Your videos got me into bikepacking! I was looking up the King Alfred's Way when i got this notification...🔔 King Alfred's Way - Film By Barry Godin :-) Spot on timing!
@@barrygodin7538 Absolutely! I’ll be bikepacking from Swanage to Derby then onto the GNT to Cape Wrath in August. So, all this content “research” is inspiring. :)
An epic ride fella. Loved it👍 Doing the Ridgeway this summer as part of a 6 day ride from Norfolk to Weston Super Mare. These vids just inspire me. Thx
Stunning countryside, views, trails and paths!!!... Not to mention, yet another stunning video Barry!! Thank you buddy thoroughly enjoyed that one and watched while I take a break from work! Keep up the great work and glad to see no mishaps on that one!!!!
Great footage. Really enjoyed watching. Can’t wait for the next adventure. I’m Looking forwards to ticking this one off the list. Well done to Andy also, good to see you out and giving it a go. Inspiring 👍👍
A couple of pints, and no burnt cakes in sight. As already said, nice to have your content back - always a great storyteller. I need to stop working and get back out into the Scottish outdoors.... Saint. Empathise with the owl calls, I live right on the edge of a suburban area, we've got two owls that chat away all night, every night.
Just completed the KAW this last weekend across 3 days. Very hard work. Some paths swamped with overgrown nettles but an amazing route and scenery. Salisbury Plain felt very Mad Max like! Great video.
Oh well done! Yes it has become surprisingly overgrown even with so many people riding it, nature always wins :-) Nothing like the buzz of a stinging nettle to keep you going
Lovely film Barry. There is an alternative route in KAW guidebook that takes you past Stonehenge which I would recommend. Careful when crossing the A303 mind!
Yes I now have the guidebook :-) Of course after riding it, haha. I have done the turn off before on another trip, should of looked properly at the gpx route before leaving, was planning spur of the moment, haha
great video BG - like others have said, post this up on the KAW FB group its a nice community - glad the weather held out for you, i love riding around the KAW and SDW trails - ive not done the whole thing yet but will do one day! there are loads of variations on the route to take you around stonehenge and some nice pubs and cafes too :)
Hey, thanks so much! Yes there is so many detours to take ,next time will also try and go through swinley forest and make some more fun sections, this time I wanted to do it exactly to see what they had planned
I enjoyed that Barry. I’ve ridden a few sections of your route (south downs and streatham, goring to Reading). I usually do the 100+mile day rides but I’m really starting to hanker for some wild camping. I think it’s time I got myself a tent. Great film. Nice to see Andy break his distance record too. Chapeau to him. Lastly, it’s ‘Butser hill’ not Buster. I’ve hit 47mph descending it. Don’t try it if it wet😉.
Riding in and around Salisbury Plain you should check out the MOD site for military activity before you enter an area as when they are firing live ammunition you shouldn't be there. Red flags generally mean you shouldn't be there. I'm surprised you weren't stopped. Great vlog of your ride. Great camp spot at 17:00. I should imagine when it is wet the route could be a nightmare with all the mud clogging up your tyres and bike, but you didn't have any rain by the looks of it.
Hey Alex, I am very aware of the red flags, the King Alfred Way goes around these areas, not through them, so is ridable whenever, of course do not stray off the course of pick anything up :-) Yes the ridgeway and all that area is a nightmare in the wet, I have tired it, so very lucky the sun was out
Great ride Barry ! And u got some great vid footage as well nice one 👍 am doing kaw anticlockwise from win to reading so far . Was keen to save stonehenge for the end 🙂 hopefully complete in August . Don't know where you get all this bikepack energy from ! 👍🤣
Oh wow! I guess the route works perfectly well in the reverse way, it is nice to mix it up :-) Also I bet you get to meet even more people that way! Hope you get to finish it off!
That noise in the woods scared the shit out of me the first time I heard it - I was like wtf - shaking in my bivvy bag and not because of the cold! Glad to know I wasn't imaging it! King Alfred's Way looks epic - I wonder if it can be ridden on a gravel bike? Have ridden the TPT on 35C tyres, but after riding that on what is more of a road geometry it would be nice for some additional comfort. Great video as always and great to see you back on the trails!
Oh yes Richard, I am normally pretty good with sounds, but this one was so close and a new sound, and he sounded angry, haha. Oh yes gravel bike would be fine, oh course suited to some sections more than others. Also try and do it in the dry and gets very boggy and icey in the chalk in the wet
Think you may have had a mishap with the route around Stonehenge, a lot of the pictures I’ve seen on the KAW FB group show the route going right next to it?
That part is a detour. The original route doesn't go past unless you choose to. It's only 3 miles out the way and there are signs showing you how to get to Stonehenge. Next time I do it, I'm definitely making a detour
Hey James, yes I should of looked closer, I did plan this one late, I really thought it did go via it, but as others have said I think Cycling Uk recommends a detour
I was wondering the same. I live near Farnham and ride around here loads. It could be the Barley Mow at Tilford or more likely the Craft Brewery at Pierrepont Farm.
@@scotti_wan_kenobi Yes you're right, just looked up pics and its the CraftBrews place. I didn't know it was there although I ride around Tilford/Frensham quite a bit. Looks like one to try!
Great video and epic scenery. I'll be doing this route in July and this is one of the best videos on the KAW on RUclips. Thanks for sharing.
Ahhhh that is so kind of you to say, have an incredible adventure!! Your going to love it!
Throughly enjoyed that. That was a super fun day. You might even get me bikepacking again. 🙂
Buddddddy, yeah what a cracking day! I will defiantly get you back out

Competed this 3 weeks ago on my gravel bike bike packing set up, 3 days also, stinking hot… already considering doing it again next year. Great video

Wild camping all the way

17:00 camp site is Liddington Castle just above the Ridgeway.
My understanding is red flags is always a live fire day , but might be wrong . Guess Barry didn't realise he was in about a dozen army sights 🤣
Shhhh that is a secret ;-)

29 days until I start this, still trying to sort detail but can’t wait
Hey, you should of done it by now? how was your experience? maybe a little damp
Great adventure. Wanting to do the route myself. How easy is it to find wild camping spots along the route
looking at this myself over the next few weeks.

What tires did use? I'm sorry if this question was already asked and answered but I haven't seen it.
How do you charge your electronic when doing bike packing.
Hey Jeff, I use battery bricks
how did it go with the wider MTB bar, thats the only issue I hear some folks speak of.
What issue to they speak of? I have absolutely no issues with my wide bars , love them
@@barrygodin7538 good to hear. Read a bunch of folks who road it said wide bars got hung up in brush during certain sections.
