big deal.
      Just be careful and remove battery and unplug from power source.

    I would think on fan and heatsink first. If you will got to a store and find some laptops working whole day there, basically idle almost whole day, you will notice they are also not cold.
    So, the dc jack is located on the right side, so there is less likely something wrong with chargers.
    G6 is pretty new laptop, but heatsink still can be dirty enough or maybe some other issues with fan or heatsink. Did you checked laptops temperature?

    You may use a rubber gloves. Don't wear some synthetic sweaters or t-shorts :) You better read about static electricity.
    Just be careful, remember every screw where it coming from. Don't hesitate to take pictures in case you need to assemble it back. Like that you will remember where all cable goes.
    If something is broken or does not start after assembling it back it will be your fault, not mine :)
    Have a good luck!

    I need to replace my CMOS battery. I'm glad you put an annotation for it but I don't see the annotation until you've basically taken the whole thing apart. Is it visible there when you remove that bottom middle part at the very beginning (0:25) and thus can I replace it just at that point?
    Also, I've had much trouble taking that middle panel off. The screws bend outward at the bottom and down screw off conventionally. Is the only way to get it off by using something like a knife to slip into it and snap it out like did? By doing this does actually break it or can I just snap it back in no problem?

    The part where you take out the surroundings of the keyboard out is easy and safe, but taking the keyboard out is scary. I don't wanna wreck my computer by making the keyboard never works. Any safer way? If there isn't I guess I'll have to do this.

      I can imagine how scary it can be doing it for the first time. I hope you will be able to fix your laptop without any huge mess.

    What I can tell, 55-56 isn't that bad, better 45-50 or less.
    If you do not use your laptop a lot, I don't think it can have a lot of dirt at heatsink. Depend on environment of course. If you are sure what you want to do, you may open it and look inside. Just make sure you will make note or pictures of every step you do. Use also some antistatic device, better wired.
    Don't mix screws. Make note where they are coming from.
    Read more about fixing laptops. To get a better picture!
    Have a good luck!

    I am pretty sure that any shop can do that, the other question how much it will cost. On the other hand if you will do that, you may brake something and don't even understand what... At the start I would probably suggest to understand do you really need higher cpu then A6, maybe it will be enough. Plus some type of warranty will be gone if you will open a laptop.

    Hi,
    screws are different, in G6 there is not a lot of screws, comparable to other laptops...
    Anyway, better place them in to a correct holes.

    Hi,
    it is either heatsink and fan are dirty or there is some other problems. 70C is not very hot, should work, does your fan operate at the time when it is 70C and shuts off?

    There are only to rotating things - one is fan and another is hard drive (I mean part inside of a hard drive) But you more likely have some fan problem. Either it is dying or it is dirty.

    Some static electricity can still go true gloves, plus in some cases it will be to hot and can be uncomfortable, on the other hand this device I use is also pretty much useless, because it is wireless. I would tell don't wear anything synthetic and if you will get at least some kind of wired ESD it will be a best thing.
    Have a good luck!

    It can be pretty much everything... do you hear fan spinning?
    I would say first check that memory and hard drive are in place. Also check that video cable is till plugged in.

    You will not be able to replace GPU, because it is glued/soldered to a board. But you can buy a bigger hard drive and you will need to install everything on it prior or after replacement.

    Please make a speaker fix ! There are loads of people saying that one of their speakers has stopped working but there are no videos that specifically target the speakers, everyone just takes everything else out but skips the speakers

    Normally connectors in laptops aren't simply pulled out, a catch or lever has to be adjusted first before the cable connector comes out.

    Hey, sorry for such late response. Yes, more likely you will need to remove palmrest and check for connections. If everything else is ruled out.

    Hello,
    you will need to do pretty much the same as I did in this video, probably can keep LCD in place... but you will need to remove motherboard, and that's why you will need to remove dvd hdd, you may leave memory, but it is not a big deal in this situation... don't forget about new termal paste, will be nice to re apply it.

  • @regazzz

    The whole part is a palmrest. If the connector that locks keyboard cable at motherboard is broken - it can be hard to replace.

    It can be different, just make sure you will have some antistatic device. Make sure you will remember where screws come from. Be gentle. Take some pictures of every place how it was before, cables etc. You may think you will remember, but usually it is not like that.
    Have a good luck and happy New Year!
    Sorry for late response.

    Great Video. Question : If I have to change the fan, do I need to disassemble the whole laptop ie. taking the hard drive, ram, etc...out or only the casing around? Thanks

  • @regazzz
    @regazzz  11 лет назад

    You may need to change thermal paste and check that heatsink is touching cpu gpu
