In one of the episodes of I live alone, Key opens up about losing Jonghyun. He mentions how lost they felt when they had to rearrange everything to fit four and how it felt to have the main vocal missing. More than anything they have said, that really breaks my heart. And also makes me respect SHINee so much. They have really faced the biggest loss a group can go through, and they still strive to leave behind a legacy as five...always five. They say its a dream the five of them dreamt together, that the four of them will see to the end. So fun fact about this song: When EXO's Chen heard this song, his perspective on idol vocalists changed (back then in Korea people didn't really think highly of kpop vocals) which made him audition for SM later.
This is the song that made me finally say to my sister, who was desperately trying to get me into kpop, "Okay, I'm Shawol..." ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ Shawol since 2010, but my sister had been feeding me kpop songs including all of shinee's singles since debut... When I saw a the live performance they did on a radio show in 240p.... That was it. Hooked on both Onew and Jonghyun, and eventually the whole group. Onew's effortlessness as you say, was so appealing and beautiful.... But i am always so amazed with Jonghyun's voice.... Somehow, without knowing Korean, I could totally understand the emotions of the music he sang. Just through his voice! That was most appealing for me.... ❤ Jonghyun is my forever artist and top bias. ❤

I think it shows their personalities beautifully. Jonghyun was more extroverted so his movements are more dynamic. Whilst Onew is introverted so his movements are minimalistic. But both have voices angels would be jealous of.

What I always thought whenever I listen to SHINee is, Jonghyun’s voice touch me with it’s emotional, and Onew’s voice touch me with the pureness And of course, Key’s voice touch me with the straightforwardness Minho’s voice with it’s deep charisma, and Taemin’s voice with the mellow vibes, They have all what you need 😆
This is such a show off moment for both. Jonghyun must stay above Onew in every note. Onew must stay right below. Onew said a few years ago that Jonghyun was the best performer of his life. Onew was the calmer personality compared to Jonghyun’s emotional feeling of every word and note. Which makes for a great writer when you can tap into the depth of emotions. Jonghyun wrote so each member grew and was challenged. He found the individual color of each member which is why you see a progression in the songs and the lines given to each. This is a beautiful piece every time I see it. Oh, to compare them to NSYNC isn’t fair Justin would never give lines away or write to show off the others. Total different dynamic. Comparing Jonghyun to Justin Timberlake is such a disservice to Jonghyun. JT was not even a good vocalist (not a respectable man either), and not the main vocalist in nsync. Jonghyun was THE main vocalist and was regarded as one of top 5 vocalists in kpop. Aside from his impeccable range and technique, people are drawn into him because of the emotions he can convey with his voice. You can just feel everything when he’s singing even if you cannot understand the language. His solo works are full of vocal acrobatics that not many kpop artist can cover because of how difficult they are to sing.
