It's amazing how James can sing and play the verse at the same time live, not to mention they speed it up as usual.

Actually you'd be surprised by how easy it is compared to other metallica songs... while the riff is fast and quite technical on the harmonic side, it's actually pretty straight forward rythmically, and the vocals just follow it straight on. What makes "singing over" a riff difficult is when you have odd sincopation, weird time signatures and vocal lines that are phrased in a different way compared to the riff's rythm... That is hard as fuck

@@ultimateeditorz7754it's actually a pretty simple riff, those fast gallops were the hardest part for me. Nothing a few long days of practice can't solve!

It's not that tough, start slowly at first. I'm practicing the very same riff these days.
You know, NO ONE just picked up the damn axe for the first time and shredded. You have to build that skill.
Personally I only look at what he does because I want to check if I fret like him or it's easier to use another finger (something I often overlook) or which note is a downstroke and which an upstroke. Little details like that, but they help me play smoother and a bit more on point.

I legit don’t understand how people can play the 0-0-0 riff or just that fast in general. I only started playing guitar a year ago and Ive been practicing down-picking and alternative-picking a lot but no success unfortunately. Ive tried master of puppets, battery, disposable heroes but Its been frustrating to say the least. Anyone gone through the same experience?
