Best review I've seen! I managed to get my 2020 Rav4 Edge for $49,850, with rubber floor mats, bonnet protector, headlamp covers, wind shields and a full tank of fuel.
Loved everything about it, when I test drove it. Now on order and just waiting for it to arrive.

. . . that is a really good price - on carsales.com.au a WA dealer is offering a 2019 model Edge Auto AWD with 14,268km's for $51,950 - there must be deals out there then to be had for a new one.

I bought mine 2020 RAV4 Hybrid Cruiser efour for $49k drive away with Rubber floor mats, side steps, roof rack and a full tank of fuel. Single tank lasted 920km on E10. 30% highway 70% city drive.

Nice review Tom. No mention of the big reason to choose Edge over Hybrid - Dynamic Torque Vectoring AWD. Can shuffle torque left to right as well as front to rear. Makes for a nice drive through twisty mountain roads for an SUV. Also, the beeping on the power tailgate can be volume adjusted through settings in the dash, or can be switched from continuous beeping to single beep when opening/closing by the dealer as part of the customisable settings for the car. Just need to ask the dealer to do it.

In the US it's called the Adventure. Here in Canada it's called Toyota Trail as the name "Edge" in North America is taken by the Ford Edge which is also assembled here in Canada (Oakville, Ontario).

$56K ?.. Wow that's a lot of money for a 1705 kg motorised pram. Why soooo heavy? Is it bigger than it looks?
Lack of Hybrid is puzzling, maybe it just makes it too expensive with the Oz Peso now or the last one didn't sell well?

Not sure why they do space savers for cars with a little bit of off road ability, aimed at a city market maybe? Not keen driving home 300-500km on a weekend on a space saver when tyres are not available easily. That's probably why Subaru and other brands sell well.

we took one of these for a test drive and were quite disappointed after setting our hearts on one. we then took the cruiser hydrid for a test drive and found it much better and pick it up from the dealer today. we had to add quite a few accessories to make it look as nice as the edge. (the edge front grill looks great , so a nudge bar was needed on the cruiser). the hybrid just drove so much better in our opinion and was far quieter.

I didn’t want a Hybrid either when I went to purchase the Edge. Then I got curious before placing my order so asked to test drive the Hybrid Cruiser AWD. It drove much much better and I quickly changed my mind and ordered the Cruiser over the Edge. In the end, people don’t buy a RAV4 for proper off road driving and so the added features the Edge gives are pointless. Eventually all Toyota’s will be fully electric anyway according to the managing director at the dealership I went to. He said they rarely sell the Edge these days as everyone wants the Hybrid. Was nice to see his honesty as he would’ve made more money off me if I purchased an Edge.

Seeing Tom has not replied, I'll do my best attempt at "channeling" his response. The Cruiser Hybrid is the superior package for 95% of people, it's cheaper with significantly better economy and marginally better performance. The four reasons people may buy the Edge instead are:
      1) They don't like/want/trust hybrid technology.
      2) They don't like/want/trust cvts.
      3) The Edge would be better off road, still a soft roader but slightly more capable with toque vectoring and the ability to transfer engine power to the rear.
      4) They just want the top of the range model or love the particular packaging and want that trim regardless of engines.

    • @borgie83
      @borgie83 3 года назад

@@damo5701 very well said and it’s very similar to what the sales guy said to me when I was enquiring about the Edge. I ended up buying the Cruiser instead due to the Hybrid Cruiser driving much better than the Non Hybrid Edge. He said that nostalgia for petrol only cars gets the better of a small minority of people but that they might as well suck it up and get the Hybrid as Toyota’s future goal was to manufacture all their cars within 20-25 years as Electric only.

I blame Sean Hanley (Toyota Vice President Sales and Marketing) for the disastrous decision to hold off on the Rav4 Prime in Australia to what he thinks will be low sales. He instead pushes other stock. I know European areas have far more advanced emission controls than here in coal laden Australia and people are being forced more or less to purchase hybrids, Phevs and Bevs. However, I believe the Rav4 Prime would sell here, regardless of the governments climate change denial.
He is obviously out of his depth in knowing what Australians want, or he is just dogeza-gaikō to the Japanese, which means Kowtowing.
