It is a absolute disgrace and disgusting that there are 15 who give thumbs to this remarkable recital! Gilels is one of the greatest pianists who had such control, talent and poise when he sat to play. What a gift he was to the glory of Classical Music!

Gilels was incredible, also check out Morton Estrin and Vladimir Sofronitsky them playing Symphonic Etudes. Stunning interpretations. Obviously, Gilels is right up there. Also Cortot.
I was in Leningrad in 1983, and saw this recital on Soviet television. It was broadcast in the spring, and was my consolation for never getting to hear Gilels live. He was a student of Heinrich Neuhaus, who was not at all "neurotic" about a wrong note here and there. Healthy attitude.
