Thoroughly impressed with Las Cruces Police Department Police Chief Jeremy Story and his agency’s public, transparent, and direct response.
We watched the video footage of the brutal and heinous stabbing of Officer Jonah Hernandez. This was painful. With that said, knowing it was going to be released and viewed, we commend the agency for proactively being the ones to do so. They provided context and allowed the facts to be shared instead of a controlled agenda filled narrative.
First, may our brother rest easy and in peace. Our hearts were torn watching the video. Next, our hats off to the brave heroic citizens who stepped up and did the best they could, when they certainly did not have to do anything. Thank you.
Last, Chief, we wish more leadership had the humility that you demonstrated toward the end of this clip. This is indeed rare these days. Thank you.
After releasing footage of the February 11 incident to the media and community members in the city’s council chambers, Chief Story laid out a series of short-term goals for the department in the wake of Officer Hernandez’s death.
The goals include filling current vacancies, discussing new city ordinances, and establishing a real-time crime center.
