  • In Ayurveda Vata, pitta and Kapha dosha means imbalance in water, air, and fire elements in the body.
Vata, pitta and kapa are called as nature - prakruti. This gross body annamaya kosha acts according to prakruti.
The annamaya shareera is made of earth and water elements. There is fire already existing in the earth element. There is a fire in the wood but in a dormant state. By rubbing the pieces of wood, the fire is awakened.
When the water element in the body becomes excess it douses the fire element in the body called kapha dosha. Symptoms of these are sinus problems, lethargy, lack of appetite, heavy feeling in the stomach, weak digestion, obesity etc.
When the fire element in the body goes up and depletes the water element in the body is called a pitta dosha. Symptoms of these are ulcer, acidity, reflux, bad breath, bad odour, excessive sweating, burning sensation in the limbs, anger and irritability, constipation etc.
The air element in the body acts as a link to balance pitta and kapaha elements in the body.
Sometimes, instead of balancing water and earth elements, air takes control leading to vata dosha.
Symptoms of this are joint pain, weak circulation, muscular pain, dryness of skin, bloat gas, constipation, weight loss, dehydration, restlessness, cold, asthma etc.
Surya Mudra, pritvi mudra, jala nashaka mudra, varuna mudra, vayu mudra, and chin mudra helps in balancing the vata, pitta and kapha dosha in the body.

Amazing thank you. I love mudras and can really feel the difference between each mudra when I meditate. Amazing to finally understand about increasing and decreasing the element with the finger and thumb placement. Fascinating! Thank you so much ❤
