Anyone else feel these FF pickups are just on hype? 10 years ago everyone started hyping Bareknuckle pickups and manufactures started installing them on their better guitars. Now it seems to be Fishman's turn.

I kind of feel the same way about Fishman. Cant say the same for Bare Knuckle - they are amazing, I had Aftermath, Warpig, Nailbomb, Brute Force, they were all great.

Have you tried them? If you're not a fan of the FFs sound that's absolutely fine, what sounds good or bad is completely subjective to the individual. Personally love my guitar with FFs in them, n I'm considering changing out the emgs in my other guitar for the FFs, to me they're more versatile with the multivoicing n they also have more punch n clarity than the emgs. The difference isn't super drastic or anything but its noticeable enough that its really making me consider swapping them out.

@@deathmetalglenn I tried the black EC-1000s and the moderns didnt really seem that special. More "fizzy" sounding than EMG 81. I have two EC-1000T that came with FF Open Core Classic but swapped them to EMG 57/66 which sound better in my opinion. Plus I dont need all this multivoicing push-pull stuff. One of their push-pull potentiometers was even broken right from the beginning in my EC-1000T lol

I first got a guitar with Fishmans about a year ago. I have 2 guitars with them now. But honestly, I love pretty much all pickups! Seymour Duncan makes some KILLER passive pickups! And I think the Blackout, is better then EMG 81/85. They are all different, but I cant sit here and say, one is the best, over the others. I love them all! I have a guitar with DMT passive, and they are great to! I hate the general attitude people have, THIS IS BETTER THEN THAT! No, this is different then that.

I got two fishmans moderns in my two ltd ecs with a floyd. And i got a lot of Low frequencies, probably because of the wood. Mahogany neck, body and rosewood fretboard. I had to adjust the bass knob while setting my amp. I got this growl and bite with that kind of wood, sounds big. I guess. Im sure that helps as well setting the guitar a 12-60 daddario strings in C# standard tunning to give it more tension in a LP scale.

All the LTDs I’ve had all have neck finish problems from frets to cracks in the finish, to improper filing and levelling, it’s meant to be a cheap alternative to the ESP standard, but in Australia (idk anywhere else) 2.3-2.6k is a fair price for a mid ranged guitar, I have 2 fenders and a Gibson at similar pricing and they have yet to give me any problems, the LTDs I had, I’ve had to get refretted as the frets were filed down too far and caused the e string to skip off the fret board, I’ve had wiring problems and fretboard damage with the other 2 various screwing problems with the back covers, but only recently have I gotten my hand on a ESP USA custom, and it is mind blowingly good, tiny details were clearly looked after just as well as the rest of the guitar, and the balance of the guitar is magnificent usually staying put at just the right angle to rest on my hip, honestly, if anyone is considering buying a esp and you want to go for a Ltd because of your budget, either save up or buy a Ibanez, LTDs are utterly disappointing

It depends on what amp and speaker you pair the pickups with. If I tell you Fishmans, and you plug into a Marshall, you'll say to yourself "What the fuck is this guy smoking, this doesn't sound good". It's about the whole picture. An amp isn't going to sound good because the guitar or pickups are expensive. An amp will sound good when the tone profile coming into the preamp is complimentary to the tone being sent to the speaker, it's important that your amp and pickups mesh well with your choice of speaker. Think of it like a math equation... Fishmans (bright) + Marshall amp (bright) + V30 (bright) speakers = an overwhelming top end. Fishmans pickups + Rectifier (dark, low end heavy tone profile) + DV77 (gives great low end and low mid response) = thick chunky goodness.

It basically mangled the shit out of the screw posts. Tonepros makes good ToM bridges but the metal is fairly soft and will get chewed up easily if you do what I did. What is the radius of that Tone Pros bridge? Most guitars with a tune-o-matic type bridge, or a Floyd bridge - i.e. any bridge type with a fixed radius - the radius is always tighter than what the neck is, because the bridge is not specially made for the guitar being built. Charvel e.g. makes a 16" neck and everyone oohs and ahs about it, but they use an un-shimmed Floyd Rose which is 10". Terrible action on those. WTF is the point of making a 16" neck? Ibanez Artcores have a 12" neck but the bridge they use is more like a 9.5" radius. On all these guitars therefore the G string will be 1/64" higher than the outer strings.
