Me to, Wembley was brilliant.
Gary Numan has just been so underrated his entire career. Every time I say I am a Gary Numan fan everyone always says oh you like that song cars. And I'm like he is so much more than just that song but yes I do like that song cars but he has so much wonderful and amazing music that I can't believe people are stuck on just cars. Rock on Gary Rock on.

I had the 45 record, and on the "B" side was Metal. I listened to Metal more than Cars. Sorry but Cars is ok, he is so much more than Cars. I admit, I lost touch with his music for years, but re "found" him with Here in the Black. I still don't know all of his music. This here song sure hit home for me. I have so many regrets of what I didn't do. Mow I'm old, fat, out of shape, lost 1/2 my family. Life passed me by, it's my fault. Boo hoo....
This man's entire career is the pure definition of what EPIC means.
With his use of dense synth undertones, complex rhythms and always a strong melodic lyric, Gary just gets better with age. He is truly unique.

but bowie did get better as he got older after that period in the mid-late 80s where he became mediocre for a bit. NIN hasn't lost their edge and they love gary numan. there's only a few who get better as they get older. gary is one of those few.

Those dark electronic sounds at the beginning are fantastic, very Depeche Mode-like. I love how the song is slowly building up until the end.

I was grooving to my vinyl copies of The Pleasure Principle, Telekon, and Replicas on my portable record player yesterday. As a bonus I played Metal back to back with the awesome Nin cover I have in Ectoplasm green vinyl too!

I hope the album mix is longer because I literally want this song to never end.
I was first introduced to Gary Numan when I worked in NYC in 1978. The rock station played Cars and Are Friends Electric and I was blown away. Was lucky to see him and Tubeway Army in NY as well. Funny note--I came straight from work to the show and was the only one in the audience I could see was wearing a suit. Have followed him ever since and have all of his music. Saw him in Dallas several years ago and he has only improved over time. My absolute favorite musical artist.

Gonna have to disagree. The last album was amazing. I listened to My Name is Ruin on repeat when it first came out.
@@RobbBlak He's evolved so much it's difficult for me to compare. I do agree it had been awhile since he'd topped Telekon, but honestly I think he did that with Dead Son Rising, and has been doing that with each album since.
Some of his recent work has been more NIN than NIN, and I doubt Trent would disagree too hard.
What about Hybrid ?
@@charliecemoi4742 Hybrid suffers from the fact that most of its tracks are remixes and reworks. Damn good reworks in some cases, but after 3 years since Pure we were kind of hoping for an album composed of new material, which we ended up not getting until 3 years after Hybrid, and that was Jagged (not Numan's best post-Machine + Soul work).
Don't misunderstand me, I love Hybrid. I just don't know that I'd put it in the same league as Telekon.
This song deserves to be a massive hit.

Just gets better every time
First time I heard his music was back in 1981 at boarding school in Zimbabwe, introduced to me by british fellow scholars who had at the time immigrated. It was Tubeway Army with "Replicas" and "The Pleasure Principle" on music cassettes.
Since then I continued to follow his music and have most of his CD's. I'm a true fan, I enjoy his music, voice and personality. Waiting impatiently for his latest CD to be officially released.

This song is placed right before Intruder on the album and I can see clearly why. The soundscape and the lyrics blend/matches very wel with Intruder. It's a superb, somehow more introvert song to anticipate the fantastic extravert song Intruder. Big thumbs up for this art!
