Why You Should Play Tales of Vesperia Definitive Edition

  • While I may regret my choice of console for this game a little bit, I certainly don't regret picking up the game and playing it. The Tales series continues to be simply a solid gaming experience every time I play it, and I hope that continues with the newly announced Tales of Arise.

    I just finished the main story last week and it was amazing. The characters each have their own story and you bond with em better than some other more recent tales of games. The only thing I didn’t like, was with how the ending was handled. No spoilers no worries. But it could’ve been fleshed out more, but it was still a good ending. To those just playing it, so as much side quests as possible as these help flesh out the story of the characters and even learn about their past, and what they wish to do once everything settles,...there’s a lot you’ll find out by doing side quests that the main story won’t provide. It’s an adventure that I recommend to take your time with. Plus is you want to be a completionist, there is a checklist guide for the game as it’s split into 3 parts.

    What drew me to Vesperia is Symphonia. The best story in any game ever for me personally, so I tried Vesperia back when it came out and never liked it as much as Symphonia. But now I've played the definitive edition and its really really good. Way better than it was before and the end game is huge! And the combat in this game is alot of fun
    Berseria and Xilia didnt draw my attention because of their art styles. I feel like symphonia and vesperia much more believeable worlds. Amazing game Vesperia is.

      Playing Berseria actually makes me a little pissed off because the combat system is just absolutely inferior to the traditional Tales combat. I really dislike that all the face buttons are for your artes, and the flow of combos that way just doesn’t make sense too me. Like I genuinely can’t figure out a smooth string of combos incorporating all different artes in all the different placements in the combo sequences, and have the combo actually make sense. It’s just a fucking hot of a battle system. I thanked the lord when Arise came out and the combat mechanics had all be sort taken back to their roots but was still revamped enough to feel fresh and contemporary. I’m not sure how this is gonna land but, the only redeeming quality of Berseria is its story but even still I’d really rather not ever play it.

    From playing a good amount of RPGs I'd say Vesperia is worth playing for the overall story and action-RPG gameplay it offers, but not for the character driven plot, which is very messy (which I discovered on a revisit).
    Vesperia has a lot of good things but it does come with some flaws that hinder it from being a better RPG: it suffers from a lot of repetition in dialogue (it does help me understand, but a lot of people don't like how much it happens), lots of scenes are forgettable, and it is kinda aimless (refering back to character driven plot). but back to the good things, the overall story (about the blastia and barriers and their impact on the world) was very nice to see it develop and conclude.
    7:33 A lot of good stuff comes from synthesizing and it just demands mats that you can get from enemies in the map or dungeons, I would recommend to not skip it since it gives you many benefits and it's not too hard to complete said demands, of course others do require a more specific enemy or even a boss but it would still be very beneficial use the system even without synthesizing the more advanced weapons or equipment you can get.
    Overall, you did a pretty fair review, I expected more of this game when I played it since I was told it was the best in the series but it turned out to be a 7/10 game. I do like a lot of the scenes but most are not memorable, I like the cast a lot and I didn't mention gameplay: which I also like but dislike some stuff about it too. Vesperia is a nice game but could use some improvements to be a better RPG.

      Yeah the sales for the Tales of games especially on Steam are very generous. As to the save system yes you can only save at set save points and there is no auto save, I'm not sure I'd say hours in between saves though since I don't think I ever had problems with finding a good point to save. Obviously other people's experiences may differ though.

    Why you should play Tales of Vesperia Definitive Edition: because it’s one of the best Tales games ever made. There, saved you some time.
    Vesperia is a must play for anyone wanting to get into the series for the first time. It’s just similar enough to Symphonia that you still get a classic tales experience, specifically in the combat, but modern enough to not feel like a fucking slog.
    Personally the absolute MUST PLAYS for the series has gotta be Symphonia, Abyss, Vesperia, and Arise. Other’s I’d recommend trying would be Graces F, Xillia, and maaaaaaybe Zesteria. But the previous for titles I mentioned are absolutely must plays for the series. They just perfectly incapsulate what the series was, is, and will become further in the future. Absolutely quintessential titles for the series.

      So obviously a lot of it is personal opinion. I think combat wise and character wise Berseria is stronger, although that’s partially because I think Berseria is extremely good in those areas. The story of Vesperia is lighter in general but isn’t afraid to tackle some darker topics especially with their main character Yuri. I really enjoyed the world building in Vesperia and the environment is quite nice. Simply put it’s a really solid Tales of game, that in my opinion doesn’t quite reach Berseria’s level but is a worthwhile game to pick up if you enjoy the series.

      It is a Tales game so the action combat is very much rooted in the same ideas, however Vesperia's version of the system is quite different from Berseria"s. It's hard for me to say if it's different enough for you, this is why demos would be helpful

    Don't play this game after playing a game like Xenoblade Chronicles or any heavy lore, world ending plot kind of game. It ruined Vesperia for me. The only thing keeping me going is the main character and the individual character development because otherwise, there is nothing engaging about the plot. Town and overall exploration is also jarringly limited.

    • @CommRio
      @CommRio  4 года назад +2

      Greater standard bearer numbers would be my assumption. As big as Final Fantasy is, it won't hit the numbers Call of Duty does and so it's somewhat by comparison. Budget considerations probably also factor in, but I don't know how much.

    • @hemangchauhan2864

      1. Return on Investment : If I put a lot of effort and money into making and selling something, it should give me more money
      Development cost + Marketing cost for JRPG like Vesperia is lower than something like Battleborn. So 1 million copies sold is likely to cover the cost of Vesperia.
      2. Scope of game : Vesperia is aimed at core RPG and JRPG fans, that have experience with genres. These people are less in number compared to general gaming audience. So selling 1 million copies is _comparetely_ impressive.

    This game makes me want to cry, I was tricked by this video and it being a fan favorite and spent 50 bucks. You absolutely cannot animation cancel or input more than one command at a time. You are at the mercy of lengthy and clunky combat animations that the developers clearly thought looked fancy. Not to mention you spend most of your time recovering from damage stun-locked by enemies in a 5v1, the healing is op and easily keeps you alive but it's frustrating not having control of your character because you're constantly stun-locked. Every animation must finish completely before you can even consider inputting another button command. The combat is painful and easily the worst I've seen in any game, especially when your enemies follow a very different and seemingly fluid combat combat system seamlessly merging their animations. I can't believe that wasn't mentioned in this video. The combat alone was enough for me to set the game down at 1 hour of gameplay which is really disappointing because I want to like the game.

    • @mng8680
      @mng8680 4 года назад +15

      This game has a mechanic called manual cancelling which isnt explained in the tutorial, it allows you to end your attack recovery animation early so you can do combos normally not possible. You have to set your controlled character in manual mode to be able to do manual cancel, not the default mode semi-auto which youre likely using. I suggest you look up RUclips videos on it, cause your criticisms tells me youre lacking understanding of how the game works.
