That's nice Barry!!! Love it! And great to see you've gone to Hope too - long been a fan of them and what they manufacture!! Look forward to seeing you put the bike through it's paces in future adventures!!! - And!!! - I've finally caught up with your brilliant films... at last LOL!!!! Cheers buddy
Hi Barry. Re frame bag. Rolly thing will be fine. I’ve got one now. Much better. Yes not as easy as a zip but waterproof and doesn’t seem to break. Nice setup! Im in the process of building up a Silk Road frame which is going to look really good
Looking forward to seeing that in action Barry, We saw you at Jenn ride this year and have been waiting for a film of that, do you have one coming bud?
I was worried you’d got Hunt Wheels for a moment there, bike looks great, can’t believe how stable your bags are. I bought a Trek 1120 purely to get away from waggling luggage. Love the fat 29" wheels too, can’t believe the Industry is pulling away from them
Sweet setup it took me over a year too to build my Bamboo Fatbike Parts so hard to find … lately .. you should reach out to Wren Sport and try and compare his Forks total amazing and reach out to merit gear to get some custom bags design with amazing colors to match your bike …tel your a friend of mine
Thanks so much! Yeah custom builds take so much time you have to just enjoy the process and wait, and I will say the wait was worth it! Just looked at those Wren forks, look very interesting! And also I believe a friend got a full kit by Merit gear and looks really good! I just need to decide how I want the frame bag to work, having that apidura frame bladder has really helped :-)
@@barrygodin7538 i switched out the adpidure frame bladder to better solution use a befree gravity system 3 liter bag .. it got built in filer and hose then connect the cambelbak mouth piece ..connect with magnet to handle bar .. so just arrive at river fill bag and put back in frame bag and ride and drink the free flow filter is fast no difference .. the hardest setup working on now 4 season bikepacking setup which is easy but trying to do 4 seasons with packraft and 15 days food now that hard without panniers or back back just pure bikepacking setup and have 5 liters of space after all that
Hey Niall - I started using this bar - www.amazon.co.uk/Extender-Aluminum-Handlebar-Extension-Headlights/dp/B07WM217T8/ref=sr_1_2_sspa?keywords=bike+handle+bar+extender&qid=1665918635&qu=eyJxc2MiOiIyLjcwIiwicXNhIjoiMi4xMSIsInFzcCI6IjEuMDAifQ%3D%3D&sprefix=extender+bar+%2Caps%2C79&sr=8-2-spons&psc=1 But found it slipped a bit, so moved over to a even more basic cheap bar which has been solid as a rock and this is one that my front bag harness hangs off - www.amazon.co.uk/plplaaoo-Handlebar-Extender-Extension-Multifunctional/dp/B0B2K9TJX2/ref=sr_1_102?keywords=bike+handle+bar+extender&qid=1665918608&qu=eyJxc2MiOiIyLjcwIiwicXNhIjoiMi4xMSIsInFzcCI6IjEuMDAifQ%3D%3D&sprefix=extender+bar+%2Caps%2C79&sr=8-102 Hope that helps Barry
Love the videos and really inspiring us to get out on the trails - looking forward to trying a bike packing adventure next year. I was wondering what sort of chain lube you were using given the varied conditions you might find yourself in, and do you take extra with you on a trip to avoid possible mechanicals? Thanks
Hi! Hope the backpacking prep is going well :-) I always use a dry lube and keeps the chain alot cleaner! Maybe have a watch of my BG tips series as that goes in to all these things in detail :-)
Hi Barry, does the extra space between chain and tyre, come from the fact that the boost wheel spacing was intended for 11 speed? (Different chain line) Trying to get my had round how/why the 9 speed gives you extra room? Cheers.
Hey Julian, well on my Genesis which was 135mm, I could not use a 11 speed cassette above 42, I tried 46 and not only was it tyre clearance but it just would not stay on that 46t cog. so back to 42. My friend Allen was using the box prime 9, and i believe on an 11 speed the cassette almost curves over to the spokes more to squeeze in the cassette, unlike the 9, and on top of that we are using boost from chain rings to bring the chain line over even more. But since being box 9, wow I get all my gears no issue and can finally have that 50t which I need for the weight up long climbs, yes you suffer a lot on undulating roads, but there you have to just sit and spin. Hope that helps :-)
Nice looking bike Barry. I've also been struggling with tyres. I've always used 29 x 3.0 WTB Ranger which they still make but i can't find a way of ordering them from the U.S. Especially as they keep going on back order.
Hey Mark! Yes the same with Maxxis Chronicles, they stopped making them so will need to look for alternatives in the future, I think 29x3 will become trendy again soon :-)
Oh dont worry, the rack I will use is in the next trips, have in fact ridden it with a rear rack for three long trips now and works a treat, so bring on astro season :-)
Good to hear from you Barry. Great bike. TBH, I was thinking you may go rigid...surly ogre/ECR route... I hope you will have great time together and I am awaiting new videos from you. BTW: What is you current filming gear/cameras ? All the best, Chris
Hey! Well I have been rigid for 7 years and wanted to have more fun on the bike - yes more fun than I already have haha. Filming gear at the moment has not changed much Iphone 13pro Gopro 11 DJI mavic mini 2
Hope, expensive? Not in the long run they’re not. Hi Barry, good to see you after so long. The frame looks like titanium. You didn’t say what it’s made of. It looks great whatever. I carry the same pump, great choice. Another informative video. Keep it up mate. Keep calm and carry on
The crank spider and disc carriers match your orange T-shirt. Nicely co-ordinated Barry.
Enjoy.
Haha, may of been on purpose ;-)
Nice bike Barry, great to have a new film from you too. A proper Sunday morning!!!!
Thanks Ian, yeah have been super slack in editing, plenty of adventures in the bag to get editing though :-)

Thank you so much Spiros, she is a dream build :-)
Lovely looking bike, you'll have to get the miles in now to fully utilise it. I look forward to your new adventures! 👍
Thanks Matthew - yeah there has been plenty of miles put in now, and it rides amazingly
Hi Barry. Re frame bag. Rolly thing will be fine. I’ve got one now. Much better. Yes not as easy as a zip but waterproof and doesn’t seem to break. Nice setup! Im in the process of building up a Silk Road frame which is going to look really good
Yeah still in the planning for a new frame bag, get a new zip put in the old one and still hanging on :-) You building a ti titus? looks a beauty
Nice choice ! Front suspension is the way ! Interesting groupset 👍
Thanks!!! Yeah loving having an element of comfort also means can tackle more technical trails loaded
Looking forward to seeing that in action Barry, We saw you at Jenn ride this year and have been waiting for a film of that, do you have one coming bud?
Hey Yes, I have been trying to get film finished for ages, life just and too many adventures getting in the way! I promise soon ;-)
Really impressed with how solid everything is.
Yeah and after many many miles of testing it is soooo solid! So happy with it all
Nice setup. That 9 speed clearance requirement is interesting.
Yeah I was using it too on the Genesis for the past few years, yes you miss some gears but the range is great

Haha, yes not to worry, hope hubs all the way :-) and love 29+ and the way it rides!
Gorgeous
Thanks so much! It looks the bizz
Still loving the Box gears? Definitely an option I'm looking at for my fatty/29+
Oh I love them, this is 3 years on them now and no issues at all with them, so solid!

Very nice 🙂 What is the extra bar from Amazon that you mentioned?
Hey Niall -
I started using this bar - www.amazon.co.uk/Extender-Aluminum-Handlebar-Extension-Headlights/dp/B07WM217T8/ref=sr_1_2_sspa?keywords=bike+handle+bar+extender&qid=1665918635&qu=eyJxc2MiOiIyLjcwIiwicXNhIjoiMi4xMSIsInFzcCI6IjEuMDAifQ%3D%3D&sprefix=extender+bar+%2Caps%2C79&sr=8-2-spons&psc=1
But found it slipped a bit, so moved over to a even more basic cheap bar which has been solid as a rock and this is one that my front bag harness hangs off -

Hope that helps
