yeah, it also wasn't as big a focus as it became in 2013. the 2009 series weren't really a prominent thing, and they didn't even have names, just logos

I mean i like the diecast dont get me wrong but as an super chase for just tape over his mouth and an different expression? I would’ve rather had him being a normal diecast. And i mean they could’ve atleast added an worried expression. Or they just could’ve made the mater we got as an normal diecast and one with the tape mostly off his mouth as an normal chase.
There's also Lightning Mater, who is a variant of Drag Star Mater but painted in the colors of Lightning McQueen with the number 95, and is a Disney Store exclusive, being a Chase and a 1.43 scale diecast just like the latter

It does baffle me that none of the Maters from 2013 were re-released (they could still re-release Francesco Fan Mater like they did Lee Race and Miles Axlerod with open Hood) those were sort of cool releases.
The fact that Ivan Mater and Dracula mater haven't come back is really surprising to me-they can easily bring back Ivan Mater as a single. Considering several cars 2 maters have been rereleased in the past few years, I wouldn't rule it out...
What’s also surprising is that they still haven’t released Race Team Mater. It’s literally just a different expression and flames design. How hard is that supposed to be?
While watching the die cast history videos I’ve been counting how much more variants of mater I need, I think I can complete all the maters by the time I’m 80 give or take a couple years. Also I’m not sure what other maters Mattel can make for maters that appear in cars 2, they kinda completed all the maters that are important besides maters with parachute, or unless they go back for a regular mater with the guns and the cancelled inflight mater.
Yeah, there aren't too many left, but Mater with the oil sipper hat from the sumo wrestling scene has always stuck out to me as a missing variant. I'd also really love to see some regular spy mater variants, shocked we've never seen him with his rockets, or guns, or parachute. Inflight Mater would be great to see, there's also the cancelled Funny face mater
@@ttoyreviewsty I totally forgot the funny face mater, I feel like we could see that one return soon considering it wasn’t too long ago that it was cancelled. Also the mater with the big oil cans gave me Barry diesel vibes I would totally love to see that one. I was thinking maybe they could make mater tied up ropes to go along with duck tape mater but that sounds far fetched of an idea. I think for future new upcoming releases of mater they should go back to the cars toons for ideas because there’s so much untapped potential.
Not sure if this is a variant or an error but I got a three pack with Race Team Mater, WGP McQueen, Topper Deckington (or Kingpin). Mater’s eyelids were slightly lower and his bumper had no decal.
definitely an error with the bumper, and that mater uses an eyeplate, which means that sometimes the eye expressions are either lower or higher than usual depending on how the car is produced
