The Kingdom of God and Mary

  • What is the Kingdom of God and does Mary play a part in that? Is Mary royalty, and if so, does the Bible say anything about that, in particular the Annunciation with the angel Gabriel and the Visitation with St. Elizabeth?
Also, what shadows of God's kingdom of his chosen people in the Old Testament have to show us about what is taking place with Jesus and Mary in the Gospels?
In this excerpt taken from Dr. Pitre's Bible study, Why We Believe, Dr. Pitre covers these questions and shows you why Catholics revere Mary has the Queen of the Kingdom of God, from sacred scripture itself.
If you've ever wondered why do Catholics call Mary a queen and and how it is that her identity flows out of the identity of Jesus, then check out the video above.
You can watch this video and comment at our blog at catholicproductions.com/blogs....
You can find Dr. Pitre's book on Jesus and the Jewish Roots of Mary where he covers this topic and others here: catholicproductions.com/produ...

My mum was the greatest person in my life. Her liver gave out on her & I lost her in 2014.
Being raised in a strick protestant family, Mary was not really emphasised. The Lord, in His mercy, lead me to the Catholic Church. Yet I was still troubled by what I referred to as that " Mary thing."
As I grew in my faith in the beloved Catholic Church, I finally decided I was just going to accept ALL of the Church's teachings even if I didn't understand them. Understanding would come. One night before going to sleep, I told the Lord my decision in prayer.
A few days after, I was getting out of bed and a " thought" came to me. It asked:" Do you love your mother?" I answered:" Of course I do, I adore her, she was the most important person in my life." The "thought " asked: " Don't you think Jesus would feel the same way about His mother?"
Boom! That settled it for me! Next I bought a book titled " Behold Your Mother."
Viva Cristo Rey! Hail Holy Queen!

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE... Listen to what the Lord Jesus Christ said..... If you truly have the Holy Spirit in you ma'am... Then the SPIRIT OF GOD who lives inside you is MORE THAN SUFFICIENT in guiding you unto TRUTH..... The bible could not have STRESSED the point any more strongly about how the ENEMY.. literally from Genesis chapter 3 all the way through to Revelations, where the Harlot (a false church) with MYSTERY BABYLON written upon her forehead, who rides on the back of the beast.... HAS BEEN THE ENEMY THEE WHOOLE story of the bible....... the LORD in the old testament despises the "the Queen of heaven" and very clearly commanded NOT TO! I Say this because i care, honestly ma'am... just PLEASE ask the holy Spirit if what I'm speaking to you is Truth and comes with love. Don't trust MEN..... that's what the whole bible is about..... 🥺 please. In the name of Jesus'... the ONLY INTERCESSOR between God and man.... THE ONLY WAY to come to the Father..... Dont let pride keep you from asking GOD! It's either option A: trust God in Jesus or option b: trust a pharisee/scribe/man..... PLEASE just Pray and for guidance on this one..... The path that leads to destruction is broad, and MANY enter.... but the way to Life is narrow and FEW shall find it... those are the Words of our Lord Jesus Christ...... Cotholicism has OVER 1 Billion members....... that's like 1 out of 7 of EVERY human being on the planet Earth...... that is NOT the narrow gate where "few will find".... that COULD NOT be any more clearly, the BROADEST Gate that literally has ever existed....... In Jesus' name, i mean no disrespect... but God's Word tells me that if i DONT warn others of the Truth and you die in your sin, then your blood is on my hands... and secondly and more importantly.... BECAUSE THE LORD HAS COMMANDED in revelation he said "Come out of HER my people"... in love. Amen.

Dr. Pitre mentioned in another video that the reason Protestants believe Catholics worship Mary is because Protestants believe worship to be singing and praying, listening to the sermon at their service, and Catholics pray to, sing about, and homily about Mary.
However, Catholics consider worship to be something different, namely that worship involves a sacrifice, and Catholics do not sacrifice to Mary. Dr. Pitre also mentioned in the other video that the Catholic church condemned people as heretics if they worshipped to Mary, and some heretics did this by offering the Eucharist to Mary

Wonderful understanding of the position...does anyone cover the 'protestant objection' (I think that's what it's called, or fear) of invoking the dead? For example; praying to Saints. The explanation of/answer to "why it isn't necromancy" is I guess what I'm looking for.
When Praying to Saints cones up in RCIA I will ask if I haven't found the answer by that time. Praying and attending daily mass, learning rosary. Have had sweet little miracles already. I know they are consolation and can be held back for our purification. And that devil's are deceitful. I was mormon sinner 36 yrs and had been Bible believing Christian sinner 15 yrs when this deeper part of my journey became available and appealing.
I know Christians are under attack and that the church needs prayer warriors.
Praying daily, unceasingly, in private and with fellow believers, for our families, friends, the persecuted, the addicted, victims, the tempted, the sick, burdened with grief and our loved ones gone ahead, the lost, the forgotten and the remembered and in fact the whole world..praying together for the whole 🌎... Worldwide body of Christ in like minded adoration, celebration, worship, instruction in gospel readings from the Bible, homily and music and the partaking of the Holy Eucharist.
I've learned to bend the knees, and focus, and to sit nearly still in a Pew teehee ☺ much of my issues were actually due to my lack ability to achieve self discipline.
It feels like becoming Catholic is a mature and wise way to grow up
To begin the tasks of mastering virtue, piety and education & with the help of the Holy Spirit becoming an actual saint.
What could be more beautiful? Aspiring to live in heaven as a royal citizen, learning and practicing heavenly attitudes of love and pure 😂 joy! What loftier goal could there be? 🙏With God nothing shall be impossible✨👑

    Mark 3:31-35 KJVS
[31] There came then his brethren and his mother, and, standing without, sent unto him, calling him. [32] And the multitude sat about him, and they said unto him, Behold, thy mother and thy brethren without seek for thee. [33] And he answered them, saying, Who is my mother, or my brethren? [34] And he looked round about on them which sat about him, and said, Behold my mother and my brethren! [35] For whosoever shall do the will of God, the same is my brother, and my sister, and mother.

Mary had interceded for the family that had shortage of wine at Cana. Jesus asked why her human concern should be His. The mention that his hour has not come, is to tell Mary to wait till He is made a king at calvary and after that she can intercede as Queen Mother. After the wedding at Cana, Mary never spoke again. The proclamation, INRI nailed on the top of the cross was not a coincidence but a divine plan. Jesus' word: "Woman, this is your son." is dedication of Mary as mother of humanity. She is now ready to intercede for humanity's spiritual need and not for physical need as was the case at Cana. So when His hour came, Jesus did give us a mother.

    Mary Smith... in reply.
l validate your questions, even some of us Catholics want to know the answers to your questions.
One question l will try and answer the best l can. In the Bible you probably notice as soon as the adult Jesus starts his evangelization of humanity, Mary his Mother, recedes into the background, and is not mentioned until his crucifixion. This is also when he starts to reveal himself as God.. his mother removes herself, because he is God...she knows all these things.. She gives honour, and importance to him and not herself, by not appearing.
Christ takes centre stage and must do what he was born to do. Christ created his own mother to be born through Her.
In the Acts, Mary had died by then, the Word of God was given to the Apostles...She Mary carried the Word of God in her womb... she carried the Bible in her womb...she knew what was to happen and why... because the Arch Angel announced to her and asked her would she carry God in her womb...with her free will replied "Yes" saving humanity...if she had said No, humanity would have no salvation... because Christ would be not be crucified, and no Resurrection.
It wasn't for her to spread the faith...
The Apostles mere men needed converting... man had to spread the Word of God... not Mary. God through men came to set up his Church on earth, that is connected to God in Heaven.
The Gospels hadn't all been written while Mary, was alive.
Mary was in the upper room with the Apostles on Pentecost, she became Mother of the Church that day, and was given power to spread the word of God, same as the Apostles received the same power from the Holy Spirit. Again Mary is not heard of, in the rest of the Bible, until her death.
This does not mean she did nothing.
She took second place, first place was given to the 12 men.
We in the Catholic Church realize her
    " humility" .
John the Apostle finished writing the Gospel of John... approx. around year 80AD ? Most of the New Testament was written after Mary's death... not sure on that one?
Our faith rested on 12 men. How did they spread it without a book... it was word by mouth. You see Mary, there was no Bible yet...Jesus was the living Bible. Because Jesus came to set up his Church and not the Bible... that came later. The Church means people... Christ came to reveal himself to his people, to you and l.
Today we have him in Bible form.
The Catholic Catechism came out of the Bible.
Mary His Mother, opened the way at the wedding feast in Cana, for her Son to begin his suffering...the first miracle took place. She willed his suffering...Jesus even got her permission to start his road of suffering.. she gave her approval aT that wedding and then. Jesus asked her 'are you ready for your suffering'...she suffered everything with her Son...but internally. Go to your Bible and read this event and just sit with and let the word of God speak to you, and perhaps read it again... see what the Holy Spirit is telling you.
She even helped him to get on the Cross at Calvary... She willed it... for the salvation of humanity.
What would you have done in her place?

One addition, Mary did not die! As full of grace she was not able, she was immaculate, not touched by the original sin and its consequences which is apart from others death itself. As the tradition explained, she fell asleep and was taken body and soul to heaven.

if you read from luke 52 yeah it says about "exalted the lowly" but giving it context (what he has took out) shes is giving God glory for what he 'does/has done for there people, not has done for her. She talks about rejoicing the lord in 47 and from then on talks about God. Not about her becoming a queen. The very next, luke 53 talks about feeding. If we are to take it like hes saying, are we saying the lord fed her after leaving baby jesus?
This is why i will always say, keep a bible close to you when you listen to this stuff and read all of it in context.

Yup! Im listening to both eastern and western, Catholicism/Orthodoxy to give their explanations as to why they accept and obey they're teachings outside of Holy writ. This is definitely the hardest subject to grasp. Im reading the three treatises that St. John of Damascus wrote back in the 700's about iconoclasm and I'm having a hard time with big questions still left unanswered. I am at a crossroads right now. I can't bare the thought of praying to anyone else besides the Father in Jesus name. Even if I was to become Catholic, for reasons that I'm sure are understood; and I could never trust my children to be alone with anyone, but especially not a Roman Catholic priest. There are so, so, so, so many cases of cover up, scandal and sexual abuse that I believe Roman Catholics today are not aware of, or just choose to ignore. So, it makes it extremely difficult for someone who is seeking the truth to find it. I see truth and falsity in every Christian sect today. But it's hard to trust corruption to dispatch purity.😒

@Patz13 Thanks for the response, I am leaning more towards the Orthodox Churches and their liturgy. I'm still studying both, but Orthodoxy seems to be more in line with the more ancient and original practice of the faith. Really what im stuck on now is whether or not the bishop in Rome has supremacy over all the churches, or if it was a place of honor among equals that was taken to a higher level then what should be.
As far as the word, "pray" is defined, I agree it does mean petition. I also agree that we can ask somebody to pray for us, but what I've not had answered adequately is where the belief that the soul (which has been separated from the body) can hear and pray for those here on earth. This is a difficult concept for someone coming from my background.
As for the priest thing... from 1990 to 2018, it was reported that about 4.2% of priests had sexually abused children under the age of 16. Now that is a small percentage of priests, but I still have a hard time trusting anybody alone with my children; but I especially would have a hard time leaving them alone in the care of a priest. So, could I become catholic? Yes. Would it be difficult? Oh yeah! Its because of my own family history though.
Either way, bless you and thanks for your response and keep my family in prayer. Happy New Year.

This has been the case of Isreal history, when they go astray - God will sent prophets to call them to repentance and if they do not heed, God would punish and destroy them, ultimately setting them straight.
So if what Catholics did was a grevious offence before God, then God would've surely sent prophets to set us straight and if we did not heed, God would've punished and destroyed us way back as we are leading people astray.

      @Andrê Visser
There are several reasons Jesus called his mother "woman", but NONE of them is the reason you gave. For one, in the Aramaic and Greek, "woman" is not showing disrespect, but the opposite, it is polite. Secondly, Jesus was indicating that although Mary was his mother, his Messianic mission came first above family ties. Thirdly, Jesus called other females "woman" also, not just his mother, so this reason alone nullifies your reason. Additionally, many scholars connect Jesus’ usage of the word “woman” to the first “woman,” Eve. In Genesis God says to the serpent, “I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your seed and her seed; he shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise his heel” (Genesis 3:15).

    • @briannwaokolo9445

Well, it is called "Typology", and the earliest christians used this to understand the various indicators in the old testament which pointed to the Kingdom of Christ as fulfilled in the new. I would recommend you read 2 Samuel 7 (verse 16 in particular) concerning God's promise to David of an everlasting Kingdom. Christ is the fulfillment of this promise to David, and it is therefore easy to see why there are many pointers in the old testament being fulfilled in the new. There is a lot of material on this, should you be willing to research.
With regards to the "Queen of heaven" referred to in jeremiah, you know this was in reference to a specific goddess who was WORSHIPPED at the time. Mary is NOT WORSHIPPED, but rightfully HONOURED by the Church and that title regarding some entity which was worshipped in the past does not refer to our use of the title within the church ...for e.g the title morning star has been used to address lucifer, and was also used in the book of Revelations for a very different purpose

Wynn Morris ...I really don’t know why Catholics would want to have Mary associated with Ishtar, the Queen of Heaven. Ishtar was the fertility goddess of Babylon & she was also married to Baal. That should be enough to want to disassociate Mary with Ishtar! But the ancient pictures of Ishtar, holding a child, very reminiscent of Mary as well, & each time the people light candles to Mary/Ishtar, it’s worship...idolatry. Even praying to Mary gives her attributes that only belong to God. Only God is omnipresent, omnipotent, & omniscient. Only God can hear & answer prayers of millions of people, all at the same time. Mary, nor the saints are omnipotent, omnipresent, nor omniscient. In fact, the Bible explicitly tells us NOT to speak to the dead! It’s no wonder that Ishtar Queen of Heaven is overlooked here!

Dilip Mathangi ...so where did you come up with that?? Certainly NOT from me! So I hope you are not putting words in my mouth that I haven’t said. I of course believe that we are to honor Mary! Mary as the mother of Jesus needed a Savior, as we do. Mary said “my spirit has rejoiced in God my Savior.” But she is not elevated to a place that is not Scriptural. Where does the Bible say that she rose into heaven? It doesn’t...& in fact, this doesn’t even become doctrine until 1950! Where does the Bible say that Mary sits at the right hand of God in heaven? It doesn’t. Where does it say that we are to pray to her? It doesn’t. Where does it say that she was immaculately conceived? It doesn’t. There are too many blasphemous statements about Mary that completely contradict Scripture that Catholics just believe without questioning! I don’t understand why the people in the Catholic Church don’t rise up & say “WHERE DOES THIS COME FROM?” If it doesn’t come from the Bible it comes from sinful man. This is absolutely wrong. Please read the Bible for yourself & make an informed decision based on the only Truth ever written.

@ Salima Lall It is hard to tell if you are trolling this video or looking for real answers. The understanding of oneness in the relationship of the Trinity; merged with an understanding of the Hypostatic Union between the Divine and human nature of Jesus; can be hard to comprehend; confusing to the outsider; and the object of ridicule or incoherent conclusions by those wishing to comment without trying to understand. As for Mary as the Queen; not all Queenships are the result of marriage to the King. Queenship can also be a relational office held in the structure of Authority to carry out a purpose. Try not to read too much into our modern understanding of 'king' and 'queen' which is often based on childhood fairytales.

Read all of what happens in 1 Kings 2. The queen mother does not turn out to be a very effective intercessor! Gets the guy killed, the request is not granted, so I don't see how this is a logical illustration of the point!

I wanna start by saying I am not anticatholic but philocatholic. I have big admiration and respect for catholics.
Now let me disagree and suggest something:
I dont think the queen mother is the very norm. Take the example of Jezabel she was queen mother when Ozias was king and Joram too. But was she queen because she was their mother or because she was the wife of Acab. Surely she was queen when she was married to Acab. I do not remember the mother of Acab being the queen. (Correct me if I am wrong)
One could say Jesus was no wife, then we go by the rule of the queen mother. I would say no so fast. He is married to the church and in Revelation 20: 4-6 we have members of the church who will be co-rulers with christ.
I think even from a catholic perspective you could argue like that and back up the authority of your bishops and leadership, the rule. Not only they bind and rule because they were metaphisically ordained by Christ to do so but also legal co-rulers with christ by their marriage with him

You are confusing the King of Israel and the King of Judah. The King of Judah was seen as the true successor of David, and this is why their mothers are mentioned. The mothers are not mentioned for the Kings of Israel (kings over the northern ten tribes).

What I am understading is that you are saying the mothers of the kingdom of the south are mentioned but the northern? I dont get it. Ozias was king of Judah and what I said that her mom was the queen mom because she had been the wife of Acab not because she was the mom of Ozias. (Im sorry I dont know how you name those caracthers in english.

Are you reading a king James version??
    "Hail, O favored one"???
    That's what's in KING JAMES Protestant bible's.
Though you read 'Full of Grace', catholic version.
Why not just get a catholic bible.
Or douay Rheims, is best translation for Catholics.

KJB is good to use, when refuting Protestants. For example, where it says "Hail highly favored one", and DRV says "Hail full of grace": both English phrases are from the same greek word kecharitomene, which means she was completely favored/graced at some point in the past, hence she is sinless.
That way, they can't resort to saying "Well, that CATHOLIC Bible you're using is wrong!"

@@505Mani Yeah, Jeremiah tells about pagans worshiping a false god. Now, the Hebrew word for 'queen' he uses in these passages is 'meleketh', whereas when the queen of Israel is spoken of, the word 'gebirah' is used, meaning 'great lady' or 'queen mother' (since the queen of Israel was always the mother of the king, not a wife). Jeremiah's 'queen of heaven' always means the pagan false god.
In the OT, the kingdom of Israel was aka the kingdom of the LORD, and in the NT, the restored kingdom of Israel (it was divided circa 700 BC) is called the kingdom of God and kingdom of heaven. So, since Jesus is the King of that kingdom, Mary is indeed the queen of heaven.

This young girl was hand picked by Almighty GOD. She has a very unique relationship with The Most Holy Trinity. She is a daughter of The Father. She is the spouse of The Holy Spirit. She is the Mother of the second person Jesus Christ. We have to pray for our heretic Protestant brothers and sisters who deny the truths of The Church. They disrespect Jesus’ mother. How can anyone call themselves a Christian and disrespect her? She is Christ’s mother. Jesus adores her! Jesus marvel after her. GOD is not a hypocrite. One of his Commandments is “ Honor your father and your mother.” Jesus honored his mother during his human life, and he honors her now. She has a very unique relationship with The The Most Holy Trinity. We need to pray for our heretical Protestant brothers and sisters. “They do not know what they do.” Sound familiar? Our Blessed Mother is the new Ark of the Covenant, and she is the tabernacle. That is powerful!!!!
