    My grandma taught me a trick with the peanut butter 50 years ago. She would spoon a few smaller jars into a pot and melt it, then stir in a bunch of bird seed and sunflower seeds then pour all of that into a old coffee can that was split open in halves and little wooden rails that covered the sharp edges for the birds to perch. She left it out in winter for the "critters" as she called them. It was a big hit of course.

    • @wayne00k
      @wayne00k 4 месяца назад +13

      I do similar. I make a mix of songbird feed with unsweetened peanut butter and shovel it into two small cat food tins stacked one over the other. beneath is an old aluminum gutter nail tapped into the trunk to serve as a perch... this gives the birds a better chance before they are cleaned out by the squirrels and such.
      Important note is it is best to use unsweetened peanut butter because many brands use synthetic sugars that can make many critters quite ill.

    I have a tree 10/12 away from my 3rd floor balcony, I took a spoonful of peanut butter and snapped it onto the tree for the squirrels, they loved it, but when I tossed a spoonful it landed on the squirrels back, right behind his head, it was hilarious watching look for the smell, but then I felt bad.

    We did this one time. The small birds come up and get a big mouthful of peanut butter. It tastes so good then they fly off and die! You must mix the peanut butter with shortening. Otherwise it glues their beaks shut and they can’t eat or breathe and die.

      @@TheOutdoorTheater ADD A WARNING AT THE START.......Dogs can eat - and many really enjoy - peanut butter. But beware, some peanut butter brands contain an ingredient called xylitol, which is toxic to dogs and even eating small amounts can be fatal. Xylitol is an artificial sweetener that is often used in foods to keep the product sugar-free.
