One question. If it was so rough, how did the paragliders do out there? I saw a couple in the background, including one that was equal to or higher than you (at 16:10-14).I thought those things could have a wing collapse in very rough air.
You have more control authority when your hang strap length puts you lower. When I flew a T2 I was barely above the control bar and it worked out great. Try that out and you probably wouldn't go back to using a high hang point.
Thank you for your information regarding the hanging points. I have a standard hanging loop with a standard harness line, so to go lower I would need a longer hanging loop than standard. Did I make a longer loop? Sorry for the trouble, but thank you in advance.
@@skyhighjp exactly right , plus the endless landing zone guaranteed a forgiving approach . I'm not remembering a large flat LZ like this in 30 years of flying , buildings , trees , powerlines , rivers , lakes and cow fences were always reason for last moment excitement , even at top condition days :)
Super cool video. I almost tumbled on a sport 3 a couple of weeks ago in Mexico. I bent a downtube in the violent snap, and I thank God this did not affect the structure but nonetheless I was able to land.My mistake flying full VG in totally rough air
@@skyhighjp Not at all! I have a bad shoulder which hurts when pulling the VG cord...I thought I could get away (and did for some time) leaving VG on all the time but found out the hard way on the wrong day.....never again!
Is it a shoulder injury? Please take care of yourself. I too have been diagnosed with a "torn tendon disc" in my right shoulder, but as I am 70 years old, I do not want to have surgery, so I have left it as it is.
@@skyhighjp What, you're 70? Why you crazy old coot, flying in such turbulent conditions!!! I can't imagine doing that at 70 ...mostly since I'm just starting out at age 69 and probably will never reach your level. But I'm still gonna try!

If listen on the take off. You can hear such turbulence winds. Also flying site terain landscape looks of the turbulent kind. Weather climate around the world is not on the normal side of things too.
One of "those flights"; Soaring gracefully like a bird or smooth as Superman. Not so much! More work and angsiety at the office than pure joy of flight. Maybe I shoud go and land ? I wonder how that will end ? :) :) .
Wow. Turbulent air and bad camera setup makes me sick. I think it wasn't that turbulent but the pilot overreacting makes it looks like. Less speed will make flying in such conditions more comfortable.
There were times when it was worse, but I am now 70 years old and my body is not in good condition, so I can no longer control it. I apologize for the unsightly video.
@@VTSifuSteve My wife knows that I've been flying since I was 21. We've flown tandem a few times in the past. But we don't do it together, because she has a lot of other hobbies.
Thank you for your comment. It wasn't that bad considering the more intense airflow, but the difference between the top and bottom of the vario was significant.
That looked like 20 minutes of HORROR - but you pulled it off - RESPECT

No metter what some thinking it was pretty chalenging. You-ve handel it well. Congratilation.
Thank you for your comment. It's encouraging.
what is the string he was unraveling at 0540? Some kind of trim?
This is called a VG line, and it is a string that changes the performance of the glider by slightly widening or narrowing the wings.
You did well though
Looked hard to get down

What is that slide whistle sound? I’ve heard it in other videos too, and it reminds me of a SpongeBob episode.
Happy new year..Have fun and fly safe!

Pretty rough, but not severe, you didn't get tossed into the keel or go inverted 🤔😉
Thank you for your comment. It was intense in terms of my skill level. But it may not be a big deal to other people.

I've experienced more severe turbulence than this in my underpants!!
Telluride 😁
After you changed your shorts, you went right back up for another go- right.

Pro tip when you are not weighted on the straps you have no control. Tucked 1989 survived.
My lady said don't try hand gliding.
