I lifted all the photos from different websites for this video. To me, this is the best song Michael has ever written, and it is without a doubt my favorite song of all time -- NUMBER ONE! This is called WINTER and it is from his CD JUST ANOTHER NIGHT. Michael Stanley is an amazing story teller, and this one is perfect! Just read the lyrics and you will see what I mean!
I want to say publicly, that I am forever indebted to Michael for all of his music, but especially this one! It feels like winter's comin' on... Thanks Michael!

Winter
--words and music by Michael Stanley
from "Just Another Night", 2008, LineLevel Music
I'm a man of good intentions
But that and a dime
Won't get you anything
Hardly worth your time
And I've had my share of lovers
Drove that train right off the tracks
I broke some hearts along the way
And they, broke it right back...
Seems like subtlety and nuance
Might just as well be dead
Traded for a moment
In the spotlight overhead
And those windmills I've been chasing
Well they vanish all too soon
And leave a leather jacket lunatic
Howling at the moon ... at the moon
And still I wish that this sunset was slower
Wish I knew how to right some wrongs
And I'm wondering if today
It ain't too late to pray 'cause
It feels like winter's coming on
It feels like winter's coming on ... coming on...
There's a cold wind blowing
You better change your ways
'Cause the wheel keeps turning
Till the end of days...
I'm a man who's got his secrets
And just like everyone
I hold 'em close in darkness
Don't let 'em see the sun
And I'm stumbling like a blind man
After reason after ryhme
Wandering this mortal coil
Running out of time ... out of time...
Still I wish that this sunset was slower
Wish I knew how to right some wrongs
And I'm wondering if today
It ain't too late to pray 'cause
It feels like winter's coming on
It feels like winter's coming on...
And I wish that this sunset was slower
That I could find just one more song
And I'm hoping that today
It ain't too late to pray 'cause
It feels like winter's coming on
It feels like winter's coming on ... coming on
And there's a cold wind blowing
You better change your ways
'Cause the wheel keeps turning
Till the end of days...
With this song, Michael created nine minutes of soul-stirring perfection.
I never can get enough of this incredible song.. Chills every time I hear it.. Michael is a genius..... what a masterpiece!!!
One of the most beautiful songs ever written and recorded.
Hauntingly beautiful! He was a true music genius!
Michael Stanley has left this earth. Here's perfect song for a goodbye. 3/7/21.
FOREVER DEDICATED TO MY FRIEND, MICHAEL STANLEY ARCHIVIST, DAVE WADE, WHO LEFT THIS MORTAL COIL JAN 1, 2022.......... R.I.P. DAVE
One of Michael's best ... I've known him and the band since the 70's when I worked at Kresse's Bi-Rite in Bainbridge & loaded groceries in his car for his wife .. then when I was with Northern Wind running security at Peabody's, The Agora, Blossom, etc, etc - Michael is one of the good guys -
Been listening to MSB since 1976 and now he is gone. RIP Michael.
Michael Stanley is kinda like Benny Mardones -- incredible talent, with one pretty good sized hit, but a whole catalog of GREAT stuff that got missed or ignored.
Nope, bad manager and management company screwed him bad. Look it up. He was destined till they pulled the plug. Jonah brought back the vibes and they jammed. harder than any other band in the country. Desperate to show their manager was a jerk, they produced Stagepass at the Agora. I could listen to Pierette, Taking It Back, Midwest Midnight, over and over again.
Also both from Cleveland!
Tommy Dobek on drums and Bob Pelander on piano. Two of the guys still there from the MSB "glory years". Go to Line Level Music, where you can buy all of Michael's music both new and old. Enjoy !!!
I could listen to this all day! Love it!
You just don't hear songs like this often. So powerful the way it builds. Great great song.
First time ever hearing this song. Love it!
Great song
@dontyouno Thank you! My favorite song --- period!
saw many blossom concerts before leaving for Mediterranean in 86, lonely on the waters, long way from home, till I found stage pass in the ship store. that album was a real comfort to someone who was missing the white lines in Ohio! ! thanks
Love This... Such a great talent..
Awesome song!! Love the wind sounds at the end..
Love this song....👍💯💯💯
nice job---one of my favorite songs
Rest in peace Michael
Bought my first Michael Stanley LP in 73, same year I married. "You Break It, You Bought It." We've been fans ever since. I appreciate the music sight, "It's About Music", for all the artists it showcases. Checking out all the great tunes by M. Stanley is always a treat. This song is one of those that every time you listen to it, it just gets better! Thanks for posting!!! Also "Angelina" is a great song from the CD!
love this song..... saw him in newark, ohio at the midland theater a few months back
LISTEN LOUD!!
nice pics by the way
Beautiful coda... some plaintive, far off wolf howls would have enhanced the wind whistling at the end, other than that Pure Musical Genius!!!
@AZMSFAN Thank you!
I'm curious what the three hole footsteps at the end signify?
Hi Mark.. Great question! I have NO CLUE!! It was just a nice photo I lifted to use in the video.. For me, I guess it's simply a lone walker.. We come into life and leave life alone.. The song is about regrets and "I wish I coulda done better".. I guess you can interpret it any way you like, but it was just a beautiful photo..
+mulemusic Don't knock yourself as I wasn't putting down the video, I think it was well done. The track line just seemed very odd. If it was one track I wouldn't have thought anything about it, but it is a straight track line all identical. Strange. lol
Whos the drummer. powerful and a brilliant song.
Tommy Dobeck. Been playing with MS for 40 years. He's great, but really the whole band is. Check out all of MS's cds-- they are all great!
