Echoing some of the previous comments; never see the black label here in Southern California, so I keep a lookout for them when travelling. Interesting review, thanks!
Love the batch vs single barrel idea! The regular OF 100 is probably my favorite regular sipper. I have a Cub Foods black label that definitively fell below the regular 100. With that said, I’ve had 2 different MN select black label bottles that are some of the best Old Forester I’ve ever put down the hatch! I think there’s some really great single barrels and some below average. It’s a roll of the dice!
In Ohio we don’t see the Black or Blue label Old Forester so can’t say I do get the Whiskey row series and the 100 bourbon and the rye. But unless I can get it I’ll stick with what I can find. 🥃🥃🥃
Not sure if you see these in your area but the one that comes to my mind, besides Evan Williams, is Elijah Craig store picks at the standard 94 proof point.
Our Club enjoys doing blind tasting instead of leaning toward one we can see and traditionally enjoy. Putting up 2 bottles that aren't in the same range is tough. BTW the Barrel Proof is at TW $65 in SC. I suggest doing a blind tasting against your choice of Old Forrester vs Early Times 100 proof Bottled and Bond 1lt $25. For 80 proof bourbon put any bling tasting against Jim Beam 7yr Black $19 TW. A year ago those 2 distillers products would be stuck on the bottom shelf. I don't know what happened but GD! also FYI Wild Turkey 101 is not the year it was. No one knows why.
I wonder if the heat cycled warehouses leads to less single barrel variation. Next time you could try Four Roses single barrel vs small batch select.. Those are close enough proof wise.
I'm at work watching this and I'm going to try this in the morning. There is no way they are that close. The Black label is my favorite bottle.
It could just be the bottle that I have...Are you filming it? If so, I'll be watching! Cheers!
@TheBourbonNote if I film it, I'll tag you in it
Sounds good!
Nice review! I picked up a black label 90 proof(45.00) pick from a local store. Never had the 100 proof black label.
I've never owned the regular shelfer but enjoy my store pick.
Thanks for thge comparison. Never see the black label around here. Now I don't need to feel like I'm missing out. OF100 for the win!🥃😎

I'll have to keep an eye out for more bottles and revisit this!
I paid $55 for my single barrel at Total Wine in Florida. Thanks for the review, will have to try myself.
Damn, i definitely overpaid 🤣
Can’t find that 100 proof SB in Los Angeles so looking forward to comparison

I definitely want to do that. I never see the 94 proof picks around here, but I could probably have one sent.
@@wolfe5244 those EC Single Barrels at 94 proof are bangers I got one here in Colorado that was 10 years 👍🏻🥃

Thanks for the info!
Interesting results. I don't see the black label in my neck of the woods. OF100 rules, always on the shelf here. Happy Thanksgiving!
Thanks, you too!
My total wine single barrel is good, nothing crazy though. I think I paid around 70.
Happy Thanksgiving Ben! The OF Single Barrel black labels I have had are much more flavorful than standard 100 Proof. 🥃
Thanks, Dave! You too!
Either you got a bad single barrel, or a trash palate! 😂
I see what you did there 😂🎉🎉🎉
@altmandillon1 😎🥃
Definitely trash palate!!!
@@TheBourbonNote 🤣🤣🤣
I would try Jack Daniel's Bonded vs Jack Daniel's Single Barrel Select both arent 100 proof but similar. SB is 94 proof ◼️🥃
Good idea!
Could always add a drop of water to proof it down

Good point! I bet that does make a difference.
I just paid $50 for a store pick black label single barrel in MN.
Where at?

Damn, I overpaid!
EHTSB vs EHTSib would be a good one.
If I could find a sb, I'd love to do that. Maybe this will be my lucky year!
@@TheBourbonNote They are available here quite often LMK
