Hunt and got: RR15, Disco 12. Grew to love: too many to list but love Rare Breed and KC12. The best I have it this year: RR15. Haven’t cracked the Disco 12 yet (maybe for New Years!) 2XO Gem of Kentucky was great too. Let down: Stagg 23B. Biggest surprise: Four Roses Single Barrel. Very good!
Ben, Great video. It would be really cool to see a Top 5 or 10 video for bottles that were purchased in Minnesota or bottles that were specific to Minnesota. I'm in Saint Paul and I'd be curious to know because my friends and I seem to have the best luck across the border in Wisconsin. Would be great to know if I'm missing out on anything here. My favorite bottle for 2024 was the Prideful Goat 6 year Cask Strength that I grabbed in Wisconsin, unfortunately.
Hunted & Got: RR15 / Coy Hill. Hunted & Did Not Get: Booker’s The Reserve. Grown to Love: still a work in progress-Ryes. Best this year: RR15 / runner up: Coy Hill. ( I got a George T Stagg 2024, but have not cracked it open) Biggest let down: Stagg 24A. Biggest surprise: New Riff Malted Rye Sherry Finished-much better than expected. 🥃
This year I have not been really hunting. I have been luck and found a couple allocated bottles but nothing I was really looking for. The bottle I've come to live is any Russell Reserve single barrel. I really love them all and am mostly drinking those. The best whiskey I've tried is the Russell's Camp Nelson C Single Rickhouse. It was not a RUclips favorite but I really love it and blinded it against a lot of Russell's bottles and it easily won. Biggest disappointment was probably the Woodford Batch Proof. I has seen a video calling that the best in years and it is ok but not worth the price. Biggest surprise of the year is Old Elk single barrel from BLO. That bottle is amazing and shocked me when it won my store pick blind.
Hunt and got: RR15 Hunt and did not get: Disco 12 Grown to love: A Single Barrel Beam (did not think I would like the Nut profile, but love it) Best One: too many to choose, sorry copping out Biggest Disappointment: Love ASMs and was so disappointed in Clermont Steep (drain pour) also Crittenden Toasted Pecan (Hyped, but 😊not for me) Biggest Surprise: Hard Truth Sweet Mash Rye (Had no expectations, but it is great)
Hunted and got : Barrell Amburana Hunted and not found : FEW x Smashing Pumpkins best bourbon of the year : not a bourbon but Scotch, Aberlour A'bunadh The whiskey you've come to love most in 2024 : Maker's Cask Strength Biggest letdown bottle : Not being able to drink since May, Peerless Double Oak as a close 2nd Biggest surprise bottle : Four Roses Small Batch Select, heard a lot of trashing on it, but it's up there with Maker's cask strength in that category too.
I am not a rye guy. Too spicy-peppery, costs more than other grains. I like the wheaters, but with no Kentucky Hug they are more for the summer for me. I like the 100 proof Coopers' Craft more than the 100 proof Old Forester, to me it is well worth the extra price and lower availability.
-Biggest score was an OBSK (thanks South Lyndale!) -Still can’t find anything RR higher aged than a 10 -Grown to love anything Woodinville -Best: Maybe a new riff high rye store pick (7/8ths in Bloomington) -Biggest disappointment: anything Sagamore. I just can’t see what the others see. -Biggest surprise: Uncle nearest 100 proofer. Did not think I would enjoy it as much as I do.
Hunted and scored. Russell’s 15/ Bookers reserve, Hunted missed MM Cellar aged, grown to love KY spirit CN-F barrel 2279, best whiskey Bookers Infinite (not opened my RR15 yet), biggest let down Elmer T Lee, biggest surprise: Russell’s Reserve 10 Ll/ME.
Totally agree on Elmer T Lee. Sounds like you scored some great bottles! I haven't had a Russell's LL/ME yet, but the the 15 year is a monster! The Little Book Infinite is a great bottle as well. Cheers!
Fun episode. My list: Looked and wanted: Russel's 15 and Maker's Mark Cellar Aged; Didn't find: EHT Barrel Proof Rye; Whiskey I've Come to Love: Old Forester Single Barrell Barrel Strength Rye; Best Whiskey this Year: Without a doubt, Russell's 15; Biggest Letdown: Green River Single Barrel; Biggest Surprise: Maker's Mark Lost Recipe.
Hunting for: coy hill. Building good relationships pays off! Hunting for and didnt get: stagg. So illusive Grown to love: ryes in general. Sagamore 9 is chef's kiss Best one I've had is a four roses barrel strength. Nose was literal cream cheese frosting. So incredible. Biggest disappointment: cedar ridge barrel proof Biggest surprise: bulleit rye 12 year
Great list idea! Looked & wanted: Jack Daniels Coy Hill/ Russell’s 15yr Didn’t get: Murray Hill Club Special Reserve and King of Kentucky ( missed it yesterday by 3 minutes) Grown to love: RY3 Madeira finished Best One: Russell’s 15yr/Coy Hill Disappointment: Calumet 16yr Surprise: Smoke Eye Hill Cask Strength Cheers!
Jack Daniel's Barrel Proof Rye is in my "will never not have a bottle on hand" tier, and if i ever get wind of them increasing the price, I'll have to bunker a dozen of them.
Hunted and got: Discovery 12. Hunted, didn't find: MM Cellar. Best of year: Discovery 12. Grown to love: Bardstown Origin line-up. Letdown: OF 1924. Surprise: WT 70th (I really love the bottle. I'm not mad that you call it a letdown but if you continue this rogue behavior.....). Cheers!
I missed a Russell's drop at the ABC by 45 minutes. I left to go home, and a buddy called me saying that it was at the store that I'd just left. Trash bin palate Ben. 😂
That's a bummer on the Russell's drop! Between the wild turkey and the old forester sb vs batch video, I'm definitely building a trash palate reputation 🤣
Unsubscribe, disappointed by the WT JR70th 😂🤣😂 the first time I tried Russell’s 15 I didn’t know what the hype was about, but I believe it was my palate at the time, went back to it later oh my. Like every whiskey list just depends on the moment. 🥃
A bottle you hunted and actually found: JD Coy Hill and Redwood Empire Haystack Needle A bottle you hunting, but didn't find: JD barrel proof rye (not available in my state) Your best bourbon of the year: Old Soul Tintype II The whiskey you've come to love most in 2024: Redwood Empire Emerald Giant cask strength Biggest letdown bottle: E.H Taylor Single Barrel (Good but not worth hunting) Biggest surprise bottle: ECBP A123 (Wish I got a back up) Best scotch of the year: Ledaig 18

Looking for the New Riff Sherry finish! I hear it’s really nice!
I'm surprised to hear the Stagg 24A was a let down. Stagg seems to be pretty solid if you can find it.
@ 24A was off profile to my trash palate. I have gone back to it 3 times. I am not saying it it bad, just not my favorite.
@@DaveVogelsang-b8vfunny, I liked 24A and didn’t really like 24B

Agreed!
Agreed!
I’ve passed on every OGD 16. Absolutely not worth that. I’d rather have a Stagg Jr. on secondary at $175-200
Yeah, the price on this was a bummer.
Cheers!
I'm definitely down a rogue path here🤣
You hunted and actually got Basil Hayden 16?? That's nice.
Well...when you put it like that! 🤣 At least it's not 80 proof like Basil Hayden!
I missed a Russell's drop at the ABC by 45 minutes. I left to go home, and a buddy called me saying that it was at the store that I'd just left. Trash bin palate Ben. 😂

How can a bourbon be “great” at $50 and be a disappointment? They’re good imo and a good value for the price. Plus it’s a special one time release.
I really liked it, but didn't think it was worth the price jump over regular 101 or the hype surrounding the bottle.
🎉🎉🎉
Cases of WT 70th were available at Costco locally. $39. You lost me when you downvoted it. It’s so much better than regular 101.
That's definitely a more appropriate price for it in my opinion.
