With Sony's subpar communication in the months leading up the PS5 launch regarding backwards compatibility I wanted to experiment with putting a PS4 disc in the system. SPOILER: It worked great!

Exactly that pre installed game + new controller was amazing, It felt so cool .
It Took 3 Minutes And 28 Seconds Only To Do This.

You need to transfer all your data from your ps4 to your ps5 before putting a disc

If only I could get a ps5 at such a reasonable price, damn the prices keep getting higher. The lowest I could see rn is $1000 bundled with 5 last gen games and a controller. Glad that sony started having backwards compatibility now

I just registered with PlayStation with my psn, 2 days later they sent me an email telling me to have my payment details ready and my address on a specific day during a specific time period, just ordered the ps5 for retail price directly from PlayStation. I thought I would have to wait way longer tbh.
Just buy it from Sony?? That's what I did, paid retail for it and I didn't have to worry about being scammed.

Dunno why you would see discs as random trash.
Seeing how fast the disc installed partially and playable to your PS5 there. You'd need a pretty fast connection match some of the PS4 game install speeds.
Also ps5 has a faster drive rating than ps4

That's the way companies like Sony and Microsoft want you to see discs so they can sell more digital copies that just lend you a licensee of a game. That way you can't do things like install the first version of cyberpunk by disconnecting the internet to see the game's broken state it was in at release, that's also why newer cod games make it so you have to connect to the internet to play their games, so you can't see the beta levels of quality that they released the game in years ago. I know this because I played cod ww2 at launch with the all the bugs it had and I went back to see the state of these games before patches to have a good laugh and it required an internet connection to play cod ww2 even in offline play because I didn't get it patched to the latest like activision wanted me to.

I just tried my ps4 Minecraft disc, it work.. Also made a noise when I Inserted it (upload) but eventually goes away when playing... Thanks alot... Wasn't sure if it would work, but it did..

Do the graphics get improved even if it's on disk or does that only work with digital games?
Disc or digital doesn't matter -- it's whether or not the game has some kind of PS5 patch. God of War, Days Gone, and many others have PS5 patches. What I have seen though is that even games without a PS5 patch still load faster because of the SSD.

Yup! They've really sped up all the back end stuff going on. Full PSN store integration to the UI is huge.

@@Clarkarific Wow! I've been playing since I was a baby in the early 2000's, couldn't agree more. My wallet is a little dry at the moment after this recent ps5 purchase, so my first few games will be Warzone and Fortnite. They also don't require the PS Pass to play online, which makes it all the more better. I just wish they kept free online play like in the PS2 and PS3

Can anyone tell me how it works when you put in a PS4 disc that has a free upgrade to the PS5 version?
Does the console let you choose which version is installed? Or will the PS4 version be automatically downloaded, you download the upgrade on top and delete the PS4 version?
I'd be curious to understand this too. I suspect the PS4 version would be natively installed and then the upgrade is accessed via the store. Great question.
@Xerosch....it gives you a choice on the menu screen to play either the PS4 or PS5 version of the game. I don't know why anyone would play the PS4 version on the PS5 if you have the PS5 version...but it gives you the choice anyway! Lol

@@iwillwatchyourbacknooneels7850 I don't know of any situation where you pay to play a PS4 disc in your PS5. All the notable titles I can think of that have a PS5 patch which improves graphics, performance, etc, do so for free. That said, nothing stops a company from charging for that. You'd have to google whatever specific game you're considering to find out if there's a patch and if you need to pay or not.

I have a big problem with that every time I start my cod mw(ps4) disc game I have to copy 27 GB what is the purpose of a faster console when I have to wait 16 mins every time I start my game
I'm not a COD guy but I know I've heard that the full package for COD:MW is literally larger than the PS5's SSD. Maybe that's part of it?

I don’t even think that Valhalla is better than odyssey. It is so underrated man.. seriously I don’t know why. If it’s not assassins creed than it is something better. What’s bad about it? Because you just don’t kill people around to find one killer? Like a mercenary has a life story which is interesting aswell

FWIW, the disc drive on mine is obnoxiously loud. Thankfully, it doesn't seem to read the disc that frequently and I game with a headset on.
So physical copies work as well? Pretty dope 😍

@@lukavojinovic7246 Depends on the game. From my understanding, most will benefit from load time improvements due to the PS5's SSD. However, certain titles have PS5 optimization patches that significantly improve visuals and framerate (Ghost of Tsushima is a great example), while others essentially are unchanged (Bloodborne).
@@lukavojinovic7246 games default to the PS4 pro version. If the game had an uncapped framerate above 30 fps on PS4 pro, PS5 will max it out to 60

What do you mean? Some PS4 games have PS5 enhancements but it depends on the game.

@@MonkeyGod14 If the disc is a PS4 disc, it has PS4 graphics. However, some games will run better but not necessarily look better. Others have patches that will download improved graphics. Again, it depends on the game.

My call of duty modern warfare disk for ps4 doesn’t want to install it keep shooting a problem smh but the game is scratched idk if that can be the reason

That is so awesome! I'm fortunate to have been able to enjoy the PS4 fairly thoroughly, only missing a couple of big titles. However, so many PS4 games now have PS5 performance improvements that will make the gameplay experience the best possible. TLoU2 and GoW were amazing -- hard to think of them being even better!

I really enjoyed the 3 hours I played but even on PS5, the bugs were annoying. It isn't like I'm at a lack of games to play so I stopped to wait for the patched PS5 native version. Only question I have is if the 1 PS4 bronze trophy I got will haunt me forever on its own trophy list....

When I inserted a brand new RDR2 disk that I have not played on my ps4 into my ps5 it just kept saying to insert play disc any idea why?
RDR2 comes with two discs, right? A data disc and a play disc. You probably need to switch to the play disc.
